So I made this sprite edit of Egg Robo to reflect Eggman's modern design. I feel the shading's kinda wonky since I'm not really used to genesis shading, but I think it came out pretty good.

so a while back I decided to try my hand at making a custom sprite for the first time rather than just editing and mashing together other sprites like I used to do when I was a wee little dummy babby

So I did!!

Dunno if I'll call this the "result" or just the "progress so far" but it is indeed A Thing so here it is

made with a sort of "RPG maker" feel in mind, since that's what I'm most used to working with I guess

It's not amazing by any means but I'm quite pleased with this for a first sprite and hope to continue on the grand ol' road of improvement

oh yeah also much credit to kapus for helping me clean it up and giving me direction when I wasn't sure how to proceed!!

Criticism is highly welcome and appreciated!

It looks a lot like a sprite from Earthbound/Mother 3, and as far as I'm concerned, that's awesome. :o

Quick note, make sure to include x1 size when you post sprites[like the above] to make it easier on people who want to see it at its natural resolution.

So looking at the above, although the linework and head are fine, the colors on the clothes are in drastic need of some contrast; all the colors blend together and it looks like one solid color because their luminosity is too similar.
For example,

Here I made two variations to help distinguish the different colors on the coat; One with the coat's shades darker and one with its base brighter. Personally, I like the brighter one more.

While going through the sprite, I noticed you had some very slightly off-color tans on her face. I figured these weren't intended because they're downright invisible on just about any size.



My final tweaked version.
Pretty much all I did was change the coat's light gray[and made the pendant's dark gray that same color], changed the skirt's colors [light slightly lighter, shade much more slightly darker] and add one more pixel of shade to her legs that's not even visible on 1x anyway.
Oh, I also made the shading on her cheeks symmetrical because it bothered me.

As always, feel free to disregard these specific changes and/or tweak it yourself. It'll help you get better!
Also, this is really good for a first custom sprite, just saying.

Thanks, Ridley! I'm not really a big fan of how lighter version myself, the colors are a bit too bright for her. The darker version looks much more accurate to her actual design, so if I were to go with one, I'd pick that. I think I'll just take your advice and fiddle with the colors myself, though! Personally I thought the contrast was fine, but I'll see what I can do!

The cheek asymmetry and stuff was just crap I missed, though. I'm not too good at spotting stuff like that, so thanks for pointing it out!
