I demand Halloween Man from Hard Hat 3

I was actually beginning to wonder if someone would drum up a CastleVania stage/expansion pack.  What with all the weapons we're about to get, it wouldn't be *too* hard, right?

I don't have anything to contribute for the moment; mostly because I don't do anything until I know what I'm supposed to do.

Changed it to where Megaman,CV,and GNG are allowed.

Though read the title post.

I'll..think of something. I know there's something for me to make.

Also, I could easily make a Kyoworn skin if you want.

Oh yeah, I was bored again, soooo...

In case anyone was actually considering my strikethrough suggestion, look what I made!
I took Hard Hat 3's design for HH and Halloween-Man, and the original Met, and redesigned him in 8-Bit.  The colors are authentic--except for the fact that there's more than four present.
Soooo...yeah, just thought I'd leave this here in case anyone wanted them.

I think we could also have a Hazeman skin from Megaman Forever too. Maybe not, but I'm just thinking since his stage design and theme....y'know....

You hate this game
Woah woah woah, now slow down just here, lad. I've never said I hate this game. Hell, I like it. It's a pleasant change of pace compared to most other FPSes (and games in general) out there, while still staying true to its roots. It breaks tradition, yet not. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the game itself. Now on the other hand.

Quote from: "CHAOS_FANTAZY"
You hate this community
And I can be blamed for this? Take a good look. We have new people vanishing as quickly as they appeared because of trolling and general unpleasantness rampant on the servers. People are more interested in petty additional eyecandy and childish tomfoolery added to the game rather than the game itself, and I can't remember the last time I had an intelligent conversation with someone on these here forums. I love the game, I hate the people who play it.

Quote from: "CHAOS_FANTAZY"
You hate our creations
Alright, let's review your creations here, then.
[*]A zombie horde mode that doesn't capture the feel of an actual zombie horde mode and completely misses the point.
[*]A community map pack that's turned from "general map pack" into "get your own shoddy map onto the server that hosts the above mode" pack.
[*]Vanilla Classes were okay, because, like above, they broke tradition yet stuck to it, in relation to MM8BDM. Then came Cutstuff Community Classes and Touhou Classes, which just made me facedesk. Even the GvH classes, while a decent tribute to Mike's previous projects, really doesn't belong here.
[*]Skins upon skins upon skins based on the most laughable things ever. (There's a goddamn lamp to start with, I won't continue with an extended list because I have more points to adress.)

Besides the modes? Let's look at all the fan-creations. Hell, let's take this "Halloween man" as an example. How does his design, in any shape or form, relate to anything Halloween related? Not to mention mostly the entire fanbase takes their creations like they're new gods upon this world and we are not worthy of questioning them.

Quote from: "CHAOS_FANTAZY"
Why the fuck are you even here?
Quite frankly? I've been wondering this myself lately. But besides looking after both PoweredUp, RocPack, several other projects I'm a part of, as well as writing for the MM8BDM blog?

I'm not going to argue, but I just thought I'd mention this.
Halloween-Man's stage starts in a rainy forest late at night.  The enemies consist of Skeleton Joes, Battons, those Mummy enemies from Pharaoh-Man's stage...essentially everything that got into last year's Halloween skin pack.  His abilities include creating a phantom of himself that also launches attacks and the ability to summon skulls.  Oh, yes, and his weapon resembles Shade-Man's.
So essentially, he's all the generic things that pop up in your mind when you think about Halloween.

Anyways, I just thought I'd bring him up, because he's from a well-known well-done fangame.  And because he's, y'know, Halloween-Man.  Oh, well, there are other ways I could get this done.
EDIT:  No wait, I messed up.  Halloween-Man's ability turns him intangible so your attacks can't hurt him.  Still sorta has to do with phantoms, though...

Post by: Korby on August 29, 2011, 02:34:06 AM
While I agree that Halloween Man should not be made for this pack, I do have to say this:

Keep in mind, some other robot masters don't look like anything they're supposed to represent. For example, if Bomb Man wasn't carrying a bomb with him everywhere, you would have no idea what he's supposed to be other than a guy with a mohawk.

I had a idea for a game mode, 1 player becomes shademan, he has his bite attack, and his stare attack (uses rechargeable ammo), the rest of the players have items like, a sun lamp (or something) that protects a small area from the vampire players for 5 seconds, a wildcoil gun (just holds off shademan and damages battons players), and a electrified stake. The players bitten by the shademan, or others become battons (or preferably succubattons), and you have to hold off the vampires till sunrise, or manage to defeat the shademan player with the stake, when you become a vampire, you cannot cross running water or go into areas with a solar lamp.

How dose that sound to you guys, a fun game mode, meh, or what?

That sounds really cool! I didn't exactly understand it all....would there be a difference between the bitten vampires and the original? Or am I just getting this all wrong? From what I understood sounds super fun though! And hard to do.

Post by: Korby on October 09, 2011, 03:41:09 AM
I didn't get very far, but I did finish the Shademan class. Essentially, he'd have an infinite ammo noise crush, more HP than anyone else, and fly if you held fire down. Everyone was supposed to fight against Shademan, and that's where the problems of basing it on Roboenza came in

I was making sure there were no altfires as well, to try and shoot for an official side-mode.

Reminds me more of Saxton Hale mode of TF2 more, really. An entire team against one guy who has a crapton of HP and can kill everyone easily...Quick, someone make that for MM8BDM.

Ivory was working on one at some point. Transformed classes not being able to have more than one weapon killed it.

