Events / Competitive Standard
« on: December 28, 2019, 01:21:47 AM »
This is more of a discussion than it is an event and my actual intention isn't to draw an argument. Let's keep the discussion here, if any, civil.

I'm Mobius. You know who I am by now. I am the forerunner for what is now considered "the scene" or compet scene for 8bdm regarding classes (no one plays vanilla anymore anyway). My resume features 3 completed round-robin/single elimination tournaments and won 2 out of 3. Featured in all 3 finals. Everyone knows about A3 and whether you hate them or not the impact it has had is profound. We have now a small clan scene with irregular scrimmages and for CBL S4 all the major clans (shoutouts to Sex and XKS) will participate. When I am not organizing events and making sure things are happening I am shuttling players to other events. That's kind of the point for this topic. We should elucidate a standard if we are to continue having tournaments.

After CBL S3 a lot of players tend to take breaks exhausted from weeks of intense training and lab work. We rarely get post-season events but Mickle was getting a vanilla event together (Scorched Earth) and I figured I'd promote for him. It was a success off the gate with very few teams dipping, but overall Mickle got additional players from CBL (some dudes in vanilla has done a season so there's some overlap). It was an experience that brought together a divide between players from Vanilla, CBM, and CCBM and though not as big as CBL itself it's still very commendable to have differing players share games. There will be differences but that's natural and hopefully I'll step up for the next one. So far that's all well in good from this community's stand-point: we're finally bridging everything slowly.. very slowly.

Then recently another tournament came up from lesser known players. A few known players entered as ringers with some special rules in place for one of them: their class selection was limited to 5 and it was agreed upon. The tournament started and suddenly new stipulations was added mid games especially because this player won. What also ended up happening was his teammate got rules piled on him too despite not having any restrictions before-hand. Long story short: the inevitable happened and that these two guys lost. Bum deal. The identities of the parties involved are concealed since the issue was done with, but it does bring up another issue I want to discuss for the future: the future.

The end of 2019 -- 2019 as a whole -- has had many tournaments and a whole new booming scene for the competitive side. New players, a new public private server, new clans, and tournaments back to back coming into a new decade I want to see more of that. What I don't want to see is more tailored made house rules that limit a player and discriminate based on their perceived abilities and this is a story as old as time in 8bdm from what I am told. We're coming into a whole new era now and it's time we shed the past where it was. This community hasn't been as actively fierce as it has been since probably 2012 or 2013 and hopefully more step up throughout the era, but we should no longer allow or at least entertain events that cater to a marginal crowd of people at the expense of others. For too long the word "fun" has been used as a catch-all to deny others the chance to play properly and fairly. If we are to continue making tournaments and events then we have to really consider what is the main objective of a tournament, and though fun is a goal to achieve it isn't a ubiquitous standard. Having different rules is fine, but selectively targeting should be something we don't allow anymore. Tournaments are events players come in to win at: that's the fun.

What do I propose? Coming into 2020 we should all at least agree on a few things if we are to engage each other in-game. We can keep our trisected community right now because those are issues that are beyond just PVP. What we could do is try to focus our players into adopting some sort of mind-frame where if you are to ENGAGE in PVP that the rules you create should be fair to everyone involved (all consenting parties). I'm not suggesting a universal rule set but a universal brand of honor. Where we endorse more healthy outlets of neutral tournament play and look for fraudulent behavior when it appears. We don't have to go around ratting on each other, but those in the scene no matter where they are to protect each other even if we're on different sides of the aisles and protect our brand.

Shout outs to Mickle, KD, and Bawdy back in the vanilla servers
Props to Sex and XKS for making clans a thing now
and naturally those who compete in CBL regardless if you are in A3, XKS, SEX, or even neutrals.

This thread is only for the sole purpose of displaying which maps will be played for the week, play offs, and finals! It will display which team will face who in each week as well. The final 2 sessions (8 and 9) will be contigent on the season and the team's overall win/loss record (the best teams fight each other in week 9).

Playoff maps will be determined by the team with the best win/loss record in the season. The team with the best record will pick 1 map from the entire season (not the finals) as their homefield to play their game.

Events / Class Based League - CBM Round-Robin (Interest Check only)
« on: December 02, 2017, 12:20:45 AM »

What is it?

A team based seasonal tournament where players are in teams of 3 or 4 players (we can negotiate it) and compete in a 9 week event of round robin tournament for Team Last Man Standing. Players sign up not just individually into the FA (Free Agency pool) but as captains as well if they wish to.

