Title: Super Mario Maker
Post by: LlamaHombre on September 13, 2015, 06:22:42 PM

This game came out earlier this week, and I've been having a blast with it.
For the sake of having an easy archive for users and stages, though, I figured a central thread around the game would be nice.
So pretty much, post about any levels you've made (include codes too), post about things you've encountered in 100-Mario Challenges, give critique for posted levels, talk about things you like/hate about levels, etc. etc. Show some support for other users!

I'll keep a updated list below with easy links to people's level galleries, so just keep a post with your levels handy and I'll make sure you're added to the list.

so I played a bunch of stuff

I didn't like most of Mike's levels at all. The majority of them had the recurring theme of "do this section over and over and over and over" as well as "if you make one mistake, even if it's not immediately obvious, you lose". Don't Wake Him Up kind of led you on with the level title, but Bowser's Ultimate Scheme is completely dripping with this design flaw. The concept was neat and all, but when you cake the very beginning of the level in powerups, the first couple of attempts are always going to end up useless.

That's bad. Never do that. I shouldn't have to play 80% of the level and then die before actually playing the level.

Llama's earlier two levels are pretty spotty, but his third (Ultramarine Ambush!) was great. The beginning of the level was calm and peaceful, allowing the player to get their bearings with the stage design and the gimmick that was present... but as you move through the stage, enemies and obstacles start to get more and more hectic. You're given time to learn how the stage works before having to deal with it all, and even when things get crazy, the player is still given ample room to move around each hazard, with a power-up here and there to help ease the burden. It's not an easy level by any means, but it doesn't drag you to a dimly-lit back alley and mug you for lunch money.

Freeman's levels are... I don't know, I guess they're fun? They're not too long or overly complicated, just simple slices of whatever that are just tough enough to avoid being mindless. I had fun playing them, I wouldn't mind playing them again, I'd recommend them to others. Aside from one section near the end, Chomps n' Platforms felt like a "core" Mario level. I like seeing stuff like that. Good job.

I'll play more levels later or something.

Most of my stages are pretty gimmick, yeah, I like adding alternative objectives into them. I don't intend to pump out extremely well balanced levels all the time.

Anyway try some of my others if you want, they aren't all like that.

The first set of levels for Super Mario Bros. 30 is complete. Won't be doing World 2 until I get more upload slots, unfortunately.

If nobody else posts before I'm done, I'll edit this post with more reviews.

Updated my gallery post (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=10019#p324168) with Asteroid Belt Boogie and Spookhouse.  Also took down Observation and Flood Zone since they came out poorly and didn't really pick up any stars, so they were really just eating up my upload slots.

Bowser Has a Blast:
193f-000-0037-4FFF
My first submission after discovering a Bowser in a Koopa Clown Car tosses Bomb-Ombs. To be honest this level would've been better if Bowser's fireballs could be made to travel faster and not phase through solid walls. I should've also had a small section where you can figure out that you can bounce away a Bowser in a Koopa Clown Car if you repeatedly jump into the Clown Car (even into the propeller, which hurt you in SMW but doesn't here), plus reset pipes if you do kill one of the Bowsers. I may decide to make a revised version to ease up the difficulty a bit sooner or later, with other enhancements.

I'll probably do a sequel (Junior gets Shell Shocked) with better level design.

SMB1esque:
09A4-0000-003D-EC46
A level made in the style of a basic early SMB1 level (with a bit of SMB Special), with simple tile placements.

Xtreme Beetle Surfing Hour:
930A-0000-0044-447E
More of a "fun" level than one meant to be challenging, though I think people may have been mislead with the third and final part of the level.

Well I made some levels too. The first two aren't super good, being my first two levels (one being an edit of the tutorial level and the other being the first one made from scratch, but the others I feel mostly satisfied with.

In addition to adding Mr. X's 13th stage, "Magikooped Up," I've also included links to the youtube videos of his stages in case you want to see what you're getting into before you play it.
They're just links instead of embedded videos mostly to save space in that spoiler. May change formatting later idk

Oh neat, I just picked this up recently.  I'll be making stuff, and I'm sure my roommates and neighbors will be making some stuff too (be it of quality or... not).  I'll post the stuff of playable quality here.  I'll also probably just end up following all of your guys uploads.

I essentially doubled the amount of levels in my post, adding six new ones I had made somewhat recently

i have also been stuck at having 99 stars for a long time now, wow

Updated with three new levels, and a new code for "Submap Shuffle"
Not that there was anything changed in it, I just temporarily removed it so that I wouldn't run out of upload space (since I recently smashed the 150 star point, I re-uploaded due to having more room)

I updated my list.

Spin challange got removed and was replaced by Thomp Tower Destruction and added a new level called Airship in a hurry.
Title: Rozark's SMM Course List
Post by: Rozark on December 01, 2015, 02:20:37 AM
I too, like these other people, make courses. If you're going to try and play through all of them, currently I'd recommend "Mario's Return to Hugeland" first as that seems to be a comfortable first step into my more difficult design style. Alternatively, just follow the difficulty scalings as they're pretty accurate. Notify me if a problem arises. I silently update this list so check back every now and then for new courses.
