Has anyone actually had ideas of bringing in new players? I am very sad to see the playerbase quite low and I am only seeing the same players. Also, I am wanting to play vanilla but unfortunately I can't find anyone who will play (though the servers are up and good).

I am willing to try and promote this game, but I am not just not sure how to go about doing it.

Sorry if this actually belongs in the feedback section.

Well there is a way to bring in new players however for the players to actually stay and enjoy the game the community has to improve there conduct in which means Don't troll the new players. Spreading the word to your associates is one way .

In which case, everyone ought to help out new players when they can. Treat 'em well, teach 'em the ins-n'-outs, make 'em want to keep playing. Hell, if I didn't have buddies around here to keep the game interesting, I'd be long gone. Unfortunately, I've also witnessed numerous occasions where players troll newbies for fun, and I must say, I certainly don't approve of it.

On another note, we could get some people to record videos showcasing popular maps, weapons, classes, game-modes, ect. and post them on YouTube. That would probably help out a lot.

We have vanilla servers, but 9 times out of 10 it's ALWAYS deathmach, and unfortunatly DM isnt the most newbie friendly game mode with all these tournaments going on now (the same person winning 10+ matches in a row that treats all games like a tournament, they don't know how to tone it down every once in a while to give someone else a chance). The best thing that would help is to host more team games, not only will it help them play better with others helping them, it will also bring down the aggressive competitive feel the game has helping them make new friends more easily (have you wondered why I'm never buddy buddy with anyone?)

Neither is Classes TLMS as I started there. I spend most of my time now watching other fights (even when I've taken the advise of other more experienced players). At least in Deathmatch you get a chance to get back in the fray and do something. Though I agree with you: team games are less competitive in feel as opposed to clear Death Match modes. Sadly enough, I saw a Vanilla CTF, but only one person in there (no one ever joined and he left). that and i jumped in a couple of open Vanilla rooms and no one ever joined (which also made me sad).

@Gumball: Yeah I noticed the lack of videos. The only problem I am having currently is that my current recorder doesnt' seem to have very much compatibility with Skulltag (the videos come out great but recording in full screen I have issues with frame rate (even though in ZDoom had no issues with Final Doom recording I made the other day). If you have a good suggestion of a video recorder I am all ears so I can make a couple and upload them to my Youtube channel.

As a n00b myself I've noticed that this community (at least the guys I've seen from the forums) are okay. Though I can't seem to befriend anyone (I think it's more so my shy nature as opposed to the community itself). That and I don't see very many new players so I thought I might try something else out besides spamming my friends with "Hey come play MM8bitDM!" Because I feel like this game is worth it.

Both of these are great points
Though sometimes there are people you just don't want to let win, Stijn due to just horrible sportsmanship. Not winning is no reason to start swearing the server out.

"where players troll newbies for fun"

So true (for all the FPS/doom like).....I'm never mad with the new players....except if they troll.
We need to try to motivate them for this game, cause they can become good players, and good friends. :)

Everybody begin from a start :?

Yeah, this game does need to be publicized more, but you should be happy- when you type in "Mega Man 8" in Google, it overshadows Mega Man 8 itself!

Maybe that's because you visit mm8bdm related sites more frecuently than mm8 sites and google knows that.
