Mega Man Discussion / Re: Megaman Unlimited
« on: August 02, 2014, 11:45:49 PM »
I still don't like Mega Man Unlimited overall, but kudos to Whirlpool-Man.  His stage was typical MMU for the most part, but compared to other stages in the game, it was a reasonable length, and he himself is the most fun RM battle the game has to offer.
(Even if Water Cannon is incredibly boring...)

I would have used the NSF and NSF Importer for Famitracker personally.
I guess this is pretty nice though, it could have been compressed a bit better.

I sincerely hope you aren't expecting credit for other people using these songs but their own loops of said songs.
I probably could've, but it was more headache than I was willing to deal with.  I'd already spent what amounts to an entire day on this anyway.

And honestly, if you go and make a better edition of this music pack, I expect nothing more than a metaphorical slap to the face.  For one, you'll have done all the work yourself on that; and for two, I know some of these loops aren't quite as good as they could be (Namely, off the top of my head, Treasure Knight's Stage, Mole Knight's Battle, Tinker Knight's Battle - Form 2).  Heck, if someone makes a better version of this music pack, I'll probably use it in favor of my own.

Hey, guys.  Yeah, it's me again.  No, I'm not making something dumb this time...in fact, this time, I think I've dug up something you're going to enjoy quite a lot.  ...Hahahaha, ha ha, ha.  "dug up."  I fell myself.

Shovel Knight Music Pack
This game is still relevant, right?  Straight from the OST download, which can be obtained for free (Since there is no minimum price on the Bandcamp).  This was my first time trimming songs to get better loops; I'm sorry if they still suck, but I thought even my subpar, inexperienced job would be preferable to the fade-out in the original album.  The song code list is below, in what's more or less the order you hear them in-game:

No, I'm not trying to pretend I'm still relevant.  I know I'm not.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Future bots' chats & taunts
« on: July 12, 2014, 05:25:13 PM »
Mr. Broker, if I may.

For the longest time, I was led to believe that Wind-Man's RoamingString of "U.S.A!" was present because he had some relationship to it.  I was puzzled for quite a while as to why the US appeared to have two representatives (Tomahawk-Man couldn't hail from anywhere else, after all), but I would accept it.

But the Mega Man Knowledge Base had enlightened me recently, claiming that the queue emerging from the top of Wind-Man's head suggested that he came from and represented China.  With this in mind, I find that string to be unfitting, and humbly request that it be changed or removed.

Hey, yo, it's been a long time since I've come to this topic!  I've come along to dump what I've found in my Internet conquests.  I've found too many to describe them all, so I'll let the videos do the talking.

I'm not saying all of them are good.  In fact, I'd probably give most of them a miss.  Except Infinity 2 and Wily's Final Attack.  Those two look good.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Your thoughts on the Mega Man X series?
« on: June 10, 2014, 12:51:05 AM »
From a gameplay perspective, it's a fine series.  Once you learn all the things you're capable of in X, it flows really well, and is a ball to play (Even if the weapons are excessive at times whereas Classic's are not nearly so much).

From a storytelling/character design perspective, I think it's absolute garbage.  But no one agrees with me there, so take that with a grain of salt.

For real, Knux?  You're still holding a grudge against me for...whatever it is I did?

Why don't you tell me what I did wrong instead of being all passive-aggressive about the whole thing.  Only I've already asked you to do so, like, four times and you never did.

And...well, I guess I have some sprite-ripping to do.

I'm very pleased with how this came out.
Oh, cool.

I would be vaguely interested in trying to get together a Rockmen R Expansion Pack.  Heck, I'd go back into that game and rip sprites if I had to, in order to guarantee its happening.

But I know how this community is with Expansion Packs, so I never bothered to mention it before.

Projects & Creative / Re: TMK4's Workshop (New Project Idea)

Crazy Cannon and at least three different Shield Attackers already exist in the form of skins.

I would always check the skin list before asking for enemy sprites.  A fair number of Mega Man enemies have been converted into skins.

Rejected / Re: [SUGGESTION] RNC Content in Core
« on: May 24, 2014, 09:25:30 PM »
Well, I can't really say that this ruling is unfair or is completely without logic, but I still am disappointed by this outcome.  I know I'm not going to change any minds, but I would at least like to make this statement.

I've always figured that Expansion Packs were the most successful thing in MM8BDM.  They add a bit of everything for everyone to enjoy, and it's been the only thing that can consistently cause a resurgence in playing.  v2, v3, v4, all of them had everyone get back in the scene and drew in some new attention as well.
That's why I've always pushed as hard as my incompetent self can to get the fanmade Expansion Packs finished—help out with those I could, support those I couldn't, even try to head a couple.  It was a direct way to contribute to keeping the game alive, fresh, and interesting.  I was overjoyed when RNC came out.
Now I know that, due to what I ascribe to lack of compatibility, that it has not had anything resembling the lasting impact of the official expansion packs.  I have discovered that the fanmade Expansion Pack is inferior to the official one in terms of production time and impact—and solely by the virtue of being fanmade, at that.

