You can use Fami-Tracker. I can't say it's exactly "n00b-friendly" though.

Famitracker is simple. You just need to get started, and have its wiki opened just in case.

It can't do the music for you, you have to have the tune in your head!

Press space, then use your keyboard as a piano.

Here's a tip:
If you press < in the pattern editor, any instrument that is currently playing will mute. Use this feature until you know a bit more about the volume sequence editor :3

Thank you
. For some reason, I couldn't figure this out for myself. I'd been trying for some time, too! ASKJKJSA. >_<
In any case, I was using
FruityLoops Studio
and SoundFonts for my 8-bit music, in the rare occasions I felt like being retro. I made a(nother)
Quint remix
back when
Mega Man 10
was still fresh, but due to the fact
no one's made a good
Mega Man
drum SoundFont
, I ended up using Game Boy drums in it. The song itself sounds alright otherwise.

No problem. I was the same way until I watched a tutorial on youtube. I just felt so stupid after learning it was pressing space.