Team based?

Yes. Players who are captains run their teams throughout the entirety of the season and compete against other teams each week. The team with the best win/loss record makes it play-offs against other strong teams. The final team teams make it to the finals. I'll make some cool megaman badges for winners, MVPs, and runner ups. You can only have up to 3 players in your team (We can do 4s if you guys like or 4s where the 4th player is a substitute for a missing player for their game).

How does it work?

Players that sign up into the FA or wish to become captains do so in the official sign up thread I'll post later when enough interest is made. Captains are free to pick these FA players for their team if they wish to trade their players away prior to the play-offs.

There's a draft then?

Not right now. I am not sure if enough of these players know each other enough to properly and adequately judge the skill of players they pick, and it's easier for players who are familiar with each other right now to make a team. So this league -- for the first few seasons will allow Franchising. So to be a captain you must find 2 players willing to play with you in your team to qualify as a legitimate team (that with team names and availabilities). FA is for everyone. Maybe we'll do drafts. We can talk about it in this thread.

How do I sign up?

Here's how the sign up templates look

Code: [Select]
Name: Your name
Captain or Player:
Availability: When you're available to play (generally. I'll bother you each week for it).
Classes: You are only permitted 3

Players sign up with only allotted 3 characters they are good with in TLMS (this goes for franchised players and Captains). You cannot pick any other character but those 3 for the entire season of this tournament. You can switch between those three throughout any game whether its rounds or whole games itself, but you cannot deviate from your main 3 until the end of the tournament. There can be no duplicate classes for players on the same team.

What's the point of FA?

So let's say you have only 1 other person on your team but you need a third? You can pick that player from the available Free Agents, or another scenario is that members of your team quit. You can trade your player(s) for anyone in the FA. You cannot make trades after the 9th session (9th week before playoffs).

How does trading work?

A captain may swap players from his team from either the FA or with captains of other teams. We can discuss the limitations of trading, but so far a captain must only trade one player a week (if you want a revolving door for a team that is). This goes for both FA and Captain trading. Captains must notify their trades to the commissioner of the league (me) but trades will not be approved of based on "parity" and thus I'll only screen for trades that break the trade limit rule.

What's the map pool?

Map pool is determined by me and I will not select meme, overt pits, or insane spawn disparity. I'll throw up our first season's 9 session map selection. Each week every team who is fighting each other will fight on the same map as everyone else.

Can I name my team?

Yes, but let's try to keep it Megaman related and appropriate. No vulgarity.

When will this happen

When we can drum up enough for 6 teams minimum. 8 teams ideally. 12 teams max for now.

Can I help moderate or something?

I might need someone to help me with either server stuff or scheduling. I'll elect people to help me based on what they can offer.

MM8BDM Discussion / Cube (A3) clan for Megaman
« on: June 26, 2016, 03:40:50 AM »

The exponential expression that powers a variable in triplicate. The perfect numerical equation of the third root power -- 3. Cube represents the trio -- a triad combining 3 individuals from the supervoid that was their founding organizations. This trinity forged from the smoldering malaise beset by consecutive attempts at creating a union of like-minded individuals. The ternion became as a third but finalize enterprise, but proven to be a successful formula. The predecessors of yesterday;s most powerful factors, with sheer dedication and awareness, formed a cabal of ternary. Among the masses they have colonized prior, they were celestial. As Cube, they traverse parsecs of empty dimension as extraterrestrial bodies and encounter many a foe. Adversaries with stylized hair configurations and humanoid genitalia cascading as a jaw threaten to eradicate the essence of all otherworldly amusement, material defense forces sending waves of their expendable marines, and other syndicates oppose Cube;s quest of dominance over the Cosmos. Despite these grizzly odds, the variable of A, that represents Cube, is powered by trine indefeasible forces as mentioned before. Only through them, having access to the grand vastness of the metagalaxy, could vanquish all opposition and bring about an era of tranquility through retro-active recreational style.

We as cube symbolize many things. We are either hypercube as four dimensional entities or exist in cubical fourth dimensions, or simply solve problems as they occur. We simplify problems, but also convert negative exponents to positive ones by inverting fractions. Fractions stand as a euphemism for other variables, like cube, with their own exponential equations. ALL EQUATIONS that wishes to combine light terms with Cube is negative, and therefore MUST BE INVERTED! Not only do we convert your negative exponents, but we will then simplify and solve the equation of your expression. To put it simply, we INVERSE THE FUNK OUT OF OTHER CLANS! We arrange scheduled events where trinomial expressions, or even polynomial, are combined as like terms. Since our trinomial expressions are of different variables and exponents, the only way to utilize this function is through force.

