AMP-MP 2.0 is in the works. Not much has been made, let alone tested, but what I can guarantee is that 99% of the gripes people had regarding this map pack will be looked over. The texture soup, the music, the gimmicks, and the horrible fact that some of these maps were so half-assed it wasn't even funny. The dick joke was kinda funny though, so nyeh.
No map will go untouched. No map will go unimproved. This is a promise I can make to you all, I will make sure that everything is just right for the players. Of course, I will still have full creative control over what goes into these maps, including the music, so I won't exactly produce a map pack made purely out of spoon-fed suggestions. This is meant to be the version of AMP that I can take full pride in. Thanks to all your feedback, I have a clear idea over what the hell will get chopped and what won't.

Tutorial Collection / [Tutorial?] Music compression in Audacity
« on: September 04, 2011, 09:36:10 PM »
Hello folks, Mendez here with a quick little tutorial on compressing music while still retaining (most of) the same amount of quality. To do this tutorial, you will need a piece of music, Audacity, and an actual reason to compress your music to begin with. My reason is that I want to keep AMP the same size. Anyways, for this example I will use Robert Seaton's "megaman returns SoundMan theme", which can be heard in AMP05. Originally, the file size was about 1.4 MB. With this tutorial though, I will show you how to compress it to a little over 550 KB. Let's begin.
Step 1 - Opening the music in Audacity.
This is just a simple step that I'm sure we don't need to cover. Simply select the file, right-click it, and choose to open with Audacity.

Step 2 - Setting it to mono.
This is where you can decide to switch it from two channels to one, effectively compressing the song. To do this, go to Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono.

Step 3 - Exporting it to ogg.
Once we're done with that, there's another tricky step we have to take. Once we begin exporting the track, we might be negligent of the options we have for exporting it.

With this, you can select the quality of the ogg audio you're about to export. If it's pure 8-bit, you can set the quality to 2 and still not notice any difference. Doing this to a song with actual instruments might not work so well, though.

Once you're happy with your settings, just export it and you'll be done.
CONGRATULATIONS. IF YOU'VE DONE THIS TO ALL YOUR TRACKS, YOU WILL NO LONGER FORCE PEOPLE TO DOWNLOAD 10MB MORE OF STUFF THEY WON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT.
Here's a quality test if you're curious:

Robert Seaton - SoundMan Compressed

NEW METHOD (11/24/2011):
Skip the "stereo track to mono" step, and just go straight to exporting. This time, however, set the ogg export quality to 1. This will do a much more effective job at compression, while still retaining a good portion of the quality (if it's 8-bit).
Here's some tests if you're interested. The song used was Robert Seaton's "Shark Man", which can be heard in Kengine.
Shark Man UNCOMPRESSED. The size here is 1.32 MB.
Shark Man (Stereo, ogg quality=1). The size here is 551 KB.
Shark Man (Mono, ogg quality=3). The size here is 597 KB.[/quote]

Hope this has been a somewhat helpful tutorial. Have a nice day.

So yeah, since AMP is out, I figure I could continue to make maps for the hell of it. Anyways, this is screenshots of a map I might release soon, called "Kengine". It's my little map that plays with 3d floors to try and create some sort of interesting layout. Here's to work.

I'm probably gonna get a link up in a little bit, but that's after working with scripts and item locations. God ffffffffffff scripts.

Help & Editing / Doombuilder won't allow me to insert weapons
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:40:38 PM »
For some odd reason, I can't insert weapons into my maps that I'm working on. It's like there's a section missing for it, unlinke Mike's tutorial. Here's a screenshot of the current situation.

As you can see, it looks a little different from the mapping tutorial Mike showed. Does this mean I have to make a fresh re-installation, or is there a remedy for this problem? Thank you for your time.

MM8BDM Discussion / What has brought you here?
« on: February 12, 2011, 07:33:47 AM »
After checking all three hundred and twenty-something topics, I'm amazed that this question hasn't been brought up yet. The question being: What brought you to MM8BDM in the first place? This topic will serve as a way for people to tell their stories about how they heard about the game and how their first time went. We might get some good stories, we might not.
Example (also true story):
On the day of July 16 (or was it 14th? Whatever.) 2010, Vardoc uploaded a video entitled "Random gaming: Megaman deathmatch". In the video, he showed gameplay of both needle man's stage and MM3 dr wily 1. Intrigued, I decided to download the whole thing from Vardoc's download page. Being too lazy to put it in another folder other than "downloads", I immediately start it up. Right off the bat, I get my ass handed to me on Metal man's. But of course, with enough time and playing, I got better. I soon met Blaze and Dragoon, and the rest they say, is history. Fuck that cliche.
