General Gaming Discussion / "complicated relationship" games or franchises?
« on: November 16, 2020, 05:46:00 AM »
This probably sounds weird but have you ever had something that you just, never could really tell if you liked something or not. Wether this be for a single game or an entire series, What's something you always had mixed or very complicated feelings with? Something you couldn't get a good concrete settlement on for at least a good amount of time.

For me, It's been Mega Man (At least the mainline Classic series) in general. While I've grown to like the series more over time, for a majority of my life I honestly could never tell if I genuinely enjoyed the games or not. And considering how the fanbase was during the 2000's to early 2010's, I honestly kept flip-flopping on my opinion and didn't really know how to express myself. That is, of course: until now. These days I'm much more open about which games I actually find fun, And came to understand why with my "modernist" attitude on games. Ever since then, I've considered myself an avid fan at best, which helps considering a lot more people these days I find relate to my tastes.

-I think the first two games aged poorly
-I think 4-8 were when the series was really got enjoyable for me
    -I wasn't a fan of the direction 9 and 10 took
-11 more or less was the grand return I was long hoping for.

In the end, I realized I did like the series. Just... a lot differently than other people online during my childhood.

I had this idea for a long time but only now am I getting to it after the release of MM11.

Main inspiration from the fact a lot of mods for this game use sounds that aren't even 8-bit (you know who you are) and wanting to create my envisionment of what my ideal sound direction for Mega Man would be in general. Samples come from Mega Man 8, Mega Man 7, The sounds used in the main PK3/The usual 8-bit samples, Powered Up, Smash Bros and the recently released Mega Man 10. All mixed into singular clips. Obviously I wanted to go for a similar direction Smash Bros has used for several characters besides Mega Man: IE Mario, Sonic and Pac-Man by mixing in chiptune sounds with more modern sounding ones.

The Ghoul's Forest / THE GHOUL'S FOREST - A Ghoul 3 remaster
« on: June 24, 2019, 06:26:29 PM »
I doubt this is gonna bring back interest into bringing people back to making Ghoul wads but I felt Ghoul 3 needed a bit of an update. :P Read here for more details and a download link.

Seriously, Cutty. Thank you. Hopefully you will appreciate and enjoy this as much as I did making it. :)

The Ghoul's Forest / Unused Content?

Doubting Cutty or anybody else for that matter still has the files for this but I found this years back and was always curious what most of these looked like.

The Ghoul's Forest / Ghoul's World - Rebirth
« on: July 12, 2017, 06:19:46 PM »
A small unofficial continuation of Ghoul's World, an old Skulltag mod by DezzTech. The goal here is to make all 3 of the main GVH Humans playable and basically be what I had in mind for what I always felt the GVH Campaign should have been. Obviously taking place before the war, The whole world has fallen under siege of the ghouls and has becoming a living nightmare. Only you, A man of a resistance of 3 can end it.

This edit started back in 2016 but only recently have I gotten more motivation to work on it again.

Making this thread because, wow... It's been like, 10 years or so since the original Ghoul came out? (2005) I just want to go back and give CutmanMike himself a huge thank you for creating possibly my first horror experience in my childhood, The mod was probably one of the first things to even get me into Doom modding in general. It's pretty surprising to think it's been so long, huh? Even if the Ghouls have been put to rest, I still am holding onto my memories hoping maybe someday we'll step into the forest once more, Possibly as a next-gen GZDoom mod or a full-fledged independent game should it happen, As I've heard Cutty himself moved on from the Doom Community for the most part.

But, That's besides the point. The point here, Thanks for all the scares and screams you brought to us as well as being a huge inspiration and influence with horror themed Doom mods in general. Rather than just being some guy walking around dark corridors completely powerless, Your goal was to face your fear and really - I miss games like that in general, Even if they give you the shittiest weapon as your only option it's at least something.

Mega Man Discussion / Why I think Mega Man needs to move forward
« on: May 08, 2017, 03:07:40 AM »
Gee, it's a been a while since I posted here AGAIN, huh? Now, I don't want to sound like that kid who did that racist Mega Man 9 review, But I had mixed thoughts when 9 and 10 were released. 9, I was okay with considering a lot of people wanted a "callback" game for a while, 10 though... Wasn't my cup of tea, And what really turned me off from both games was the removal of the charge shot and slide. Now before I begin, I want to tell you guys what I coin as "NSMB Syndrome", Which is moreso being over-reliant on nostalgia/"callback" elements (especially moreso when it's used more than once or multiple times in a row in just a few years), not introducing much new or barely making a change. Such examples are so:
(click to show/hide)
This has been something that has bugged me with so many game franchises, The term obviously being coined from New Super Mario Bros. and the effect it had on the Mario series during the Wii U era. Now, This is fairly old but a while back there was news about Capcom having a survey of which franchises fans would like to see make a comeback - One of which being Mega Man 11. Now, I know there are going to be people who are going to disagree with me, But IMO - If Mega Man DOES come back, It needs to really be a true Next-Gen sequel to Mega Man 8, Moreso in gameplay and mechanics especially. Because if they go for another "NES 8-bit callback with no charge shot or slide"? It's going to have the same negative effect NSMB had on the Mario series and the reliance of Green Hill Zone/Classic Badniks being shoved into Sonic games. ((And my personal complaint, Pac-Man being limited to his arcade roots instead of being able to expand upon that ALA Pac-Man World))

