Skins & Bots etc / CutTunes - Released!
« on: April 17, 2012, 09:45:40 PM »
Quote
I could always make a music pack with it and random other songs I've (and maybe others? That sounds like a good idea. Note to self: talk to llama and thatguy about this) made.

And suddenly, this topic is made!  I've decided to put together a music pack featuring songs by our very own Cutstuff members!   I shall call it...THE CUTSTUFF CUSTOM MUSIC pack, otherwise known as the CSC-DAMN IT!

...On second thought, let's allow covers too and call it "CutTunes!"

So, of course, in order for this music pack to be made, we need songs.  Just submit any 8-BIT songs/covers that you've made (you can submit as many as you want although I highly recommend picking your best) in this thread or if you choose, by PM if you want to keep your involvement a surprise.  Note that I reserve the right to reject any song although I'll be rather lenient.  As of right now, there is currently no set limit on the number of songs being put into this pack, although I'll eventually cut off submissions once I feel we have enough for a pack.  If you miss this cutoff and there's enough interest, I might put together other "volumes" of CutTunes.

For submissions, here are the requirements:
1) The song MUST be made by you!!!
2) Your song MUST be 8-bit.  Expansion chips are fine, just don't give me GXSCC crap or non-chiptuned stuff.
3) Please give the name of your song/the song you are covering when submitting.
4) Your song MUST be able to be looped.  Non-looping songs just sound awkward when you try to loop them.
5) If you are doing a cover of a song, please provide a link to the original version of the song.  Nobody wants to listen to a cover if they can't even tell what the originals sound like

Here are a few suggestions.  These are not required, but are highly encouraged:
1) I recommend putting your song on YouTube so it can easily be heard without downloading.
2) You do NOT have to create the looped version when submitting, although it will speed up the process if you do.
3) Ask your peers for their honest thoughts on your music.  If I say no to a song and have an out-pouring of people saying "But I really like that song", I will definitely think about reconsidering.  Also, if they point out valid problems with your cover, it doesn't hurt to make a good song even better!

BTW, I've been reminded of something. A word to the wise about looping: If you're using famitracker and are exporting the song as a .wav file, select "play song twice" and manually edit the loop in audacity. Famitracker generally cuts off the song a split second early which will make any attempts to loop using the "Play song once" option sound awful. By extension, if you're sending me the wav so I can loop it, pick "play song twice".

Your Poptart Cat avatar just doesn't match your attitude at all...and I love it for that reason.

I figured I might as well point this out.  I noticed under the FAQ button at the top of the page is a link that says "CHAT }".  Highlighting it says "{ CHAT_EXPLAIN }".  Clicking it reloads the current page.  Just thought you ought to know.

W.I.P Forum / The Nintendo Unofficial Expansions
« on: December 14, 2010, 10:31:42 PM »
Hi, everybody!  I just had a great idea for an expansion:  an expansion pack based on other classic Nintendo games.  Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Kirby's Adventure, Contra, Castlevania, anything else you can think of!  In order for this pack to be most effective, I'd need a variety of skins, maps, and maybe weapons, so anybody who can do those things can sign up.

HOWEVER, I must make this clear:  I want this to be a quality pack, so I'm not accepting anything and everything that gets thrown my way.  Anyways, I kind of just thought of this, and with holidays approaching, it's not going to be done by the end of the year, or maybe not even by the end of next month.  It will be done whenever I feel we have enough material.  Anyways, if you want to contribute, feel free to tell me what you'd like to contribute.  Just remember, I have the right to reject anything, and I will use that right.

THERE ARE NOW TWO EXPANSIONS
The Nintendo Classics Expansion covers only NES and Gameboy (color) games.

The Nintendo Retro-fied Expansion (for lack of a better title) covers consoles beyond the 8-bit era, but 8-bitified.  For right now, the list of submissions will be combined and then separated when it comes time to compile the packs.

Criteria for Submissions (subject to change)
-The submission must be from a game tied closely to Nintendo.  For example, although Castlevania has expanded beyond Nintendo, it's roots lie in the NES, so it counts.
-The submission must be 8-bit.  Duh.
-The submission can be from a Nintendo console beyond the NES.  However, it must be converted to 8-bit.
-No extremely obscure games.  Part of being a classic is actually being known.

Anything Goes / My Ustream Channel/Chatroom

I'm mainly doing random crap and trying to use it as a chatroom in case anybody wants to chat.  I play random music, I play footage of MM8BDM (I can't stream it unless you want to see 1 fps), and if possible, I might try and stream my first gamemaker project I was working on earlier this year before losing interest.

Mega Man Discussion / Keiji Inafune Quits

Considering the fact that he was the main reason why Legends 3 was getting made, there's probably going to be problems.

(Of course, I don't care about that series, so meh for me)

I haven't seen a topic on this, so I'll assume nobody has found it yet.

I was looking for all of the Yakawhosewhatsits.  When I got to Star Man's stage, I thought I saw an odd grey sprite, but only caught a glimpse of it.  I restarted the level and sure enough, on the exterior of the level, an enemy sprite from the Duck Tales game was floating around!

EDIT:  Now I have the theme song to Duck Tales stuck in my head.  Thanks, Mike.

-Frigid Ocean has ice platforms that have been made much larger, elevation changes in the White Flag area, White Flag platform is not icey, divider areas added to the entrances to the bases
-New maps added

There are two reasons why I made this pack:  1)  To update my old maps again and make them more well known with the newer MM8BDM community and  2) To silence that voice in my head saying "Hey, here's a crazy idea for a stage!"  To be honest, I think these maps range from bad *coughXDuel00cough* to awesome *coughChristmasCapecough* with most being in my "meh" range.  Then again, I played them over and over by myself, so that may influence my opinion.  Since I'm losing interest, a large update soon is unlikely.  However, smaller fixes may be done soon since those aren't too bad.  There's some stuff I'd like to fix, but I just have nothing left in the tank right now.

Now, here's some map descriptions, some directions, sand some stuff that I know will need some fixing/is broken but I can't fix yet.

Skins & Bots etc / My first skin - Dr. Wily
« on: July 13, 2010, 08:49:21 PM »
I just got done making my first skin/bot, Dr. Wily, with the help of the tutorials.  Thanks to sprites-inc.co.uk for the original sprites.  I had to add a few features so you could easily see what weapon he has.
