FPS drops on MM9MAG and MM7FRE?
« on: July 30, 2016, 09:37:33 PM »
I've had several reports of this. Some of us encountered the Magma Man issue during development a few times but this is the first I've heard of it on MM7FRE.

I have FPS drops on MM7STR when looking up front from one side to the other. Might just be me or it might just be expected, though.

I'm assuming that MM7STR's frame drops likely have to do with the rate at which Bunbi Tanks spawn, so in the future I'll knock those down a bit (especially if I get Mad Grinder rotations in the future).
EDIT: Actually, if you could freeze the map at the start and tell me if frame problems persist without bunbis spawning to begin with, I can see whether it's outside detail or the bunbis causing things

Last session on MM7CLO I was having some large frame drops around the tall ladders with Super Adaptor platforms nearby.

Haven't gotten any frame drops on MM9MAG, MM7FRE, or MM7STR for that matter but there's probably room for optimization here and there.

On MM9MAG, script 3 is being spammed mercilessly, which may be the cause:

Fun fact: On my tablet device, it takes about 6 minutes on that map before the FPS drops to an unplayable rate, but on my gaming laptop it takes about 32 minutes before the FPS starts choking.

Maybe fixed? Will keep in pending until confirm but Script 3 now gets terminated.

I've made some changes to that stage to reduce the sector count, hopefully it helps. Try launching the game with this file and going to MM7STR see if performance improves (ignore the broken actors on the sides of the map): https://www.dropbox.com/s/t2rv66713rr77en/070-MM7STR.wad?dl=0

I think those are placeholders Zandronum puts when the map tries to spawn a non-existent actor.

I got the same results; still lags a little (prolly due to my craptop) but it's a big improvement compared to before.

About MM7FRE having some framedrops. I have a theory that its the sector with the spike pit. I get stable framerates (85-95 FPS) elsewhere in the map but then i drop to 70 FPS when i go to the cliff, and said framerates are when i am alone on a server so a packed up servers could make the framedrop higher.

And sorry for bumping this thread, i didn't saw enough comments on MM7FRE framedrops.

Yeah those linedef spikes are very sketchy to me so I replaced them with actor spikes for v5b.

Also, MMBPIR always lags to me so is MMBMUS, both lag too much in OpenGL, I needed to start to play in Software to play it. Tengu Man stage also but, this both in software and OpenGL lag, but it only lags when I'm looking to the "flying platforms". I don't know why.
