Skulltag won't let me test the stage.  It just brings me to "Find your Doom2 wad file" and MM8BDM won't work.  Also how would we use a server with our custom stages?

Thanks to Tornado, I've found out that you can put stages in the skins folder and have them appear in game.  However, that doesn't allow custom music and I have a feeling that's not the right way to do it.

P.S. - I've finished updating my maps and will release them as soon as I know how the correct way to put them in game.

The launcher needs updating, but for now you can do this:

Go to the host tab.
Under custom parameters put the following: -file whatever.wad
whatever being the name of the wadfile. Make sure it's in the same folder or you may have to put the whole path to the file.

Skulltag is asking me for my doom directory...but I dont have doom...I simply want to test with the MM8BDM game.

How can I solve this?

Edit:

I can load the map when placing it in the skins folder....but I get a "unknown texture sky1" bug...but my room only has about 10 walls and I never even used such a texture :/

Does it do this when you hit the test button?

About the sky thing, that's to do with the MAPINFO lump that goes along with the wad file. I'll have to explain about that another time, but if you have SLumpEd you can peer into the PK3 and look at the regular wad files to get an idea of how they work.

I'll give it a try.
And, yes, skulltag does this once I use the test button in Doom Builder2
I very much appreaciate your help.

I have it setup the same way you did it...even when I try to start the skulltag.exe without build2 it asks me for my doom path

Edit: Starting the skulltag.exe from within doomseeker works fine :/

Yay, I am not the only one.

So, I could load the map now...but not directly from within build2...well, even if I try to load is my error now is the missing texture sky1 ....which I never even used....

Okay, I just used the "ERRORS AND WARNINGS" option in build2...it gave me a long list of things:

(click to show/hide)

Edit: NVM! This list of erros is outdated as I dont get it again after clearing it

...still, I cant run maps due to this annoying error :(

Edit: Okay, I just tried to create a completely new map...but even with just one room with the DEFAULT textures I get the "missing texture sky1" bug upon trying to start the map

Edit:
I'm currently reinstalling build2 and all other stuff...will inform you if it worked :(

Edit: Reinstalled everything, created a 640*640 rooms and didnt touch the textures at all...when trying to load the map I still get the "MISSING TEXTURE SKY1" bug...now its up to you to help me...I cant get it to work :(

Edit: Even builder tells me that I dont use such a texture...all I use is one texture (for testing)

Edit: I'll have to give up for now.
I'd love to make some maps...but if I would start now and cant solve this problem later everything will be wasted :(

Actually, I made these stages about 2 months ago for the demo.  I should be the one saying "I am not the only one." ;)

Oh, and sorry about the error.  I've never encountered it, so I can't help you.

Wait, is it running but just giving that sky error? You should just ignore it.

For testing through doom builder, are you sure you did this step?

Try checking Customize Paremeters. If that doesn't work, try checking the Use short paths and filenames.

Please browse to the following folder and post what's in your builder.cfg (open it with notepad)

Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)

MM8BDM is installed in a folder right on my desktop.  Doombuilder is in its own folder in programs.

Try moving all your mm8bm into a folder like C:/MM8BDM or something. I know some people have had problems with programs linking to their desktops/my documents folders in windows 7/vista. Don't forget to change the paths in game configurations when you do this.

Eh, I'll just test them by putting them in the skins folder.
So, how do we make CTF maps?  3 is a bit too few for my liking.

Not completely new to Doom Builder, but far from familiar with it. One problem I have is that I don't see the Decorate dropdown where all of the weapons/etc. are stored. Maps in the pk3 package are the same way; Things there appear as an error (player spawns are fine, though). Is this a simple oversight I'm missing?

I'd still like to figure out if Windows 7 is the problem for not being able to test maps, so if you get chance please try chucking MM8BDM into C: and trying it from there  :p

Okay you need to use the red and blue team starts (I recommend using about 18 each side) and the red and blue CTF flags (under the Flags dropdown). You should also use the white flag too, and stick it in the middle of the stage somewhere (in case people want to play one flag CTF). That's all there is to it. To test it, use offline skirmish and make sure the game mode is set to capture the flag.

Btw I completely agree, I lacked ideas for CTF layouts. If you make some cool ones I'll happily stick them in the main build if you want.

Also be very careful about what weapons you choose. Skull Barrier, Leaf Shield (unless fire/cut weapons are nearby), Proto Shield and Mirror Buster should be left out of the game completely if you ask me.

