I'm very, very, suprised noone has mentioned this yet. In the title map, it says Dr. Wily was defeated for the 6th time. Wasn't Wily jailed at the end of Mega Man 6? He was then only freed at the beginning of Mega Man 7 by the first four Robot Masters of that game. It can't have been after the 6th time.

What do you think?

MM4 - Defeated
MM5 - Defeated
MM6 - Defeated

V1 takes place between MM6 and 7. That's where the title map plots starts and is where the second robot tournament was held. Chapter 7 was included after Wily being stopped or something like that.

But yeah, he was defeated 6 times.

I'll go further than the fangame argument: It's classic series Mega Man. If you want a cohesive story that doesn't end with "Oh, I guess Wily went away again", you're in the wrong series. The fangame argument just makes it even less of a deal.

Actually, it makes PERFECT sense. The tournament was held by Mr. X as a thank-you to Mega Man for saving the world and finally jailing Dr. Wily after the events of MM6. That's why Dr. Light was surprised to see Yellow Devil attack after the MM1 bracket of the tourney, because everyone believed Wily to still be in prison.

Though I must admit, I would LOVE to see some storyline continuations for the MM7 / MM8 chapters. Yes, I am the one guy on the entire website who likes the story, and I'd appreciate it if someone were to continue it.

You ain't alone. I love a good story in games, and I'm especially glad that Single Player mode has one too. It makes the game so much more meaningful and it feels as if you are having a good purpose rather than just making other robots explode.

Canon there WAS no Mr. X, it was Wily the entire time, probably an alias to make money to fund his robot production. Wily went missing after he was kicked out of collage and wasn't seen or heard of again until the events of Megaman 1, probably because he "became" Mr. X.
