Doom builder 2 is trolling me.
« on: December 27, 2011, 03:18:57 AM »
I'm making a map with extra textures. When I try to align them using the 3D mode it looks like this:
(click to show/hide)
But In-game it looks like this:
(click to show/hide)

What's wrong there?

PS: Here's the unfinished map if you want to check it closely:

Do not trust Doom Builder 3D mode. Offsets do vary between OpenGL and Software. 3D Mode tends to be closer to OpenGL rendering than Software.

Sorry for late response, but... How do you make linedef bridges then? Aligning the textures with the numbers? (I don't know how to call these numbers)

3d floors work and look better.

Yeah, but I want to use the linedef bridges for something.
Also, A 3d floor can't have slopes, neither can a linedef bridge, but at least it's easier to make something like fake slopes with these by just drawing them. (Look at the pics above).

Not for girders.

My suggestion is to look at maps that still have them and try to learn, because I never fully grasped it myself.

Ok, that problem is solved, but here's another one.
There's something weird in the sky near a 3D floor.
(click to show/hide)
But the sky looks fine in OpenGL. Does anyone know what's wrong?
The map is here.
NOTE: I used the same thread because it's the same map, but bigger.

Oh deer. So many errors in this. I am fixing them as we speak. I'll edit this later with an explanation and a download link.

EDIT: For this test, I switched to software if you're wondering.

Okay, so I tried a couple of things. First, I pressed F4 and found an error. On the bottom left of the map, I found 2 open sectors, so I closed them to prevent visual bugs and other nastiness. I hen tried to draw lines around the places that looked like deleted sectors (quite a LOT D:) to see if that would fix it, but nope. Then I deleted the tower by Sector delete, then deleted it's remaining lines.  And it worked. No more glitched skies. I mad ea new sector with a tag number of 3 to see if it worked, and the bug returned. I closed many sectors around it too, and it persisted. This is beyond my understanding, but I would suggest that you refrain from building anything in that area.

Your map was missing a MAPINFO lump, which is needed in every map, so I took the liberty of adding one. You can change the music in SLumpED. (I put SDEMUS, Shademan's theme.)

This map, by the way, has some cool new textures and sprites. Well done! Here you go:

Oh well, I'll try using linedef bridges instead. Thanks for your help anyway.

BTW, what do you mean with "places that looked like deleted sectors"?

When you look at the trees near the house in the editor, they look like a sector you delete inside the map: white lines facing outward. I thought this might have been the source of the problem, but it seems you managed to make structures out of... emptiness. o_o It boggles the mind, I tell you...
