I'm not sure why they haven't changed the title screen.Do you like Final Fantasy? Do you like Final Fantasy
IV? Did you ever think to yourself "Hm, I wonder what it'd be like to play FF4 as any of the playable characters, go through it with or without my friends, die to like five superbosses multiple times, and then do it again and again for as long as I want to?"
If you answered "maybe" to any of the questions above, this game could very well be for you!
Final Fantasy Remnants is a fan-made replica of Final Fantasy 4 with a whole slew of additions, such as various changes to classes so that you're not doing one thing the entire game.
[old Kain/Dragoon strategy: JUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMPJUMP]Other notable changes include NewGame++ Classes, classes you unlock for doing various things in the game. These range from Golbez to Setzer to a random Red Mage. There's 11 additional classes you can unlock, in addition to the 14 default ones.
INSTALLATIONYou might be asking yourself "But Korby! How do I go about playing such a game? I do not know what a bee-yawnd is!"
To which I have to reply with "Well, BYOND is a
pretty bad development platform with its own simple coding language and a focus on making games.
To download it, you can just head to their website over at http://www.byond.com/. Do keep in mind that you will have to register a Key, or account, when signing up!"
Now that you have BYOND, you'll need to connect the game.
Due to previous legal issues with Squenix, the creators of FFR cannot actually display their game on the BYOND server browser. This is a pretty simple fix.
When you open the BYOND server browser[the black rectangle looking thing] either go into the gear menu in the top right and click open location, or press CTRL+O.After that, I highly suggest clicking the "add" button. This'll add the game as a bookmark in your locations.
byond://75.70.88.103:777
This is the IP for the server. If that IP doesn't work, try using:
byond://ffr.ddns.net:777Name it whatever, and join! It'll take a little while to download the game, but afterwards, you'll reach the title screen!
CONTROLSBy default, all of the controls are bound to the Numpad. [Movement is included, but you can always use the arrow keys]
789
456
123
These are the only keys you need to worry about there!
From ingame:
open/close main menu = NUMPAD 9
back/previous menu/take item = NUMPAD 7
confirm/choose = NUMPAD 5 [Most BYOND games refer to this as CENTER, so when the title screen tells you to press CENTER, press NUM 5]
land airship/release chocobo/destroy item = NUMPAD 1
There is one other control scheme you can set it to!
The alternative control scheme is as follows, and can be toggled at any time through the Social tab.
open/close main menu = E
back/previous menu/take item = R
confirm/choose = G
land airship/release chocobo/destroy item = B
VARIOUS HELPFUL, BUT SPOILERY GUIDESCUTOPIAN GUARDAs a way of organizing ourselves and letting the people who run the game know they aren't[or are] getting the equivalent of a Homie invasion, you have the option to join the Cutopian Guard, a clan made specifically for Cutstuff members who play this game!
Basically, just ask one of the recruiters or me while we're on to send you an invite, and you'll get in! Some benefits of being in a clan include the private Clan say channel, and me being able to set my own message of the day for you guys.
Our Recruiters thus far:
Me! I usually run around as Dave (Key: Korby)
Dr. Freeman(Key: WhoaDoctorFreeman)
If you're on a lot, you'll probably be made a recruiter!
THE DEFAULT CLASSESDARK KNIGHT[Cecil]
Uses DARK BLADE, skills that are heavily dps focused but often damage yourself as well.
PALADIN[Also Cecil]
Aside from WHITE MAGIC and COVER which allow you to assist allies, HOLY BLADE gives you a varied list of useful skills.
DRAGOON[Kain]
JUMP and DRAGON ART are your craft! Either leap into the sky and be immune to damage or breathe various elements on your enemies... or allies!
WHITE MAGE[Rosa]
Specializes in WHITE MAGIC, but has PRAYER to restore HP and MP to all allies and AIM for some guaranteed damage.
YOUNG CALLER[Rydia]
Equipped with WHITE MAGIC, BLACK MAGIC, and CALL to summon random summons, the only things holding the Young Caller back are the inability to choose your own summons and bad stats.
MATUE CALLER[Also Rydia]
Only has BLACK MAGIC and SUMMON, but has much better stats than the Young Caller and can actually choose what they want to summon!
BLACK TWIN[Palom]
Has BLACK MAGIC, the superpowerful TWINCAST, and BLUFF which increases your magic damage. To effectively use TWINCAST, you must have another Twin of either type in your party also cast TWINCAST at the same time.
WHITE TWIN[Porom]
Has WHITE MAGIC, the superpowerful TWINCAST, and MEDITATE, which quickly restores your mana.
LUNARIAN[FuSoYa]
Having both WHITE MAGIC and BLACK MAGIC is already a great thing, but with the addition of SPIRITWAVE to bestow your allies with regenerating health and mana, the Lunarian is a force to be reckoned with.
SAGE[Tellah]
The Sage too has WHITE MAGIC and BLACK MAGIC, but he also has RECALL to remember a random spell for no MP whatsoever!
NINJA[Edge]
One of the few classes who can duel wield, they also have NINJUTSU for various damaging spells, THROW, and STEAL.
MONK[Yang]
Though they don't really shine until lategame, Monks have MARTIAL ARTS that supply them with a numerous variety of damaging spells, FOCUS which increases your upcoming damage, and ENDURE to give yourself a bit more defense.
BARD[Edward]
Bards are often considered to be one of the best classes in the game. They have BARDSONG which allows them to apply various buffs to your party, MEDICINE which activates healing items on the entire party, and HIDE to avoid all incoming damage.
ENGINEER[Cid]
Uses ANALYZE to get a free scan on enemies, TOOLS which are essentially Edgar from FF6, and ARSENAL, a variety of damaging spells.
I should mention that you cannot easily solo through the game, so having at least one other person in your party will help you get to the end.
Scarmiglione or Baigan if you're lucky are where you will essentially have to stop in a single player journey, depending on what class you're playing.
Feel free to ask in here or on the server for people to get on and level with you! Most people have multiple characters with varying levels, so they'll probably have one that wouldn't mind partying with you.
Oh, and debuffs rarely work.
One more thing; When you first start a character, go up and buy equipment, then equip it. You don't start with anything but money!
If I forgot anything, feel free to ask! Have fun, and happy adventuring!