But I have Windows Vista, not windows 7.

Yeah, I'm thinking about having a factory with crushers similar to Dust Man's stage (I believe crushers are a sector action, correct?), conveyor belts, and (if I'm able to understand replicate the code well enough) gravity switching from Gravity Man's stage.

Make a skins folder in the same folder that MM8BDM is in (if you haven't already) and copy and paste the stages you want to test in there.  It works.  Just remember to delete them before going online in case something bad happens.

I have the same problem as everyone else :/ I might try the C: thing but that sounds like more hassle than its worth. May just test in the skins folder.

If its any help, I believe I've had this problem when configuring Doomseeker in the past.

EDIT: Both files are just in my documents, if that helps.

EDIT: Copying megagame.wad and renaming it doom2.wad worked! I think I'm just gonna stick to that.

Still wanna know how to play maps ingame though.

EDIT: When will the next tutorial be out? I need help with textures :P

To play maps in game or on a server, you can host a server (regardless of internet connection) and under custom parameters, type -file stagenamehere.wad.

Okay that explains it! It was somehow finding my doom2.wad and including it when it launched (even though I never specified Doom Builder 2 to do that, cheeky bugger).

Updating the tutorial ASAP to show you how to resolve this issue without renaming megagame.wad.

Edit: Done!

Hmm... At first when i tried making a map with these settings, for whatever reason, Doom Builder didnt load any of the DECORATE information at all.
I managed to fix it by making an Wad file and basically putting all of the decorate code in it without having it refer to the decorate in the pk3 file (i think DB2 simply has trouble finding decorate items when stuff like "#include "actors/inventory/megabuster.txt"" is used), and Doom Builder finnaly loaded all the weapons and items!

If this problem happens to other people maybe you could include the steps i did in the tutorial? I could even send the file i made. :P

Really dumb question.

I was wondering if Doom Builder 2 was portable; that is, it doesn't require any device drivers or anything to run.

Deathmatch is portable, I run it off my flash drive all the time!

I got DB2 to work, but I just need to know if it's possible to use it on a different computer or off a flash drive. If not, that's fine, but I won't be able to map as much as I would like.

Thanks in advance.

I have a problem. When I load my .wad in Doom Builder, it says something like "Here are the maps found in the wad. Please choose the correct map" and it gives me only one option: whatever file I added to the .wad last. Its really annoying because when I load it, it makes it so it counts as my .wad has nothing but maps in it. I don't know what the problem is.

Add new textures to a map?  First, go to edit, then map options.  Click "add resources..." and on the new window, click the "From Directory" tab.  Find the directory containing all of your textures.  Then click the "Load images in directory root as textures" box and click ok.  This should allow you to use images in the directory as textures in DoomBuilder2, but not in game.  Open the stage.wad file in slumped and import all of the images used as lumps.  They should appear in game now, too.

It's actually quite simple the way CutmanMike's done it.

Simply double click on the line and just copy how he did it to create a legit MM8BDM ladder. Here's a screenshot:

I've circled the important bits.

Thanks Mr. X and DTD, few extra things.

I have a ramp of stairs leading to a platform... however, above each stair is a sort of box on the ceiling... it looks terrible and I don't know how to get rid of it.

And how to add music? I probably won't get it looped correctly but any music is better than silence.

Ok, I've got a question with the new update.  Can I safely delete the v1a PK3 without losing any data?  When I try to test in DoomBuilder, it tries to load both pk3s which increases loading times and makes it so I can't fire.

v1b contains all the data of v1a so sure. You may need to point to v1b in the game configurations in DB2 though.

I've done that, it's just in testing parameters, although I only have skulltag.exe and megagame.wad listed, it tries to load all of the pk3s.  I'll just delete v1a then.

You're using Doom Builder rather than Doom Builder 2.

Do you have written parental consent to be here?  If not, then you technically aren't allowed on here.

Quote
COPPA, or the Child Online Privacy and Protection Act of 1998, is a law in the United States requiring websites which can potentially collect information from minors under the age of 13 to have written parental consent or some other method of legal guardian acknowledgment, allowing the collection of personally identifiable information from a minor under the age of 13. If you are unsure if this applies to you as someone trying to register or to the website you are trying to register on, contact legal counsel for assistance. Please note that the phpBB Group cannot provide legal advice and is not a point of contact for legal concerns of any kind, except as outlined below.

