Actually, that was true for the canon side as well.

No, thats only in the US backstory. In the Japanese backstory they knew each other from collage but never worked together (until Megaman 3). Wily was expelled for his views and vanished until MM1.

1) This is the SECOND tournament held AFTER MM6, not the first that was prior to MM6.
2) and as stated earlier, Mr. X was supposed to be Dr. Wily.
3) This isn't canon, this isn't going to magically fit in the timeline.

Well, Megaman 7 takes place 6 months after 6, right?
MM8BDM takes place 1 year after 6.

Mr. X is Dr. Wily in disguise. Thus, there is no real Mr. X.

MM8BDM introduces the "real" Mr. X persona, a completely fabricated character, separate from Dr. Wily.

Maybe Wily escaped during the ending of MM6, and the real Mr. X was rescued from being kidnapped by Wily, who passed off as him to gain access to the MM6 tournament winners.

Or maybe Wily was actually put in jail for his crimes (which would follow MM6's ending). the real Mr. X was rescued, and shortly after that Wily somehow broke out and challenged Light to enter and win the 8BDM tournament, completely ignoring the events of MM7, or actually rewriting them to fit in the game's setting.

Or maybe no one gives a fuck because it's the least important issue in this community.
