Pending / [Discussion] CTF weapon layouts are really outdated
« on: November 07, 2020, 04:38:44 PM »
Hi I’ve been trying and failing thanks to ccbm/hale to get more people into Vanilla after the weapon and time-to-kill updates so let’s talk about CTF
Originally I was just going to put in a post saying something like “hey there’s only 2 maps with MM9 weapons and 1 map with a v6 weapon what the fuck you guys are mad lazy  :ugeek:” but I think turning it into a discussion on which new weapons to bring forward, rather than just adding them for the sake of it, would be more healthy for the game mode’s balance.

Remember that swapping out any sort of weapon or adjusting balance for these maps has what I’d define as a three-pronged effect on the gameplay:
-   Changes how easy it is to catch someone running with a flag (buffs to this are generally good if not obnoxiously overtuned eg homing weapons)
-   Changes how easy it is to run with the flag and get past people trying to get in your way (also a good thing, I would think)
-   Changes how easy it is to defend your flag, or defend someone holding the other team’s flag (buffs to this are generally bad? Or at least when I played stalling was an issue).

The main issue is that, likely only because of the timeframe in which they were made, dang near all of these maps rely HEAVILY on v1 weapons and v1 weapons alone. Whilst they have been updated with MM7, 8 and in some cases &B weapons they are far less prevalent, and don’t go far beyond adding Water Balloon to every map where it’ll fit. This tilts the balance more in favour of the last point on the list, solely because so many v1 weapons are extremely slow travelling. For example, if you look at the totals for long range weapons, the most prolific options are Gemini Laser (9/25 maps) at an incredible 22 speed, Thunder Beam (8/25 maps) at 30 speed and Gyro Attack (8/25 maps) which is 35 speed and also is prone to splitting in two. By contrast, Laser Trident only shows up on a single map and quite possibly the smallest one on offer, MMCTF25.
I don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion to say that slower weapons favour defensive play by design, it’s much easier to hold a corridor with a bunch of lingering rippers or bouncing lasers than a weapon that requires precise aim and face to face confrontation. Likewise it’s much harder to catch someone on the run when your lightning bolts barely travel any faster than your player character does, and obviously don’t adjust their trajectory beyond the point at which you first fired them.

Here’s the totals for each type of weapon, there might be some inaccuracies if I just straight up didn’t spot a weapon but I tried my best lol

Anyway please let me know what newer weapons you think would be good to bring into CTF. Maybe drop into a CTF or FOOTBAWL server sometime

Skins & Bots etc / [HUD] Maestro Buster
« on: June 18, 2017, 05:54:43 PM »
Are you one of those dumb people that gets upset when you can't see your feet in video games
or when you realise Heavy's minigun is way shorter on the HUD than in reality and also he fires out his face

I don't know where this is going but if you like cinematic accuracy you might enjoy this HUD that syncs up the base skin's buster with the HUD of vanilla weapons
Maestro Buster
In-game screenshots
(click to show/hide)

Wow cool Maestro art that really looks like the buster I just saw
who drew it I did
(click to show/hide)

Instructions for dumb nerds that don't understand PK3s
- Open both MM8BDM's current version (v5b right now) and maestrohud
- Navigate to sprites/weapons/buster/megabuster-hands
replace BUSTB0 , BUSTC0 , BUSTD0 with sprites included in sprites/
delete originals
- Navigate to sprites/weapons/mm2/timestopper
replace FLASD0.png up to FLASHL0.png with sprites included in sprites/
delete originals
- Navigate to sprites/weapons/mm8/megaball
replace MBALQ0.png , MBALR0.png with sprites included in sprites
delete originals

Credits for cool nerds
ProjectHazoid did the original sketch, and both he and Sonicfam translated it into the base 3 sprites for 99% of weapons. It was originally made for classes! But I thought it was sooooo cool I just had to make it my vanilla HUD too
Yours truly did all the lame recolouring offsets etc and made the really bad dildo timestopper frames

Warnings for both types of nerds
- Obviously this will get reset when a new 8bdm version comes out you'll have to mod that PK3 too
- This will probably fuck up Mega Man in classes / some copyweps but if you don't mind an inconsistent buster on the rare occasions you play copyweps then no big deal

If you still aren't sold here are some dumb shitposts I made

Here is a skin of me so that I can play as myself when I'm stomping around with Hyper Storm H or just playing deathmatch I guess (ew)

Features
- Huge dragonness
- Over 2 times the size of HSH
- Bigger than Yellow Devil
- Rather fat
- STRIPED SOCKS
- Use it as a skin for Hyper Storm H with the Maxine-C skin (or just let me use it and you can use base)
- Download it if you want to see me as me otherwise don't

lots of effort went into this stupid thing so if you download it and let me be me that would be kind of nice and swell if you dont want to i understand i'll be piggy either way

Projects & Creative / [Game Mode] TEAM Sneaking (Final Release)
« on: February 27, 2015, 05:10:24 PM »

That's Tactical Espionage Action Mode Sneaking for all you acronym nerds

Screenshots:
(click to show/hide)

