This is not a new maps update or anything, there were just a few bugs I wanted to address and there's been enough time without hearing a new one that I went ahead and did it.
I'm sure something else that I missed will show up but those will be hit in the map update part.

JAM PACK ONE

JAM PACK TWO

I'll put the super short changelog here for those interested.

The Falcon pack (aka jam2 that's always missing) was a very different type of mappack than the rest of jam focused on a bunch of people making maps in an incredibly short period of time. As such the quality in the pack is super questionable, updating them outside of that time limit kinda defeats the purpose of the jam existing in the first place, and the maps that were decent were already taken out of the pack and put into people's respective map packs (LEG06 is from Falcon originally for example). So it's just not included nor will ever be included with the rest of jam.

It's been a hot minute. There was a lot of work to bring the (large amount of) older maps to v6b stuff and to just make things nicer while we're at it. But we're here!

Now the school season really kicked people's asses this go around, so I'm hoping to have an update to Burger after the summer is over if people who weren't able to finish a map are still interested in making one. I'll try to update it around that time.

Anyway, as for files...

JAM PACK TWO

There are a few updates besides the new maps, namely a completely remade PBJ10 and EGG32 plus a brand new MOM25 and MOM26 (with the old MOM25 being pushed to MOM27 cause I'm a loser who likes certain maps closing the pack)

As for the map list of Burger maps...

Anyway, thank you all for waiting and hope you all enjoy! Should hopefully see another post here in a few months assuming new maps come on in!
or sooner if some hidden bug is still lurking under the radar

With V6B in our sights, I can now say the final deadline for absolute real this time is going to be Sunday, April 9th at 11:59pm est. This gives a month or so of time for people to get used to the new version and get stuff done!
See you all then!

Popping my head in here super quickly. This is something I've casually talked about here and there but I'm confirming the deadline is going to be pushed back. I don't have a definitive date as of right now because it's getting pushed back to account for work being done on V6b which is eating up a good chunk of time for several people.

Plus it means the jam packs and maps can have changes made in the version accounted for them. I'll have the new date once we have a read on the new version, but for now consider this extra free time. Or chill time if you wanna chill.

With the submission period behind us, it's time once again to go onto phase 2! Thanks to everyone who submitted a piece!

I'm always for giving way too much time than too little time because we all run BUSY LIVES and mapping for hit game megaman 8 bit deathmatch may not be the thing we have the most time for. So as of right now the deadline for map submissions will be Sunday, February 26th at 11:59est. I almost always tend to throw a week or so on as a deadline extension though, BUT DON'T COUNT ON IT
but it'll probably happen
BUT DON'T COUNT ON IT

Now for the actual mapping! Before I lay down some groundrules, I have to briefly talk about the words you all threw into the pool. Along with your two map pieces, everyone will receive a total of THREE words completely randomly (well mostly randomly, you couldn't get your own word, well in theory, knowing my luck one slipped through the cracks...). Of these three words, you must choose two of them and they have to be related to your map in some way, shape, or form. I am very loose with definitions here so if you come up with a stupid loophole to make your word viable, the only person you have to convince is me. And if it's something cheeky and fun, I'll almost certainly allow it.
Back in Paper Jam you only got two words and you had to use both, but that led to some very difficult to make combos, so with getting three instead, I think it offers more freedom for the mapper to actually make something work, even if rng frowns upon you with weird word choices. Though if you really wanted, you COULD use all three words in in your map, it's just not required.

Now, for the actual guidelines for the maps! Mostly a copy/paste job as always!

-Each mapper must use both map pieces given to them in their map. The piece must be in the playable space of the map at all times and not off in the background or something. However, the mapper is able to make plenty of changes to the pieces if they so desire. Common ways map pieces are changed include...

-Changing the height of parts.
-Changing jump stairs to walk stairs, the other way around, changing it to a ladder or a fan, changing a slope to not a slope or the other way around, etc. etc.
-Adding little things to fill up blank space.
-Changing curved walls to normal angles (or the other way around).
-Flattening out uneven terrain.
-Any textures, aesthetics, or anything like that in the piece.

There are certainly more options than just these, but these are the common ones I've seen in the past. The general rule of thumb is I should still be able to recognize the map piece when everything is said and done. If you have any question about editing a piece because you're unsure, just ask me and I'll let you know if it's legal or not.

-You must choose two of the three words you receive and have them be relevant to your map in some way, shape, or form. This rule is pretty lax but you can't just outright ignore what you get. Please inform me of the words you chose when you submit the map as well, so I know what to look for.

-You're allowed to use custom assets to your heart's content. As long as it's still 8-bit in nature, though I'm sure that goes without saying. But you're not obliged to stick with what's in the core game, though you can if you want!

