The Ultimate MAP Pack (Volume 1) - CANCELLED
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:29:23 PM »
Questions Korby will answer before I make this:
since I blatantly stole his format (thanks Korb, hope you don't mind)

Q: Can I get my map in?
A: Sure. It's 'may I' though.

Q: Will you use my map if I don't ask you to?
A: Is Dr. Wily a misunderstood philanthropist?

Q: How do I get my map in?
A: Post a link to download it and an image of what the hell it is. Be sure to specify who/what it is. For example.
"Bob
(image)
(download link)"

Q: What about the wiki? How come my map isn't on there too?
A: Because you haven't said you're okay with having it there yet! In fact this topic would be a good place for you to give permission for it, so do so!

Q: When will this be released?
A: November 30th. Have everything you want in by the 29th, and it will be released on the 30th.

Q: Why?
A: Because people have been wanting something like this for a looong time. Also, why not?

Without further interruptions, start posting.

Sorry. I'm just not interested in submitting any of my maps. I want full control over them. So when I make an update, there won't be people downloading old versions.
I also wish to create my own map pack once I have enough DM and CTF maps done. Which is part of the reasons why I don't want them to be in any map packs such as this.

So good luck, but personally I think it's too early to be starting one of these. The mapping development is still in it's early stages of infancy.

Ivory does have a point.  I have updated my Wily Stage 5 map, but what if there's an error pointed out seconds after you include it in this pack?  I'll release a new version that nobody will grab because they've just downloaded the "Ultimate" map pack.  I'm afraid I'm going to have to pull out of this pack.

something something what about updates we quit
1. That's part of where the "Volume 1" comes in.

2. The real important agenda of this was to spread some interest in custom content in the first place. If people actually start playing these things because for once they're easily accessible, they're going to be much more likely to want to check out the community and keep informed on the latest updates and whatnot than they ordinarily may have been.

but it's too early!
I think it's up to the submissions to decide that, personally. We have enough reasonably playable maps that if people actually participated a good-sized pack would put itself together, but if not, well, oh well.

Quote
booga booga unspoken behind the scenes talk about quality control?
judging map 'worthiness' is fairly subjective and ego-intensive, but if something is obviously unplayable, needs much more work or otherwise has no redeeming value that matter can be handled

Obviously you're all free to do whatever you want with your maps, just thought a little of the reasoning behind all this might be
encouraging

Considering I only have one submission now, it's likely the pack is to be cancelled. We'll see.