Gotten from the FAQ.  As a general rule of thumb, most websites do not let anybody under 13 to be on them at all without parental consent.

Please read all of the topic next time, BradeDude.

You've been everywhere but this topic apparently.  I've already said how to add textures.  If you mean the grass objects, they're under "DECORATE" at the bottom of the add things list.

Also, for adding music, just add the music file to your .wad and edit the mapinfo so it plays the music.

You have to open your map's .wad file using Slumped and create a mapinfo lump.  I recommend opening a stage from the game, exporting one of the maps' mapinfo files, importing it into your map, and then changing the data you need to change.  Then, just add the audio file to the wad.

It's actually quite simple the way CutmanMike's done it.

Simply double click on the line and just copy how he did it to create a legit MM8BDM ladder. Here's a screenshot:

I've circled the important bits.

If you want to learn something you've seen in a map. Just open the map up in an editor and look at how it's done.

If you want to make a Door like in MMCTF07. Then look at it in an editor. That's how I learnt... 80% of the things I do while mapping.

The Ogg Vorbis is a very compact format that keeps good quality. It's ideal to use in mapping. Things like Audacity export songs into .ogg format.

MM8BDM uses a campaign which adds bots automatically depending on the map name (MM4PHA in this case). You can either change the name to something else, or do offline skirmish with no bots added.

player start if you just want to try it without bots

click on the wall you want a impassable wall over and check the box "impassable"

4 how do i make those windows like in skull man's stage(bones)or thos hanging solar panels in top man's stage??
usualy to create floating objects like that, just make a small rectangle, raise it and add a center texture to both sides, same works for windows.

just draw a octagon for starters then maby make it rounder

Well this is annoying, but you have to actually manually type in the backup name. Or copy and paste works as well. But you can't select the backup files as far as I can tell...which is odd, because you could do that in Doom Builder 1.

Thank you Ivory, that seemed to work... as far as playing it is concerned. Can I just load the backup in doombuilder or something? Or am I limited to just playing it...?

Of course. In the open map dialogue box, just type/paste in the back up name and load it. Then use save as to save it overtop of the screwed up file, thus you now have a non screwed up file.

Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)

I think you need to make the tiles which you want to animate in an order, like the water in Centuarman's stage:
CWATER1
CWATER2
CWATER3
CWATER4
Then you will have to make a copy of CWATER1, and remove the number, making it CWATER like the PNG files in Centaurman's stage

Post by: T3H PL4Y3R on December 09, 2010, 07:42:16 PM
I found out. What you need to do is create a 'Unknown' lump, and call it 'ANIMDEFS'.Then, by using Centaurman's code, do it like this:

Code: [Select]
texture CENTFAL
    allowdecals
    pic CENTFAL1 tics 4
pic CENTFAL2 tics 4
pic CENTFAL3 tics 4

texture CWATER
    allowdecals
    pic CWATER1 tics 12
pic CWATER2 tics 12
pic CWATER3 tics 12
pic CWATER4 tics 12

I'm not sure what the 'tics' are, but thats how it should be done.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: Max on December 09, 2010, 07:43:52 PM
I know what the tic is, it's the amount of time between frames. Thanks for finding that out for me though.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: Ivory on December 09, 2010, 07:47:35 PM
To be exact. a tic is the amount of time spent on a frame. There are 35 tics in one second.
Tics are also the frame rate of Doom based games, like mm8bdm.

Time for a lecture on the subject of mapping and design.
================================================

Do you think I honestly learned mapping by getting tutorials? No. When I was in your positions, I learned the doom builder interface, worked by trial and error, looked other peoples maps to see how they make things work and most importantly, Let ZDoom Wiki (http://zdoom.org/wiki/Main_Page)  become my best friend.

Then came years, and years of practice. You cannot, and I repeat, CANNOT expect to become a master mapper in a matter of weeks. Not only must you learn the technological part. You must also learn the creative and fundamental idealism of what is good design and what is bad design.

Being able to sit down and think, play test dozens of time. Is it fun? Is it well designed? Does it look good? Is the gameplay solid? Is this map the best it can be? Those are the type of questions you have to ask yourself. Patience is a virtue in this field.

With that being said, Mapping is design, mapping involves technological skill and most importantly, patience. If you aren't willing to take the time to learn, you are honestly not cut out for this field. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from trying. However I see too many novices at mappers who simply do understand these concepts. Take from this what you will, but understand this.
You will learn far more by making mistakes and fixing them, then you will by demanding tutorials.

