I am starting to think we're taking it a bit too far. Being competitive in this game...isn't really that much fun. I think we should just let this die down and let people keep to themselves their opinions of who the best are.

It is unfortunate that competitive people often mix up with non-competitive people. I have to admit I'm one of the competitive types. There those who ruin the image of competition by invading it onto those who aren't.

Gratz OJ!

Although I think a set format should be added in this tournament.
Such as a specified frag and time limit.

Some maps should also be addressed as either tournament legal or not.

Just 16 contestants is just not enough IMO. Lot's of exciting and successful tournaments happen to be huge. Though I must admit that there needs to be a "friendly number" of players to make things work, but keeping the numbers low is not the best idea.

There could be like the Round of 32 or the Round of 36 if there are enough people joining, or even preliminary rounds too. In short, keep your mind open for these ideas for a better tournament in the future.

Ok, seriously, who is willing to actually change every one of the maps so it's suitable for tournament play? Besides, if they're 1 on 1, it matters not, since trying to avoid people only delays the matches. Even then, I do agree some maps should be omitted. Not all maps will be played at once any way, unless we got a lot of matches. A few off the top of my head:

Centaur Man
Quick Man
Gyro Man
Crystal Man

Basically, if there are any hazards that might stop players from quickly reaching each other, it should be omitted. Elec Man is fine, because the only hazards are in rarely travelled hallways, anyway.

I kinda doubt anyone would change all the maps, unless they were some die-hard fan. Big maps are a no-go for duels like Centaur Man or Crystal Man, but say if it's a 4v4 TLMS it is acceptable in my opinion. Some maps are doomed from the start to ever be tournament playable like Quick Man's.

Not only hazards, but also easily abused areas like Mr. X's Fortress where people can camp at the Magnet Missile can prevent the map to be
tournament playable.

I don't think Duel is a good idea because it can also depend on luck. Who will be the first to reach the weapon that will decide the match? *coughtimestoppercough*

I prefer a 1 on 1 LMS, which forces players to consider what choices they get with the weapons they are provided, plus it puts weapons like Gravity Hold out of the equation.

This is when some maps are not suitable for tournament play. Maps could be changed into more tournament playable status or they could be omitted altogether.

As of now, more and more people are being more more elitist. Sad fact, but true. Since nobody has solid evidence to prove whose the best or second best and so on, this poll at best is a popularity contest among good and skilled players.

Now if people REALLY wanted know the truth of superiority, then competitions can be held to proves things. As a follower of the Korean professional Starcraft Brood War scene, I am limited on what I can say about professional FPS scenes. FPS competitions can stretch in the variety of fields that can be competed in, as opposed to Starcraft (where it's mainly 1v1 instants). For example, one person be untouchable in TLMS, yet crumble in Duels. Now score systems then can keep track of whose the best on which setup, and there could be some other systems that could keep track of "overall" scores. That to me sounds like the fairest way to compare players competitively.

Now this paragraph is filled with wishful thinking. Now this game has some potential to grow into a professional Esport if it has support. First of all it'll be needed to be accepted by people to consider it as a worthy game to be competitive over. To achieve that, this is where popularity and game balance plays a big role in becoming an acceptable competitive Esport. Second, players that are willing to play the game competitively are going to be the ones that the general public will accept as the best players of the game. Now if you look at Starcraft for a moment in Korea (and other countries as well), Starcraft has balance and the popularity which allows the game to be acceptable as a "competitiveable" game. Of course the players play a big role to run the scene. As a bonus the players are usually sponsored by some big company and they are paid to play Starcraft. Wouldn't that be nice if you are paid to play a game that you love? As a my last tidbit of wishful thinking, I believe that can be possible with the above and all with good organization.

Lastly back to the poll. I'm kinda surprised to not see my name it there, but oh well. I guess that's what I get for not playing all the time. I am also rather surprised that my clan mate Muzaru is on it.
Go Muz! Do your best!

As for voting I would vote for...
Lonewolf
Celebi
Rose

I wish I could put my name put there and not vote for myself at the same time.