    Era of Conception
Since Cube consist of the primary triplet of former clans before it, the official date remains relatively unknown for now. Cube has existed long enough to those that know of A3.

The Ghoul's Forest / [Ghouls vs Humans] - MAP META DISCUSSION
« on: July 31, 2010, 12:50:23 AM »
I have been contemplating for a few months about hosting again for GVH once I resolve my port forwarding issue. The idea came to me that perhaps hosting a private server with more organized matches was appealing. It occurred I could do both, but I wanted to entertain the private server much more. I already concocted certain rules and the like for the private server (borrowed heavily from Zdaemon and Skulltag's CTF private games), but I always saw debates about classes for Ghouls vs Humans. I've seen the classic Jitter arguments, been in vintage Marine arguments, and even saw the new Frostbite scare.

For those THAT KNOW Ghouls vs Humans, being more than a year old, could probably tell you that any situation is mainly map dependent. We won't lie and ignore each classes strength or weakness, but we do know maps cater specifically to certain play styles every class brings to the table. We all should be able to freely discuss and analyze the map balance by now as seasoned veterans, which is what this thread is going to shed light on.

I will proudly introduce you all to

Ghouls vs Humans
META MAP DISCUSSION

Now before we begin with our in depth discussion on which maps are the best or brightest for whatever, let's familarize ourselves with each specific map. I took the liberty of screen-shooting every Ghouls vs Humans map with additional information along side them.

The purpose of this discussion is to elaborate on the map balance among ourselves and put our minds together and come with a consensus on what is the best maps for both Ghouls and Humans. We will converse over which maps have the best flow, cover, exposure, height, and anything else that factors in what is necessary in combat to weed out lesser maps. This discussion will not only dictate the overall fate of my private map rotation, but to finally settle which maps, and why, are great or poor.

Rules and things to consider:

This is a very serious thread. I will not talorate tom-foolery or one lining of any kind. This is not a bash thread no matter how you feel about something. This is for players to freely speak about which maps, and why, are the most balanced and overall good gems. I will not expect nor condone ambiguity of ANY KIND in this thread. You see a map you have qualms against? Elaborate on what aspects of the map that is displeasing to the game overall. I will remove any post that justifies itself as, "I just don't like it," or, "It's shit." I want you to sell these points to someone that is uninformed -- educate me.

This is not an opinion dump, and I won't have any of it here. It can't be helped that we have points of view and I am very aware this thread will generate this from not only myself and others; however, we can ultimately alleviate the majority of self gratifying opinions from cold hard fact (or closet thing to it). I will clear the smoke now and say that opinions are not inherently wrong, but opinions can be wrong or inaccurate. Please explain your opinion and keep it free from emotional attachment or bias.

As much as I welcome free discussion, it boils absolutely to experience and know-how. This doesn't exclude newer players or the inexperience from voicing what possibly can be evidence, fact, or viable thought but keep in mind that I want, and expect, seasoned, veteran, and "good," players to give input. This might or might not have more weight than you, but if you've only been playing for about two months and don't have the experience enough to give much more insight than either evaluate your stance and post with enough evidence as possible, or sit back and read a bit until something good hits you. Season players, I want you guys to be as behave and considerate as possible.. and provide freakin` evidence.

The final goal of this discussion is to weed out the weaker maps and finally organize what we considered competitive and fair among the maps. Try to only specifically keep it map base while we keep class base minimal. THIS WILL NOT DETERMINE THE OVERALL OUTCOME OF ANY GHOUL VS HUMAN RELEASE. This is mainly for those of us that want to finally step this up a notch and get down to what is and what isn't balance as players.

I will accept arguments as long as PEOPLE KEEP IT CIVIL! DO NOT EVEN ENTICE any player no matter what it is they say. Someone flamed you or said something that is either trolling or baiting? Don't even reply, report it to me immediately and I will remove it (assuming it is breaking the rules). I will not accept flaming, trolling, or one-liners in this thread. I hate to explain so much for a thread like this, but I've seen, and even myself, have gotten out of hand in GVH balance discussion.

Alright guys.. let's do this!