TL;DR or TL;DC?... Well tough, if you aren't going to read what I said, then you really don't have the patience for mapping. Especially if you were of the latter Too long.

I never ask how to do Doom related editing on Forums, I always use the Zdoom wiki and use other WADS as resources. This is the Doom community, you're allowed to do that but be aware of the differences between stealing and borrowing. It's also nice to give credit if you take a massive chunk of code from someone.

Also, don't take a load of resources and claim it as your own. *Cough* "Super Skulltag" *Cough*

I know... I'm not saying I don't look at the maps, because I do, but some things still evade me. I've got about 16 extracted official maps I've been studying, but I can't do skyboxes, for example. I just thought someone writing a useful tutorial would save time, rather than just saying "do it yourself".

If no-one wants to...

Something I still don't get about skyboxes.

In MM8BDM, skyboxes appear to be on all sides. For example, MM2DW1 has the huge ground area outside the map. Whenever I try this, I just get the blurry 'no texture'. I get that you don't set the texture to the outside, but how do I sort of well, trigger the sides to be in the skybox? I don't think I explained that well but I hope someone understands me.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: CutmanMike on December 15, 2010, 05:55:03 PM
There's an object inside the skybox called a skybox viewpoint that needs to go in the middle of the skybox. Raise it's Z height up a bit (so the view isn't inside the floor) and all sky SHOULD become that skybox.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: Mr. X on December 15, 2010, 05:57:09 PM
Wait, are you putting the ground outside of the playing area into the skybox?  The large amount of ground outside of the playing area in MM2DW1 is actually not part of the skybox.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: Max on December 15, 2010, 05:58:13 PM
Okay so I can put that in... but still, the skybox appears 'outside' the map, like, above the area where I want it to be... I'll get a pic if needed. Hold on...

What the hell? What's with the background? You ask for a tutorial on how to make a skybox yet you haven't even learnt the bare basics of the program?

I'll let you figure how to fix this extremely simple problem by yourself.
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)

Well it was in the grid options? I wondered what it does so I tried it... eheh.

I'll change it back, but it doesn't fix anything.

And I don't see how adding a backround is "not knowing the bare features of the program". It didn't break anything.... meanie.

ok i have a few question
1 is there a way to copy your texture/ sector and paste it around?
i made a few stalagmite things, and i wanna copy them and paste them around the roof to make it look like more
2 is there a way to make an antire room brighter? i think with the birghtness tool, but how do you use that.
3 so i understand a skybox as making a big circle, putting the skybox viewpoint in it
then i keep the roof of where i want the skybox area to be f sky
and i keep the walls "!"  right?

How do you make it so your map plays a custom music when the frags left get down to 5? I tried using this script but it does nothing.

Code: [Select]
#include "zcommon.acs"

script 1 (void)
{
if(PlayerFrags() == GetCVar("fraglimit") - 5)
{
SetMusic("BOWSMUS2");
}
}

The name should be made in mapinfo. for example, in Doom, Episode 1 map 1.
"E1M1" is the name of the map. "Hanger" is the title.

I've decided to do a map Inspired in the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Im still experiencing with Doom Builder 2 though; This might take a while to be done xD

I have a question though -

Is it necessary to make starting points for all the 18 players or they're automically set?

EDIT: Nvm. A sad experience with bots awnsered me that question..

EDIT: I have another question. How do I add more than 8 startpoints? I've added all 8 and tested them with bots, but when I add the 9th bot it telefrags the one in the place. Also, How do I add a music to the map?

Player 1-8 start points was intentioned  for cooperative game modes. Use the Deathmatch Starts instead.

Thank you :) Since my map will be made for roboenza only, I dont think I'll be needing those.

However, I still would Like to know how to add a music to the map. If someone could awnser me, I'd be happy. I just found a video about it though - If it helps, I'll edit this post and delete the question.

ALRIGHT, I've finished my map. BUT, some questions.

