Most MM8BDM servers are STILL using Skulltag 98c-alpha.
« on: July 19, 2010, 03:35:50 AM »
Man, this is ridiculous.

So, I'm showing 5 servers running MM8BDM right now on Doomseeker.
Here's the rundown:

1. YAULIMAX, In Peru, Running 98c-alpha. It's empty.

2. Megaman 8-Bit DM - lawarias.srb2.org, In the US, Running the newest version of 98c. It's empty.

3. Rockman Server, In the US, Running 98c-alpha. It's got 4 people in it.

4. /v/'s server, In the US, Running 98c-alpha. It's empty.

5. Brandon's 24/7 Megaman 8-Bit DM, In the US, Running the newest version of 98c. It's empty.

Out of those 5, only two are running a version of Skulltag I can play and they're empty. Everybody else is still running the alpha. The one server with people in it right now, I'm shut out of.
The most active server is the /v/ server, which at any given time usually has like 5-15 people in it, and I can't get into it at all. Someone from /v/ told me two days ago they were going to update and never have.
A 6th server was active not 10 minutes ago from Chile and had like 7-10 people in it, but they were also running the alpha version and I couldn't play.

Why haven't these servers been updated yet?
I know, I know, I'm ranting. But it's not like Mike hasn't had the post about the Skulltag update on his blog for days now.

I realize there isn't much else that can be done to get the word out about the update. I'm just annoyed because I want to play and the only active games most of the time are on servers I can't access.

Anybody else running into this problem because they updated to the new version?
On Windows XP, you could just keep playing the alpha version and be done with it, but on Mac the is no alpha version. So I'm stuck.

I've got the same problem.  Plus, there's barely anybody on those servers, which sucks for me because I suck at 1 vs. 1 because I have to use my laptop's built in mouse.

Ew, track pad.
I hate those things.

1 vs. 1 doesn't bother, and I'll play if I can. It just sucks to see a room with a decent amount of people in it and not be able to join them.

Cool.

Yeah, I never had a problem getting into your server since you've been running the newest build anyway.

Just relax, once the next version or expansion is out everyone will upgrade for it.

It's my fault. I should have not have bundled that version of Skulltag with the Mega Man stuff. Unfortunately the ST team had no indication of whether a new version was coming or not, so I had no idea how long it was going to take for a new one to come out (and usually it takes a long time).

No, Mike, you didn't have a clue the new version was coming out. It's not your fault. Just overlook me, I'm just venting more than anything. :|

Like I said, I don't think there's much else that can be done to get the word out until the full version is released. You've already posted about the update on the blog. I suspect that most of the servers are coming from "drive-by" downloaders that have heard the demo came out and don't actually hang out here, which could be why they don't yet know about he update.

The guy I talked to on /v/ that claimed to be the one running that server SAID he'd get it changed over, but hell, with it being an anonymous board god knows who I actually spoke to. And the email address attached to the server is for moot, and I know damn well he doesn't have time to run a server for this.
Guess I'll have to take BEan's advice and chill for a while.

Whats wrong with giving out the game with everything you need. I would of done the same thing.

When I found out about the skulltag update, I immediately prepared a new zipfile for my clan and myself, then hosted it on my dropbox. I also tried throwing in a preconfigured WASD config file (didn't work for some reason). I made sure to give it a new file name to end any confusion.

Here is the link I have been passing out. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3477448/MM8BDM- ... 20LITE.zip
