So yeah I've been bored lately and I was like "Why not, I'll play a game." So I decided on this game. Because it's a good game. And it contains Yoshis. And I'm going to shut up with this horrible exposition now.

SO LET'S BEGIN

(Warning you now, the intro is fairly long and the largest plot dump in the game.)

Update 1: Welcome to Yoshi's Island!

Any constructive comments would be appreciated!
Flattery is optional, but recommended. ;)

Anything Goes / READ: The Unofficial Ten Commandments of Cutstuff Posting
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:30:03 PM »
Ugh, despite Myroc's really good tutorial that everyone should go read, people are still posting horribly. Therefore, listen to these commandments, my child, and thou shalt find thyself enlightened.

I. Thou shalt not necrobump topics.

This is one of the pet peeves of many Cutstuff users. If a topic has not been posted in for more than a month and you are not the topic creator, please please please don't post in it. Exceptions can and should be made for mods that are still being worked on if you have something important to say (ex. a bug) about it.

II. Thou shalt not post only "lol" or "QFT".

This is another pet peeve that happens way too often. If the meat of your post is "lol" or "QFT", you're doing it wrong. These two phrases contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation; if you actually laugh, keep it to yourself instead of posting "lol". Although QFT is used in a much more serious context, there's no need for you to post if all you're doing is restating someone else's point. At least try to restate it in a different way.

III. Thou shalt not post random bullshit.

We don't care about what you had for breakfast today. We don't care about that dog you taught 5 new tricks. We don't care that you got a C on your math test yesterday. I know this seems like what the Spamthread should be for, but you don't need to post every goddamn aspect of your life in it.

IV. Thou shalt not become emotional and rage at thy opponent in an argument.

We are Cutstuff. We tend to argue about things. We tend to do that a lot. Keep your arguments logical, and don't use petty insults in a meager attempt to discredit the person you're arguing against. And, under no circumstances should you create a post dedicated to raging about the fact that you lost an argument! You have to be the better man here; admit that you lost the argument, and move on. If you rage at everyone that disagrees with you, people will start ignoring you.

V. Thou shalt not make more than one post in a row.

This is another pet peeve of many Cutstuff users, although I personally don't mind this one. Please don't post in a topic where the last post was yours, unless it is to bump it for a relevant and important reason. We've had lots of problems recently with certain users and double posting, so don't be that guy who double posts!

VI. Thou shalt not self-censor.

If you're going to post a fucking curse, post the whole fucking word. I can't stress this enough. You've already put the curse word in your post, what's the point of censoring it? Anyone with an IQ greater than 5 can realize what you're saying. Besides, "f***" just doesn't have the same effect as "fuck".

VII. Thou shalt not overuse emotes.

Ugh, this is a real problem among newer posters, and frankly, I don't get why. Try to keep your emote usage to a maximum of one per 5-10 posts. It's just annoying to see   spammed everywhere in a post and it doesn't have any sort of practical use.

VIII. Thou shalt use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

I can't stress this enough; it is so much more likely that people will take you seriously if you use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Now, if English isn't your first language, I can understand this a little; if you've grown up with the English language, you should be posting with correct grammar. There is no rush in writing a post, take your time! This is definitely the biggest problem among Cutstuff posts in general!

IX. Thou shalt avoid using size tags as often as possible.

This is a personal pet peeve and not one that's particularly relevant to Cutstuff, but please try to avoid using size tags. They're just plain annoying. Mini text is forcing the reader to take extra effort to read some part of your post, which is really annoying, while large text is just flat-out annoying and makes it look like you want attention. If you need to emphasize something, bold, italics, and underline tags work just fine.

X. Thou shalt avoid moving the thread in a direction it was not originally intended to go.

I don't care if you don't like the thread creator. I don't care if you don't like the thread itself. I don't care if there's someone else in the topic you don't like and you feel the need to argue with them. Use the thread for its intended purpose, not to settle personal grudges.

If you have anything to add, post in the topic! Thanks!

Tutorial Collection / The Newbie's Guide to Setting Up Controls
« on: December 30, 2012, 08:15:33 PM »
Hello everyone! This tutorial will explain some basic concepts about configuring your game and how to get the most out of it.