1 - How Do I put musics in the map? (YD's awnser didnt help much...)
EDIT: Thanks Ambrose. Now I just have to learn how to configure the ZDOOM thingy..
2 - My map just doesnt work. I tried hosting(I put the map on the extra command thingies), I tried opening MM8BDM(Also put on extra command thingies) and imputting CHANGEMAP SDMBASE in the console, nothing. EDIT: I somehow lost the map (YAY). However, what can I do to make the map appear in the game?
3 - When I try to make a stairway withouth ladders, I always end up getting the textures to show in the ceiling. Is there a way to make this not happen, I'd like to know, thank you.
EDIT: WOOT! After 1 hour of pure trial and error, I finally made it. ^^'

1. Set linedef textures, middle should be the bars and it will show up beneath the floor and the ceiling.

2. Copy the officials (extract woodman and open it, click, Ctrl+C to copy Ctrl+V to paste although I'm sure you know that already) and right click to edit the directions

You could learn all of this by looking at the officials btw

With the bats, you'll also need to copy a chunk off the ACS code for the map. The default button for opening and editing ACS in Doom Builder 2 is F10.

What do you mean "windows"? Do you mean bridges?

Take a screenshot of what you're trying to do please.

Also, I don't believe you actually even need an answer for this. Just experiment with the program, avoid asking obvious questions. Also, there is a search button on this forum as well as ZDoom wiki.

...If you can't figure out how to make a mid-texture window, then I'm at a loss of words.

Examine the map, in doom builder, and it will be obvious. You create a linedef in your window, set it the middle texture to your texture of choice, set the line def flag to impassable or block players. Done.

I can't get the Metal Man moving floors to work. I copied the scripts lump from Metal Man, set the tags and the right floor but nothing happened. Plus the Metal floors are vertical and mine are horizontal, but all the Metal floors are saved as horizontal in doom builder.

What's wrong?
Title: Re: [TUTORIAL] Getting started with Doom Builder 2 (making maps)
Post by: Ivory on January 07, 2011, 06:00:52 PM
There is a script in MetalMan's Stage that rotates specifically tagged floors.
Next. The floor itself doesn't actually move anyone, it is once again the script specifically causes the ones to scroll and move players along.

Alternatively, you can also just set the sector effects to use the Carry (Direction) Functions.

Are you joking? Would you rather have Cutty copy and paste the same coding in EVERY SINGLE map. Then we would have to copy and paste the same scripts into EVERY SINGLE map we make? You think it's not mapping friendly, but putting common scripts that are used all over the place is more convenient globally in the pk3 itself, as opposed to the map.
So yes, it actually is map maker friendly.  :geek:

A .pk3 is the same as a .zip. Just with a different name.

Basicly you're asking "How do I extract from a zip?"

Rename the extention to .zip then open it up and take the bits you want.

MMM that is strange. Try to uninstall the 2 doom builders on the program list, and re-download doom builder 2. What system are you using?
And if the problem is still there, then download doom builder from another page, or download an older version. Try to change the directory of the game to a simply one, like "C:MM8BIT" or "C:GamesMM8BIT". Also Re-start the tutorial of the first page.

This is my directory of the game

Make sure you have the lines set to "lower unpegged". Also yeah, Doombuilder is a little glitchy.. put the line to where you want it then double the offset for it to work ingame.

Doom, you need a serious attitude change.  We're doing what any sane person would do:  we're asking the guy that knows what he's talking about--we can see that because of the medals you have.  If you're going to continue to act like this, then maybe these medals really are useless.

Also, Gyro, you've posted asking this before.  Here was one of the responses it got:

As in, A wall that is in the middle of a sector? Just make a new lindef and set the flag to block everything. This will make a paper thin wall.

A better looking way would be to make a new sector with the floor height raised to the ceiling.

If you are just trying to make rooms, use the sectors tool instead of the lindef one.
it is just easier for the most part.

You have to put a death pit below it. All spikes (except spineys/ bubbleman's) are for decorative use and don't actually damage you..

Can DB2 be used on OSX/Macs successfully? I'd wager it can be done with Wineskin, I'm curious if anyone's got it up.

(Slade on the other hand I would guess is impossible, but I can do without that)

edit: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=12221 (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=12221)

Consensus seems to be "no", but figure I'd try here anyway.  :?

edit: Apparently there's a mac editor called "Hellmaker". After downloading it and attempting to open the hqx, I get this message:

"Archive Utility

Unable to expand "Hellmaker v1.1 3.sit" - Stuffit archives not supported."

It tries to expand two .sit files (like the one listed above) but displays that message. Opening either .sit file reveals garbage text.

Bleh, the search continues.

2.)How do you get them off the ground?