And now we wait for Jaxof to make it.

That sounds really cool! I didn't exactly understand it all....would there be a difference between the bitten vampires and the original? Or am I just getting this all wrong? From what I understood sounds super fun though! And hard to do.

basicly it's like this

(Alpha vampire)Shademan
Match ends when shademan dies or when sun rises
has infinite health unless hit by stake
knocked back by wild coil gun
killed instantly by stake weapon
can bite others turning them into battons and also has his paralyzing gaze
can't pass running water or go into solar lamp areas

(bitten) Succubatton
"dies" for about 30-60 seconds but they will come back at full health (pain state not really a death)
has little health but they also fly at all times
damaged by wild coil gun and can be "killed" by it temporarily
can be "killed" temporarily by stake
can bite others turning them into battons too
can't pass running water or go into solar lamp areas

(survivors)
becomes battons when bitten
only weapons are a stake(melee), wild coil(ranged), a solar lamp item

(is typing this up while sleepy so some of it might not even make sense)
I'm also making a map for this too, it's a small ghost town area, the water thing can be easily done via filters like the megaman soccer mod, or the pokemon DOOM mod (a invisable wall pushes you back from the grass unless you have the pokedex), the sun can easily be done in the same manner as Ringman X's skybox, just have to set the shademan player to have a countdown timer and have it run out at the time the sun comes up

Depending on the amount of ammo around it, dumping a WTank somewhere isn't always that bad.

Speaking of graveyards, I have to see if I can mess around with the texture offsets of the tombstones and spell Shade Guy with them

I'm afraid the stock tombstone textures only have "SCF", "AOW", "WDI", "W.D" and "D.B" to work with. You can make custom textures based off of them, although you'll only have enough room for three letters.

Since we'll have Castlevania and Ghosts n Goblins, they should have their own stages...

The Castlevania stage I imagine, would be seperated by two small castle structures connected by a balcony area with a long bridge (like stage 3 and stage 6), the garden from stage 4 at the ground floor with the entrance gate and statues from the intro and beginning of stage 1, and ofcourse, a lower route through the caves and sewers.

The two castles would be based one the first 3 stages of the game, while the latter would be made up of the last 3 stages.

Castle 1 Has the Entrance Hall and Sewer entrance from Stage 1 with the upper floor being the Chapel and torture chamber from Stage 2 with an outside balcony based on stage 3.

Castle 2 would have the corridor before Frankensteins Monster as it's entrance chamber with Frankensteins Room acting as an entrance to the sewers. The upper floors would be the Dungeons and Art Room from Stage 5 with the balcony being based on the first part of stage 6.

BUT

The bridge connecting the upper part of the castles have the ClockTower in the middle, inside their are lots of the cogs and such, but also a sidepath that takes you to the famed stairs leading up to the Castle Keep with Dracula's Chamber.

The weapons could be the closest equals to the Castlevania Weapons we can get and ofcourse... Rain Flush being a substitute for... HYDRO STORM~

----------------------

The Ghosts n Goblins stage would be more complex and open. The game takes place in the Infernal Demon Village and would have a village like feel. The central part of the stage would be a town square, perhaps with the iconic tombstones, but around would be some houses from Stage 2, and exits out of the town that are closed of, but outside you could perhaps see the ice towers from stage 2 and the forest from stage 1.

The Square would have a balcony like area with some stairs going down to a port like area with stone walls from Stage 3 and 4 and maybe another house at the tiny port.

At the square, there is also a large castle looking building which is a large chamber with looks from Stage 5 & 6, and finally, a small room resembling Astaroth's Final Boss chamber. That small room would lead to a small graveyard just outside that leads to the square aswell...

...

Maiby I should draw out a map instead... :S

You could send your map to Ice-Ix and Ivory to have their comments on it, Beed.

Ok, here's the map idea for the Ghosts 'n' Goblins map. The Castlevania map will have to wait since I can't get it right. :S

(click to show/hide)
[/spoiler]

Note: The area on the top down map with the thicker lines are were the fighting will be, the rest are just for the backdrop.

Also, I'm not 100% sure about the ice pillairs placement. I think it would be cool with some mountain or island there, maiby it could be the Mountain entrance to Stage 3, I dunno, but the Stage 2 Ice Towers could be in front of the Port area, seen in the horizon...

It wasn't mapped, so he can't really critique it.

Perhaps you should attempt to make it into one using Doom Builder.

Well mapping, like a lot of things, is something you have to practice at before you get any good at it.

It could have done with more stages. There was only one, and it was mine.

Oh, and in the BOTHalloween.wad in the zip, the botchat definitions in the BOTINFO are wrong, which means they won't say anything like intended.

Technically, the Halloween expansion from last year didn't even have a stage, and the Christmas one only had one stage.

Because it's Castlevania.

Well yeah, but still they couldn't be resized to be more normal while the rotations and such were made?  and why isn't this all in one .wad?

Probably because Blaze didn't have the patience to put it all in one wad.

Also having skins built into a wad tends not to be a good idea, especially if you don't want to load that wad up every time you want to play.

Fair enough.

And I don't mean to come off too harshly... it's cool you guys even attempted this.

I didn't see it as harsh at all.
I wonder if we'll get two maps for Christmas, to continue the +1 map trend.

To be honest, this type of holidays don't get the attention it needs. I mean, maps aren't even played and thus forgotten. Even the interest of this community of contributing has dropped enough. The only thing I see being used are skins, while maps needs to be relocated in map packs, such like Christmas holiday in X pack.