-Likewise, the song in your map must be 8-bit in nature. If it's not, I have full authority to change the song. Likewise, try not to use a song that's already in the core game, I will also change it in that case. I'm a picky soul about music as well and I will ask for a song replacement if it actually is unpleasant to listen to. Do not worry about adding boss themes because they will be replaced when the pack is released. And while you don't need to worry about adding a map card, I will need the song information so I can do it myself at the very least.

-Some general mapping courtesies. Include at least 32 spawns, 16 Light Team Spawns, 16 Wily Team Spawns, 8 Cossack Team Spawns, and 8 King Spawns (if there's a big problem I can add the team spawns myself). Make sure to keep the lighting at an even 255 unless there's a really good reason for it to be something else (AKA don't make the whole map the default 192). Also make sure you lighting isn't 256, that's a common error that leads to lighting problems. If you have any sorta instant death such as pits, lava, etc. make sure to block the edges of the platforms with block monster lines.

-I will have to either ask for changes or outright reject a map if something in it causes the game to have difficulty running, either offline or online. Software mode is very unpopular in this world, but the map needs to be functional on it, though it doesn't have to be pretty.

-Remember that this is NOT a competition, nor is it a race to the finish line. Feel free to get input from other people if you're unsure about something, and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have any! If you're new to mapping or unsure on something, I would definitely recommend not waiting until the last second to make your map so there's time to get feedback/make potential changes if that needs to happen.

-While it's incredibly unlikely to happen, I hold full authority to reject a map for a failure to abide by the main rules or for any other very unlikely reason that might pop up. As such I hold authority to make slight edits to a map myself if for some reason the situation calls for it. Don't worry about this one too much, it's more of the "just in case" rule.

Well that's enough of that. Let's get on to the map piece and word assignments! Everything will be located under the spoiler tag below!
By the by, if anyone wants to be credited under a different name than what I have here, just let me know.

Cutstuff Mapping Jam 8: Jamburger

Hey all you people, it's Dr. Freeman and welcome to the eighth (or seventh kinda. falcon was weird) Cutstuff Mapping Jam! One day these things will end but today is not that day!

If you do not yet know what a mapping jam is, this is the paragraph where I talk about it! The mapping jam is just when the community comes together to make a bunch of maps. But Jam is not just something for veteran mappers to enjoy, in fact, I heavily encourage that if you've ever had an interest in making a map but Megaman 8-bit Deathmatch, that you give it a shot and make those mapping dreams come true! This is not a contest, and there are no winners. We're just getting everyone together to make some maps for fun. And because of that, any help that you may need can be given by anyone willing to do so. Personally I'm always down to help someone if they need it.

Jam is broken down into two separate phases. Phase 1 will be a couple of weeks long where everyone makes a small map piece (details below). The map piece will also act as one's sign up to the jam. Once the signup phase is completed, we move onto Phase 2 where everyone receives two map pieces and have to make a map using those pieces.

But that is not all! For there is one more gimmick returning to his jam, made a little more user friendly this go around. Along with your map piece assignments, each mapper will be given three words chosen from a pool (more on that later as well). Mappers must choose two out of those three words (i guess you can use all three though if you want) and those words MUST relate to the map you make in some way, shape, or form. Don't worry though. I'm all for bending the meaning of words to get what you want, in fact I find it funny if it makes sense to do so. But we will talk more about that when we reach phase 2.

Here are the guidelines for phase 1. It is mostly copy/pasted like it is every year!

(click to show/hide)

BUT, this time you need to give me more than just a map piece. I mentioned everyone will be given words from a pool for phase 2, but that pool will be made by you fellow mappers. Along with your piece please give me at least three words to put in the word pool. You will not get these words yourself! But they will be words other mappers have a chance of getting. I suppose you can give me more but please don't give me more than five for the sake of my sanity.

That said, there's a level of being reasonable when giving me words. Words like "Dark", "Bounce", "Fast", and "Ghost" are things that you can reasonably use in your life. But don't give me things that don't lend themselves well to mapping like "Broccoli" or something. Also nothing on the nose like "Hard Man" (which isn't even a word!!!). At the end of the day, while I want this to be a user made pool, I do reserve the right to deny any submitted words and ask for replacements or just replace them myself. And keep things PG.

As for the more specific guidelines for Phase 2, that's something we will talk about when we get there.

WITH THAT BEING SAID, as always these map pieces and words act as your sign up to the Jam. You will be unable to participate in Phase 2 without completing Phase 1. So the next couple weeks are your chance to sign up!

All map pieces and words are to be submitted to me either by PM on Cutstuff or over Discord (you can find me at Freems#2222). Submissions will close on Sunday, November 13th at 11:59 PM EST (A little longer than two weeks but with how my schedule is lined up, that's the best outcome for me to actually be able to set up Phase 2 on time) Once the deadline has been hit and everything is submitted, we will discuss the next part!

I believe I've covered everything I have to for the time being. If you have any questions about how anything works, don't be afraid to ask! And with that, it's time to jam!