Controls

You can configure your controls through the Customize Controls Menu; to get there, press the Esc key to go to the main menu in game. Select the Option menu, then select Customize Controls.

This menu has a list of many basic commands. However, you do not have to set every single one. To set a command to a key, press Enter when your cursor is next to the command, then press the key you want to correspond to that command. Left clicks, right clicks, and the mouse wheel are all valid!

Here is a list of all the commands and what they do:

    Fire - Self explanatory.
Secondary Fire - A second attack for the same weapon. No weapon in vanilla MM8BDM uses this, but some classes in the various Classes mods do.
Use/Open - Used for opening certain doors. Not used in vanilla MM8BDM, but mods occasionally use it.
    Move Forward - Self explanatory.
    Move Backward - Self explanatory.
Strafe Left - Move left without turning.
Strafe Right - Move right without turning.
Turn Left - Self explanatory. I recommend you use strafe combined with mouselook instead though.
Turn Right - Self explanatory. I recommend you use strafe combined with mouselook instead though.
Jump - Self explanatory. All maps require you to jump in some shape or form, so make sure to bind this!
Crouch - Self explanatory. Most servers have this disabled, but it's nice to have for those that do.
Crouch Toggle - Press once to crouch and remain crouching; press again to get back up. I personally prefer Crouch, but I suppose it doesn't matter.
Fly/Swim Up - Allows you to move upward while flying on Rush Jet/Beat Call. This does not let you go up in water, despite the name. You can also go up by just looking up and moving forward, and it is in fact faster to do so.
Fly/Swim Down - Allows you to move downward while flying on Rush Jet/Beat Call. This does not let you go down in water, despite the name. You can also go down by just looking down and moving forward, and it is in fact faster to do so.
Stop Flying - If you're flying, moves you slightly downward with each tap. Don't bother.
Mouse Look - Toggles whether you can look around with the mouse or not. Don't bother with this, as there is a way to just turn it on and keep it on.
Keyboard Look - Toggles your movement keys to aiming keys. Don't bother.
Look Up/Down - Self explanatory. Mouse Look works better though.
Center View - If you're looking up or down, it'll force you to look straight ahead. Not really useful.
Run - Allows you to move forward at a faster rate while held; there's a setting to keep this on permanently, so don't bother.
Strafe - As long as you hold the key, if you move the mouse in either direction, you'll move in that direction without changing the way you're facing. The strafe left and right keys are far superior.
Say - Allows you to speak in the chat.
Team Say - If you start a message by using this key, it will only be visible to team members. Only works in team games.
    Next Weapon - Self explanatory.
    Previous Weapon - Self explanatory.
Activate Item - Press this button to activate whatever item you have selected.
Activate All Items - Activates all items currently in your inventory. Usually impractical, don't bother.
    Next/Previous Item - Self explanatory.
Drop Item - Allows you to drop your currently selected item on the ground. I don't know why you'd want to do this though.
Query Item - Useless, just displays the name and quantity of the currently selected item in the chat.
Drop Weapon - Drops your currently selected weapon. Again, no idea why you'd want to.
Vote Yes/No - Allows you to vote for map changes, limit (win condition) changes, or player kicks.
Toggle Automap - Shows you a full map of the current level you're in.
Chasecam - Gives you a 3rd person view of your character. Only allowed on certain servers.
Add a Bot - Only works offline and not in campaign; adds a bot to the current level you're playing.
Coop Spy - Allows you to watch a player from their first-person view; only works if you're on their team or you're a spectator.
Screenshot - Takes a screenshot of course.
Show Scores - Allows you to see how many frags/wins each person/team has. Very important to bind this!
Show Medals - Bugged; don't use it.
Spectate - Makes you a spectator if you aren't one already.
Taunt - Allows you to taunt. Only custom skins and classes use this.
Open Console - Opens the console, allowing you to use more advanced commands.
    All other commands do nothing.

Player Settings

Now that we have our controls, let's personalize our settings! Return to the main menu (press Esc a couple of times). Select Multiplayer or Options and then select Player Setup.