How to you make textures lighter?
I have the DARFLR2 texture on some walls, and I can't seem to get the texture to be as light like in the original Darkman stage. The same problem happens with the texture WODMGRS3.
Although it appears perfectly fine in Visual Mode, everytime I go and test the map all I see is a darker version of the texture.

Okay, something's wrong here:

I wanted to edit the weapon layout of MM1CUT, putting Gravity Hold and Wind Storm in place of the normal weapons. However, I tried changing the map name and this happened:

No music
When I used changemap (not testing in doom builder) the game thought it was a credits sequence.

Help?

Linedef > check in "repeatable action" > activate action 128 which is "Thrust Thing Z" and set force to 15.

Then viola, working ladders.

Hm, did you remember to check "repeatable action"? If you don't it will only do the action once. Also make sure it is set to trigger to "Player Bumps" and not "Player walks over."

As for 3D floors, looking at what Lego did to Torch's map for it, its actually really easy.

Set an area outside the map at the elevation the 3D floor will be (likely square or however the shape will be) and put the textures in there, then set it to a tag. All areas with that tag will have a floor at that height.  There may be more to it, take a look at a map with them if you need to.

I have Doom Builder 2 and I don't recall a patch...but anyways

make a sector off to the side (width doesn't matter). Then, go to the sector you want the 3D floor on and set that to a tag #. Go back to your off-side sector and set any of the linedefs to 160 (Sector 3D floor). Tag it with the tag mentioned earlier, set the type to "Solid", set the alpha to 255, and set the linedef texture to what ever you want the side textures of your platform to be. Then, set the ceiling texture to whatever you want the top of the platform to be and vice versa for the bottom. Lastly, the height of the floor of the sector will determine the height of the bottom of your platform will be. The ceiling of the sector is the height of the top of your platform. I think that's all.

well, for the time being, make sure you have the requirements listed to use DB2.

I do, but...

...Wait a sec; on my more broken windows 7, my MM8BDM is V1. As in the one WITHOUT MM7. And THAT works fine, no issues. But on my XP gaming/internet PC, it is V2. As in the one WITH MM7. But THAT one does NOT work fine, because it crashes when I load it.

I think that this tutorial is NOT updated for the MM7 update, so that might be why this isn't working, and therefore, this tutorial needs to be updated.

Methinks. Anyone else think this?   :?

I did this tutorial when V2 was out. It worked perfectly fine. Try reinstalling DB2, and be sure to have followed the directions VERY CAREFULLY. (including that smaller font)

Click each linedef that the bots keep falling off from, right-click, and check the box labeled "block monsters". Hit OK, and hopefully your bots don't die anymore.

Also, how do you make floating platforms (like the wire bridges in the "Edge of the Dam" stage)?

3 ways.
Bridge actors and offset textures (you will need to make linedefs)
3D textures on offsets (basically the same thing without the bridge actor)
3D floors by making a sector off the map at the elevation you want the floor and giving one of the linedefs a "3D floor" action, set the tag, and create a sector using the tag where you want it.

Unable to load resources from location "D:ROCK MAN DEATH MATCHMM8BDM-v3a.pk3". Please make sure the location is accessible and not in use by another program. The resources will now be loaded with this location excluded. You may reload the resources to try again.
IOException when creating data reader: Multiple files with the same filename in the same directory are not allowed. See: "musics.wad"

How to deal with this?

Make sure the chosen engine in Doom Builder 2 is Zandronum and not Skulltag.

Yeah, you need to use Zandorum.EXE (not Skulltag) that came with the game.
Skulltag was for the old-as-fart versions.

Somebody update dem tutorials.

I think it's telling me it's "unable" to load the skulltag thing...and the elements for MM8BDM aren't appearing (not even the 'decors' option. I'm using v2c of MM8BDM. How do I fix this?

Instead of Skulltag for test program (for people who don't have Doom), use MM8BDM.exe.

This topic is outdated. For any future queries, please refer to the current version of the map tutorial here: https://cutstuff.net/forum/index.php?topic=9763.msg318454#msg318454

As for your problem, when setting up custom parameters in your resources tab, make sure that these are the parameters:
-iwad "megagame.wad" -skill "4" -file "%AP" "%F" +map %L %NM -deathmatch
See that -deathmatch at the end? That will make sure that the mode you test your map in will be deathmatch. By default, it goes to Co-op.

If you have any further questions, please ask.
