W.I.P Forum / Re: Recreation - A Map Project

Interesting idea!

I've had thoughts in the past where I'm playing another FPS and I wonder how well it would translate to MM8BDM. This seems like a good avenue to test these thoughts out.

Anything Goes / Re: New to the Skinning

There aren't any pk3-based templates that you can insert sprites into. It's not a bad idea, but it would still require a lot of work after the fact, to the point where you may as well just start the skinning process from scratch yourself. Zandronum doesn't like when multiple sprites loaded into the game have the same name, for example. Skins using the same sprite names will be given a junk name instead, and can't be seen by other players.

By instructions, do you mean Pegg's Tutorial? If you haven't taken a look there yet, that's where I'd start.

If you've already looked there, maybe you could give us more of an idea as to what's wrong. I'm gonna ask some things as shots in the dark, feel free to diagnose at your own discretion.

Do you have sprites for all directions, and all poses? (X1, X8X2, X7X3, X6X4, X5 - where X is a letter from A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H)
Did you Modify their Gfx Offsets? (Monster)
Is your skin file placed inside the "skins" folder?
Is the skins folder in the same directory as your Zandronum .exe?
When you run MM8BDM, do you get any errors? (These would show up around the end of boot-up for a split second, so you might wanna have printscreen ready)

Hope we can help solve your problems!

I figure I should probably write something here too, huh?

It's been an honor to help work on this so far and I can't wait to help contribute more to this pack in the future!
Feedback, ideas, anything of the sort helps the both of us out a lot, so please make sure to tell us whatever comes to mind!

Help & Editing / Re: HUD missing, what do i do?

Hey, it's okay. These forums aren't an instant messaging program, and it takes people a bit to respond. Traffic here is low, and while people will get to your message eventually, it might be a bit.

Anyways, on to the point of this thread. My best bet is that you pressed +, which "zooms the screen in" for Doom-based engines like Zandronum, which MM8BDM is in.
Press -, and that should bring your health bar back. If you want, you can press - again to try MM8BDM's horizontal health bars. Completely optional.

+ and - should be all you need.

EDIT: Ninja'd, thank you RockmanShadow.

If you're motivated, I'll bite and see what I can chip in with.

To try and make a megapost with all the resources I'm aware of that that might be useful:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Linnie's uploaded some enemy sprites here for map props: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=5853.0
Geno's uploaded the robot master sprites here: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=5853.msg251409#msg251409
Shinryu uploaded all assets necessary for Whirlpool Man here: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=7401.0
Jax made some weapons, which I think you were using for your test: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=10822.0
Geno made Comet Woman's skin: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=4207.0
Linnie made Yoyo Man and Jet Man's skins: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=5787.0
FTX made Prototype Zero, Whirlpool Man, and Tank Man's skins: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=4818.0
Giantmega made a music pack here: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=4773.0
Raze made Trinitro Man's skin here: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=9967.0
Laggy Blazko made Rainbow Man's skin here: http://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=2358.msg58085#msg58085

I could swear there were tilesets uploaded somewhere too (Jack Corvus?) but I couldn't find them at a quick glance.
I also haven't tested these links at all so I hope they work but if they don't, oops lol

I started a Tank Man map about a year ago but didn't make much of any progress at all with it - this summer I'll pick it back up and see what I can do with it.

I personally have kinda middling opinions of MMU but would love to give mapping for one of the stages a shot someday. MMU has style in abundance, and none of my complaints about the source game would have to apply for a couple of deathmatch maps.

Getting a full expansion complete is extremely difficult, but still doable! Rozark mentioned RF and Dos Reborn, but even before that came Rockman no Constancy and Mega Man Powered Up. The precedent exists, it's just no one's really gotten it down to a science how to keep the ball rolling from project start to project end for the other projects.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Mega Man V Remade

I've listened to the playthrough a couple of times by this point, and Wily Star stuns me every single time. The rest of the covers are pretty sweet, too - I love how Mercury and Saturn in particular turned out!

Great job again, looking forward to hearing your future projects.

They just never ended up getting made. They're really big guys, and we didn't have a lot of manpower.
If decent skins showed up, it wouldn't be too hard to add them in.

As someone distant from this (assumed dead) project, what's held me back from being interested in bringing it to life in MM8BDM is the surprising lack of original assets. The robot masters and weapons are well defined, but the stages are bizarrely unmemorable. Like you've said, tilesets are largely interchangeable between maps and the music in these stages are directly ripped from Mega Man and Bass - oftentimes in ways that don't fit the robot master at all.

I'd imagine working on skins or weapons or classes for RMF2 would be fascinating, but from a map perspective it's a wasteland. The robot masters and weapons probably wouldn't have to change much at all, but nothing short of a total replacement would get me to work on RMF2 maps.