Instructions for hosting:
- Host in Team LMS
- Maximum teams should be 2
- Can be hosted with map packs, but not other game modes or classes
- Music is included and can't be changed
- Included maps are TSNECC, TSNEUU, TSNEGG

Instructions for the Dr. Light Team:
- Choose your weaponry at the start of the round, with a generous delay before the match begins.
- Play as if you would in a normal Team LMS game!
- Locate enemies by the sounds of their footsteps or weaponry, or by seeing the marks they leave behind when walking. Bear in mind that your team makes noises too!
- Co-ordinate with your team and chase located Wily members to keep the alert counter going. Enemies are revealed when the counter is up.
- Shoot Wily Team Stun Mines to disarm them.
- Dead Dr. Wily Team members will drop ammo.

Instructions for the Dr. Wily Team:
- Pick a support weapon at the start of the round, including Flashbangs, Smoke Grenades, Chaff Grenades, Stun Mines, Shield Units and Ninja Rope.
- Sneak up on the Dr. Light Team and use your knife to instantly murder them.
- Use your Stun Gun to temporarily stop the other team's movements on a hit. Ammo is limited, enemies drop more if you catch them.
- Flashbangs blind enemies but provide no obstruction to movement. They can explode on contact and have the largest range.
- Smoke Grenades will linger and cause a huge field of smoke to cover you. They won't explode on contact but they will slow any enemy touching the gas field.
- Chaff Grenades have a delayed explosion, but anyone in the blast will have their special weapons jammed for a few seconds, forcing them to use the buster.
- Stun Mines cannot be thrown or moved and are set in place. If an enemy walks into its radius, they will bounce out of the ground and stun with a blinding effect. Hide them, because if the enemy sees the three pressure prongs they can destroy the mine in a single shot.
- The Shield Unit will shield you from any damage while it is active, but makes a whirring noise so you can't use it to avoid detection, only escape an alert phase or approach an enemy. It's sensitive, so it'll be totally jammed if you're in an alert phase.
- The Ninja Rope acts like an aimable wire adaptor, clinging onto surfaces and sending you flying in the direction of the hit. It won't work if you don't give it time to unravel, though, so aim a little far away. Also it doesn't do anything to the Light Team.
- The Cardboard Box can be hidden under with item use and removed the same way. Using fire when the box is active allows you to place it down as a decoy, and you can pick it up again. Moving or turning to watch people pass will give away that you're under it, obviously.
- Work with your team to hide when the alert counter is up and avoid getting hit. If the alert counter is going, the entire team is revealed, so don't be the weakest link!

Currently in open beta. V0 was released over Best Ever and V0-5 / V0-8 is being released here. This wasn't tested too thoroughly and isn't a complete version, so just lower your expectations and have some fun.

DECORATE and ACS Modifications / Mega Man Unlimited Weapons
« on: January 31, 2015, 05:53:03 PM »
According to windows, this was made in mid 2013 by me and I think Blaze did a few of the sprites, it was cancelled when I didn't feel like making ANOTHER huge expansion

I had it around in my folder for the longest time so I thought I'd clean it up and release it

Jet Missile: fires a fast travelling explosive missile in a line. If charged, locks on to the nearest target.
Tank Arsenal: fires a straight explosive, one small explosive rocket that travels to the ground then goes parallel to it, and one lobbing grenade.
Glue Shot: an arcing projectile that stuns people it hits and can be used to create solid platforms.
Comet Dash: a melee battering ram attack that can be used as a dash and fires projectiles left and right when travelling.
Nitro Blast: a short range line of powerful explosions.
Rainbow Beam: a quick travelling attack that can be detonated in a click to create a large field of damage.
Nail Shield: a hugging damage shield that can be swapped out without disappearing. Creates a spread shot of nails when fired off.

This is old and I didn't update it much so here are some issues
-Jet Missile's charging will allow you to damage shootable objects (eg. Party Ball, Oil tanks) just by looking at them
-Glue Shot doesn't check to see if it can spawn so people will be stuck in it easily
-Yo-Yo Cutter was never made
-Yoku Attack was never made
-Water Cannon wasn't even out when this was made

enjoy and use them in whatever you want

If you have a cover that I already have up there, don't let me know unless it's a famitracked version of a tune I have up there from a ROM hack, replacing those songs if I can

Rejected / [Suggestion] Show some love to lifeless stages!
« on: July 13, 2013, 03:01:22 PM »
This is just my opinion, but a few of the maps in the core feel a bit lifeless due to lack of props, animated textures, or other things. I suggest going back through the core maps and adding some enemy props or detailed backgrounds to really make them look pretty!

Alphabetical order because core
(click to show/hide)
That's all. I would suggest enemies for the two MM8 Dr. Wily stages, but I don't know that game very well.

YD! This is too much work!
No it isn't... We have tonnes of capable spriters (and a few that can do 800x the work that everyone else does), so we could cover it if we wanted to!

YD! This is pointless!
Well that's just totally like, your opinion man.

YD! You forgot things!
Post and tell me about them!