What do you all think? Is it time for change? What do you want to see?

Mega Man Discussion / Is it just me...
« on: September 14, 2016, 06:43:33 PM »
Or do all of these 4 games have such similar reception of mixed to "terrible" apparently:

Mega Man 8
Super Mario Sunshine
Pac-Man World 3
Sonic Lost World

Okay, I get the voice acting in Mega Man 8 was an utter joke but... Was it really a BAD game? It's my personal favorite in the series since it felt more of "gradually" getting harder as opposed to MM1 which personally turned me off from the series for about 3 days at the time. ((I'm sorry, but at the time - just a few seconds into Ice Man and Guts Man and I had to quit before I lost my sanity. Fire Man and Elec Man weren't much better for someone growing up with the Super Mario GBA ports and Pac-Man World 2.)) Yes, I had the Anniversary Collection as a child on my GameCube, Sue me.

Skins & Bots etc / [SKIN] Mr. Driller
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:38:34 PM »
Yeah, The banished little dreaded devil of the Cutstuff community is back, now with rotation and firing frames. I did this back in like... 2014? I found it laying around in my mediafire so I thought it was worth showing off. I should probably give him an outline sometime though.
(click to show/hide)
I did the rotations all by myself with recovered artwork as a refrence, Sadly don't have the time to dig THAT back up. If I ever do decide to update this again, Along with said outline I wanna try and give him more sounds IE: Falling, Landing whatever is avaliable but as of now I don't have any desire to update him again anytime soon, Mr. Driller is probably a deader franchise then Klonoa at this point.

General Gaming Discussion / Pac-Man World

So... Let's talk about Pac-Man... No no, Not the new cringey reboot that's been fairly recent.

...This one. It's what I refer to as his "golden age", really. I feel it's just become forgotten over the years. Anybody here have some memories with the games? Share 'em here.

Anything Goes / Hello... I guess.
« on: June 28, 2016, 02:12:08 PM »
Well, Hello there. This place seems kind of dusty now that I look at it... Anyways: You probably remember me as the imfamous SuperMario123311, Or "Mario Numbers" if you'd prefer to call me that.

I am making this thread first and most importantly of all to say: I am sorry for what I did in the past and I take full responsibility for my actions. I was young at the time (12) and clearly didn't understand how forums worked, and I was very immature at the time. I was being outright stupid and I shouldn't have forced my interests upon others. I am sorry for any drama or nuisance I have caused during that time. I have grown since then, Now to the age of 17. I only said a stupid qoute because somebody else said a similar thing in a very old thread but that doesn't excuse my actions. These days I have moved on to much more complicated stuff and actually contributing to communities.

It's been a long time since I've even seen this board again and safe to say... Zandronum has since been getting kind of boring. Most of my work these days is toward art or other game creation/modding as I linked above. But the main reason I am making this, aside from apologizing and letting you know about my whereabouts is to see if I could get another chance and if you are to let me back in, I promise on my life that I will never act as stupid as I did in the past again. I don't want to be seen as some sort of Troll or Zygo for that matter nor do I want to be seen as another Sergeant Mark IV as I do not condone encouraging suicide at all as it's incredibly distasteful. I have started to get better when it comes to mapping, especially for the Doom Engine as well as learning how to add my own assets and whatnot.

If you chose to kick me out again of course, I'm fine with that. I made my mistakes but I would like to turn over a new leaf. I have grown more mature now and I want to leave behind my embarrassing past and actually be a nice individual to you all.

Fun Side Note Thingy: I have a fair amount of respect for the Mega Man franchise, My favorite game actually being 8 out of all of them. MM1 just hasn't aged well and kind of angered me when I played it when I was younger, especially compared to Pac-Man World 2 and Super Mario Sunshine which were games that got harder as you went along.

PSS: I've kind of lost interest in Mr. Driller as of late anyways.