It was for this reason that I thought it would be a good idea to get the fanmade Expansion Pack in the core game.  But the lead says no and the polls agree with him, so I guess I'm done here.

You do realize that 10 points in 2 minutes would mean a capture every 12 seconds, right?
And a quick litmus test reveals that it's basically impossible to reach the enemy flag from the spawn in 12 seconds.

...Yyyeeeah, this isn't even physically possible, let alone reasonable.

I first found MM8BDM when someone posted about it at Exploding Rabbit, home of Super Mario Bros. Crossover, which is—yeah you already know that.

Somebody posted it, and I, being a budding Mega Man fan at the time (I had only just beaten Mega Man 2, and on Normal at that), saw it, and became thrilled at the prospect.  A Mega Man-styled, 8-bit 3D shootout?!  It was something I had to give a try!  I downloaded MM8BDM during the v1b days, and I signed up for CutStuff right away, but I didn't post for quite some time.

I remember when Roboenza was just released...ah, that feels like so long ago now.

I don't consider RNC to be official so I really don't want it being added to the core, but feel free to discuss. A fanmade expansion is possible though!

No, see, that's the whole thing.  The fanmade expansion pack has been completed since September 2012.

I did my best to describe how it could be incorporated as simply and unobtrusively as possible (Since no one plays it anymore and that holy grail that all MM8BDM modders strive for—or at least ought to strive for, in my humble opinion—all went to waste), but I guess it's impossible to argue with "The lead says no" so whatever

Rejected / [SUGGESTION] RNC Content in Core
« on: May 19, 2014, 01:15:44 AM »
I know that MM8BDM v4 was just released, and no one wants to detract from the general excitement.  I chose this moment because now, all of CutStuff's most experienced devs are unoccupied (Aside from looking into bugs), and may thus consider this more thoroughly.

For the most part, the Rockman No Constancy Expansion Pack was enjoyed.  When it came out, it was the thing to be hosted; it seemed like every server had it installed.  But when mods like VSH came back to the top, they never became compatible with the expansion pack; and thus, it faded into obscurity, and shortly after, unplayability (With updates).
RNC will need an update and a once-over just for compatibility purposes; and, I know of no one that would object to having any more content, let alone the content of the RNC Expansion Pack, in the core.  And it is for this reason—that more people may be able to enjoy it—that I propose that the content of the RNC Expansion Pack may be amalgamated into the core MM8BDM game.

It comes to my attention that some people may not want any fanmade content alongside the core, which is, apparently, supposed to only feature content from official Mega Man games.  They may not want any RNC weapons in their core maps to damper their "official game" experience.  I once recall CutManMike saying that once the official games, he would look into adding core content for fangames, ROM hacks, et cetara; but beyond that, who said they had to put any RNC content in the core maps?  By all means, leave the RNC weapons out of the core maps; they don't belong in there anyway.  Some server RCON dedicated to adding its weapons in/taking them out of LMS's weapon rotation would be ideal, but if not, I would be satisfied to leave them out entirely (For, undoubtedly, someone would make a mod for it).  Beyond skins and bots (Which no one cares much about anyway), adding RNC's content into the core does not have to have any sort of notable impact.

But how are we supposed to incorporate the RNC campaign into the main one?
Like the weapons in the core maps, you don't.  My proposition is thus:  create a new branch of the Light Laboratory map, which can lead to Rockman No Constancy's campaign (And, presumably, the campaign of other fanmade expansions at a later date).  Its structure would likely be changed to the "save after every level" method that MM8BDM has used since v3, for constancy *Shot* with the rest of the game, if nothing else.  It could be managed by some friendly side character; perhaps Mega Man himself, or Fan or Kalinka (Mega Man being replaced with one of the other options when he gets grievously injured by King in the MM&B campaign).  They would explain that the new campaigns are new circuits for the Robot Master Tournament, which would allow them to stay topically relevant while still remaining unobtrusive to the plot as it currently stands (The Robot Mater Tourney having not been a plot point since all the way back in v1).

What about the MMPU Expansion Pack?  Why do they get left out in the cold?
Unfortunately, MMPU Expansion Pack became little more than a glorified Remix Map Pack when Time-Man and Oil-Man were added to the core.  While the MMPU content wasn't bad in any respect, it rings of redundancy, and it's not fully 8-bit besides (The music from MMPU would have to be chiptuned first).  While its campaign and maps were enjoyable, I am, in truth, unsure with how to proceed adding its content to the core.

The only objection I could think to raise against this proposal is that the content of the Rockman No Constancy Expansion Pack is too low-quality (Though I don't see how it could be; many of the A-list mappers that have been called upon to help official Expansion Packs had a hand in RNC) and would need reconstruction to the point of distracting the team from working on bug fixes and balance tweaks.  With that in mind, I think the only question left for me to ask is who agrees with me, as one thing I failed to do in preparation for this post is poll the public.
