Hello everyone! I'm sure some of the newer users out there know that some people use custom skins and music, and wonder how they might use them too. The answer is in this topic!
1. The Skins Folder
The most essential piece of using custom skins and music is the Skins folder. Simply create a new folder in the same directory as the Skulltag/Zandronum client (not MM8BDM.exe!) you use to run MM8BDM and name it "skins". That's all there is to it!
2. Downloading Custom Skins and Music
You'll want to mosey on over to the Skins and Bots etc. (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=30), browse the skin topics, and download the files of any skins or music packs you want. Alternatively, check here (http://mm8bdm.wikia.com/wiki/User_Created_Skins) for a comprehensive list of available skins, although some download links may be broken. There is no list of music packs at the time of writing.
3. Installing Custom Skins and Music
So, now you have the files but what do you do with them? Well...:
If the file is a .wad or a .pk3...
Simply move it to your skins folder. It's that simple!
If the file is NOT a .wad or a .pk3...
If it the file is a .zip that contains the .wad(s) or .pk3(s) or any other type of archive file, simply extract the file(s) into your skins folder. If it is a .zip archive that does not contain the .wad or .pk3, then simply rename the file and change it's file extension to ".pk3", then place it in your skins folder.
4. Frequently Asked Questions
What if someone is using a custom skin I don't have?
Any person using a custom skin that you don't have will appear to be using the "base" skin (in MM8BDM's case it happens to be Megaman) UNLESS you have a skin that shares the same name as that skin, in which case that is the skin you will see.
What happens if I have two skins with the same name?
This does happen on occasion, as some skins are of the same character but are slightly (or even completely) different. In this case, the skin inside the file that is later alphabetically then the other file will have the skin name change to a default skin name ("SkinNo.XX" or something like that). It won't hurt your game in any way though, so feel free to have multiple skins with the same name!
This skin/music pack doesn't have a working link! Help!
Some skins are, unfortunately, no longer maintained for whatever reason it may be. If this is the case, you may be able to ask around for someone to send you the skin, just don't bug people too much or they won't want to help you!
What if I want to require people to have certain skins/music packs on my server?
DO NOT DO THIS, THIS ONLY ANNOYS PEOPLE AND DISCOURAGES THEM FROM COMING TO YOUR SERVER!!! Just don't do it. Seriously.
Well, I hope you learned something from this tutorial, although if you've been playing for a while you should probably know all this by now. Enjoy your skins and music!

A solid tutorial. Nice work, HD!
-
i followed this steps and i still dont see the skins i put in.. >.<
and yes i did make a skin folder in the skulltag client and put the skins inside.
-
I have my skins in the same place as the MM8BDM.exe and it works fine for me
-
Might I just add, that a lot of people using IDE have issues with the Skins folder. And I mean lots. I had this issue as well.
The issue can be fixed if you make a separate folder OUTSIDE the folder with all of your other wads with the Skulltag executable in it. If you have all of your other game Wads in with the EXE,
IT WILL NOT WORK. DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. IT WON'T.
So, just make a new folder with ONLY the skins folder inside, and the EXE inside as well. And then add that directory to IDE and it will work.

Doh! i forgot that i have the skins in a folder called "skins" without the quote's with my .EXE and thats why my skins work of course i use Doomseeker also
-
lol nvm.. it turns out that its only going to read the ones in the skin folder on my old MM8BDM folder.. for some reason.. e.O
-
Wait, are you saying you have more than one MM8BDM folder?
-
i did everything but i still dont found the custom skin at my player setup here what i did first i downloaded the skin them i moved it to the skin folder and renamed it with .pk3 what i did wrong? and also it was not a zip file
-
the name of the directory must be "skins" with "s".
Have you typed the name correctly?

Make sure your folder is named "skins" and not "skin".
(i.e. what Quint said)
-
yeah i typed skins with s but its not working
-
Make sure the skins folder is in your MM8BDM folder.
-
they are on mm8bdm folder i placed my doomseeker folder (a folder with wads) together they make any poblem if be together the skins?

Uh no, Knux is wrong.
Is the skins folder in the same folder as your zandronum.exe? If not, move it there.
-
the zandronum.exe is in mm8bdm folder...
-
Then place it there and make sure the skins folder is all-undercased without quotes and it should work automatically unless you have custom bots in the folder and then go to player setup (its in ether options/multiplayer screen) and look through it for the custom skins and do not use roll's dressing room thing to change skins as it does not pick custom skins

I tried loading weapons in the lastest patch but the game says unexpected error. how do i load weapons?
-
When pulling up the launcher for MM8BDM, there's an "add file" button. You locate the file you're loading weapons from and click open.
Weapons and maps should never go in your skins folder. If you have any of those files in that directory, move them to a different directory.
If you still can't run the game with the weapons pack, then that means the weapons are not compatible with the latest version of MM8BDM and if you can't patch them yourself then you're basically out of luck unless the original developer of the weapons wishes to fix them for the latest version.

I'm worried that I will just screw up at making the skin for a Character so Could it be ok if I could request someone to make me a skin?
