What's Megaman's future?
« on: June 08, 2017, 07:31:06 AM »
Megaman has departed from the abhorrent company Konami and (If I stand corrected) has moved to Nintendo, Which is a good thing since Konami is basically going into a downwards spiral. But here's my concern:

Is Nintendo going to do anything with the Megaman series? If they are, I just hope it wouldn't be just a half-assed game with Megaman's name slapped on it.

Edit: This is my first go at making a post.

Konami? Mega Man's a Capcom franchise, not Konami.

To everyone who thinks "Nintendo is a great place for Mega Man and that they would show him the love and respect he deserves."
F-Zero
Metroid (Pre-Forces, which many people argue is barely a Metroid game)
Starfox (Pre-Zero)

Ask yourself when the last serious release to any of those games were then try telling yourselfs again "Nintendo will show Mega Man the love and respect he deserves."

Capcom, not Konami.

Mega Man didn't leave Capcom - aren't they funding a new Mega Man cartoon?

The future of the Mega Man franchise? Expect a game after the cartoon starts airing. Probably based on the cartoon, but maybe not.

Honestly, I think what we could use is something new. While classic 8-bit style gameplay is nice, I think we could use something out of left field to give the franchise new life. I'm thinking a third-person shooter (not cover-based but more mobility-based) with modern graphics, but still sticking to the artistic style Mega Man is known for. I've had a few ideas for mechanics (such as a lock-on where you can aim with the right stick to be more precise, and in order to hit a moving target) and how the weapons would interact (like the Rolling Cutter normally going either a set distance or until it hits something before returning, and if you're locked on and aim to the side it boomerangs in a way to hit them on the side; useful against Sniper Joes).

While a traditional platformer would be nice of course, something like this could renew interest in the series.

Nintendo has not adopted Mega Man. I dunno who told you that.

So far capcom has left the franchise to stale aside from that new cartoon (which i really don't like so far). If anything they might make a game to promote that, but otherwise I don't see them doing much soon.

Megaman's future? I think the franchise is long dead, Capcom has been milking the cash cow for all it's worth for nearly 15 years, releasing nothing but compilations of the same old games over and over. How many times can they sell Megaman 2 to the public? It's almost expected that the next version will be yet another 8-bit style game from a second party like Inti Creates to cash in on MM2. They even screwed up the model when Megaman ended up in Smash Bros. - put the amiibo next to an official Megaman figure (e.g. not from the cartoons) and count the differences.

I think it more so depends on how the show goes and toy sales, they have guys crunching numbers in the back seeing how big of a profit margin they will get prior to okaying any future Megaman endeavors

And no doubt they will release it on disc in the US only like the last one and screw the rest of the world over with a digital-only release, unless by then they have woken up that Japan and the United States are not the only two countries on planet Earth. If you ever find that physical Legacy Collection copies become ridiculously rare 20 years from now, you will find that the vast majority of US copies have left the States and gone into the hands of collectors all around the world or are still factory sealed and in a graded hard plastic time capsule, complete with a four or even five figure price tag that no-one will ever pay. On a similar note, I regret having to sell my Australian copy of Super Luigi U now.

By the way, you DO know that Legacy Collection 1 was not actually made by Capcom right? It was a licensed game by a small company, hence it not being hugely available. Legacy Collection 2 IS being made by Capcom.

Small companies like Phoenix Games had absolutely no trouble releasing millions upon millions of (crappy) games all over Europe, UK, Australia and New Zealand. There is no excuse whatsoever to limit physical release to one or two countries only, they're only shooting themselves in the foot.

If what I read is correct, Legacy Collection 2 has Megaman 7, 8, 9 and 10. Is that all they could squeeze onto a 25GB or 50GB BD-ROM?

Also, Sony and Microsoft consoles only?