We have made it. It's time for jam baybeeeeeeee

As I said at the start of this topic, Jam has been split into two files in order not to have one insanely huge file. So first of all, let's have...

Jampack-v5b
https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/download.php?file=8bdm_jampack-v5b.pk3

This has all of the existing Jam maps up to this point, plus a brand new PBJ12 and EGG35 (the previous EGG35 has been pushed to EGG36 just cause it's a great finale map)

As for the new Jamomma content...

Jampacktwo-v1a
https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/download.php?file=8bdm_jampacktwo-v1a.pk3

This contains all the brand new maps! So the map list is below!
(click to show/hide)

We will see when things update depending on if any gamebreaking bugs are found (which I wouldn't be surprised if a few slipped through) and I know some people are still working on maps for Jamomma, so we might see more in the future.

Regardless, I hope you all enjoy! And thank you so much for participating!

As per various request, I am upholding the time honored tradition and extending the mapping deadline by a couple weeks to help people finish things up. So the new deadline for maps will be 11:59 EST on Sunday, March 6th! Hopefully this helps everyone out just a little bit!

The submission period is over so let's get this show on the road!

As we learned last time, having an unreasonably long deadline period is for the better given all the insanity that is the holiday season and even just life itself. And I've always extended the deadline at the last second, so I'm going to do that prematurely this year and pull a repeat of last year's deadline. So maps will be due on 11:59 EST on Sunday, February 20th. That's a very long period of time but I do not want people feeling crunched for time or anything, and I'd rather sacrifice some time on getting the maps out if it means less stress for the mappers overall.

As for the maps itself, let's go over a few ground rules, though it's pretty much the same as always so I'll happily copy/paste most of it.

-Each mapper must use both map pieces given to them in their map. The piece must be in the playable space of the map and not off in the background or something. However, the mapper is able to make plenty of changes to the pieces if they so desire. Common ways map pieces are changed include...

And without further ado, the part everyone has been waiting for (or stressing if they already have ideas!) The map piece assignments! Names are in alphabetical order below.
If anyone wishes to be credited as something else by the way, just let me know.

Anyhow, here's the dropbox link with all the pieces!

Cutstuff Mapping Jam 7: Jamomma

Hello everyone, it's Dr. Freeman and welcome to the seventh (what the heck) Cutstuff Mapping Jam! Once you hit this much it feels like insanity (even though the second was quickly removed from the franchise...)
It's been a year since the last one was started and I've had multiple people request another one, so what the heck. Another year, another jam. No v6 development to the get in the way.

If you are unaware as to what a mapping jam is, allow me to explain! Basically, the community comes together and makes a bunch of maps. It's not just something for veteran mappers to enjoy either, if you've ever thought about making a map for this game, now's the chance to go for it! Newbies are more than welcome! It's important to note that this is not a contest, and it's more just something to make for fun for everyone to enjoy. And because it's not a contest, if you're ever unsure how to do something or want feedback on a map or map piece, always feel free to ask anyone. Personally I'm always willing to help if someone needs it.

As always, jam is broken down into two separate phases. Phase 1 will last a couple weeks and has everyone make a small map piece (more details below). This map piece will also act as one's sign up. Once all the map pieces are in and Phase 1 is over, we enter Phase 2 where every entrant is randomly given two people's map pieces and get to make a map with it! Life is busy, so there's going to be plenty of time (a few months) for Phase 2 to happen. Like before, there's not going to be any crazy gimmick outside of having to use the map pieces. While doing the same vanilla thing every time isn't the most exciting thing in the world when I type out the topic, it just feels better when the actual mapping comes around.

Here are the guidelines for Phase 1, absolutely copy/pasted because there's not really any point on changing what works!

(click to show/hide)

We'll talk about the rules for phase 2 once we get there (though they really are mostly the same!)

There is one more thing I'd like to discuss really quickly, which is the idea of splitting the jam packs starting from this one. There are 5 whole map packs in the current jam file and it's pretty huge. Bloating that file size anymore seems highly questionable so unless there are some major objections (which if you have them, I would like to hear it because if you have a good point I'm all ears) this Jam is going to mark the beginning of a new wad file.
THAT SAID, if anyone wants to edit their existing Jam Maps, please feel free and there is no restriction on doing that (and I'll be doing any bugfixes / adding extra maps I've received as well when release takes place). While the wads will likely be separated, the first pack will still be updated as needed.

As I said above, submitting a map piece is how you sign up and you won't be able to participate if you don't submit one! So the next two weeks are more or less just the sign up period.

All map pieces are to be submitted to me either by PM on Cutstuff or over Discord (you can find me at Freems#2222). Map piece submissions will close on Wednesday, November 10th at 11:59 PM EST. (a little awkward of a date but i blame my work schedule). Once we have hit the deadline and the map pieces are in, we will discuss phase 2!

That should be everything for the time being! If you have any questions whatsoever, do not be afraid to ask me! And here's to another jam!
