Title: Looking for missing wads? Check here first.
Post by: Ivory on January 10, 2012, 09:46:25 PM
Checking the servers out? Wanted to join that popular server? But oh no! I'm missing wads and I don't use Doomseeker (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=728) or IDE (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2798)! What do I do?
Check this thread of course! It has the links to take you where you want to go.

I updated the Newcomer thread with this thread.

Hopefully this stops most useless questions.

What about AwNet? :ugeek:

That's hosted by Ken fairly often (and soon Human Destroyer).

Kudos, Ivy.

Considering that most of the new people comes to the actual CutStuff blog, maybe announcing this thread somewhere there would help a little?

I saw a server with a .wad called TheHunters-v1a.wad.
I tried a google search and a scan of Cutstuff and couldn't find it.

Obviously, there are others with this .wad, because there were about seven people on it.
That's a little too much for testing, imo.

Anyone know where I can get this?

A lot of the wads used Wadhost as their uploader, so they need mirrors before anyone can use their stuff, unfortunately.

I've put up some Mediafire links for Roboenza, and I'll try and do it for some more of them.

Would it be possible to add my Force Beam Frenzy mode to the list? (Mediafire download, not wadhost)

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2773 (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2773)

I know it's not the most hosted mode (i'm one of the very few that ever hosts it :/ ) but people really do enjoy it and it might increase awareness.....

Post by: Gumballtoid on February 04, 2012, 09:32:29 PM
seriously, mediafire will easily make up for wadhost. it's fantastic, and the few wads i've made, i host on mediafire. after the fall of megaupload and wadhost, mediafire is the light at the end of a dark tunnel, yes?
Title: Re: Looking for missing wads? Check here first.
Post by: King Dumb on February 04, 2012, 09:42:31 PM
Not exactly. WadHost, of course, was very much valued because it was automatically (and by default) searched by DoomSeeker's WadSeeker. Additionally, Mediafire has unsightly adds and plenty of pitfalls for virus downloads that can trip up tthose inexperienced in the 'process' of downloading files from the internet. Also, I'm not sure, but Mediafire may also limit downloading speed.

Hopefully, the plan for WadHost's rebirth comes to fruition. In the meantime, perhaps some of the other sites searched by WadSeeker by default can be utilized. I'm not sure how many of them are up and running, but it's worth a look. the list of these sites can be found in the WadSeeker Options section of DoomSeeker, for those interested.

EDIT (bah premature enter hit):
I also would suggest making this an announcement or placing it in multiple forums. A lot of new players don't know the boundaries of the subforums (despite the pretty intuitive titles). I know people need to learn to search around a bit, but something like this is too valuable not to place as prominently as possible, if you ask me.

why the fuck can't I find the original roboenza

some guys decided to host it and now I can't find a link not named wadhost

and yes I've tried searching both on Google and through here

EDIT: Found it. Apparently I have to search the specific wad's FILE name as opposed to its REAL PEOPLE name.

Still, would be nice if you added it to the list "just in case".

"private" kinda gives away the fact that you aren't gonna be able to find it. When you see that just know they are in the middle of working on the wad for a new version.

This isn't so much for a missing wad as it is me trying to ID a wad. There's a gamemode someone was making where you could fuse two weapons together to make an all new weapon. Last I played it they only had the MM1 weapons done. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Can someone tell me what it was called?

This thread hasn't been updated in quite some time, but usually the mods people play can be found on the first page of the Projects forum. I'll go a little further, though, and share the link. It's called Xover Weapons, which is in the thread called Stardust's Workshop. Here's the link, check the second post to find out more about Xover Weapons: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=6160 (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=6160)

This thread is super outdated and no longer used.
These days, people usually go to https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/wads.php (https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/wads.php) and hit the filter button at the middle top left. From there, you can type in whatever wad you need and if it publically exists, it'll usually pop up.