Now, we're at the Player Setup menu! Let's go over each option:

Name - You put the name you want to use in game here. Click here to find out how to add colors to your name.
Skin - Your avatar, in essence. You can pick from quite a long list, just cycle with the left and right arrow keys.
Class - Doesn't do anything in vanilla MM8BDM.
Gender - Affects the obituary for certain weapons. (Some of them use he/she/it)
    Red/Green/Blue - Don't do anything.
Always Run - Set this to on so you'll move at full speed all the time. This can be toggled with Caps Lock.
Handicap - If set to higher than 0, you'll start with less than 100 HP. Only use this if you're feeling masochistic.
Railgun Color - Doesn't do anything.
AutoAim - If an actor is close enough to you (usually another player) you will automatically shoot in their direction as long as they aren't behind you or too far to the left or right. The higher you set this, the greater the distance required for AutoAim to activate.
Unlagged - Decreases lag for certain tradeoffs. If your ping is consistently below 100, set this to off. If it's consistently above 150, turn it on. Otherwise, doesn't really matter what you do.
    Weapon Setup:
Switch on Pickup - Sets whether you automatically switch to new weapons on pickup or not. I personally set this to "Never". ("Only Higher Ranked" is a carry over from Doom 2 and has no effect on MM8BDM)
Allow Switch with No Ammo - Toggles whether you can switch to ammoless weapons or not. I believe this doesn't work in MM8BDM though. You should still set it to yes because of the way ammo works in this game.
Cycle with Original Order - Carry over, doesn't do anything.

Announcer - If you have one, select it here. As of the time of this post, MM8BDM does NOT come with an announcer. If you download Zandronum straight from its website, it does have an announcer you can use (although I personally don't recommend it).
    Announcer Volume - Self explanatory.
Undo Changes - Resets any changes you made on this visit to the Player Setup menu.

Well that's all for basic setup! If you have any questions, PM me on the forums and I'll be happy to answer!

Cutstuff Discussion and Feedback / Minor Forum Bug: Subforums
« on: December 30, 2012, 06:52:44 PM »
So you know those topics on the front page? Look specifically at Anything Goes.

See the subforum there? That says Forum Games Archive; it completely skips Forum Games.

No other forum shows its subforums on the front page. (Projects in particular)

This should probably be fixed for ease of access to the various subforums of Cutstuff.

MM8BDM Discussion / MM8BDM Wiki Revival Project: Apply Within!
« on: December 25, 2012, 10:24:29 PM »
Hello users of Cutstuff! With the recent release of MM8BDM v3a, we figured this would be the best time to revive the wiki and make it a reliable resource for newer (and possibly even veteran) players. Our goal is to bring the wiki to the standard level of a wikia and go above and beyond that if possible.

The wiki is found here.

MM8BDM Discussion / ATTN: Server Hosts, Important Info
« on: November 10, 2012, 01:55:19 AM »
Hello everyone! As you most likely don't know, we have an actual aimbotter among us! The Zand staff, being who they are, will not be able to ban him for AT LEAST 2 days, so we can at least ban him on a server-by-server basis until this is fixed.

The IP that should be banned on every server is: 96.226.92.222. The only reason I feel it right to give that IP out is because this IS a confirmed aimbotter and clan impersonator and is breaking the Zandronum Master Server rules. He also has claimed that he is ready to ban evade if necessary, so keep on the lookout for this player! (His most recent name is "PK Fire [BB]". Other names will be given upon request if so required.)

If you want physical proof, demos are provided here:

Demo #1: http://www.mediafire.com/?qt03vc6yplqxgm3
Demo #2: http://www.mediafire.com/?942o5upsazx85nj

Have a good day!

And yes, Korby gave me the green light to do this.

Forum Games Archive / Pokemon Mafia Retry: BUGS WIN!
« on: September 29, 2012, 12:21:54 PM »
It's the Pokemon mafia that is only sorta a Pokemon mafia! You see, most of the roles are from various games and movies, but the general theme of Pokemon persists.

Well no this replacement game is a Pokemon mafia so.

Rules and stuff:

1) Townies win when they eliminate all mafia and third parties. Mafia wins when they outnumber the townies. Third parties win when they've eliminated all enemies (townies, mafia, and other third parties).

2)The game is divided into Day and Night phases. You can vote to lynch someone during the day phases, and the person with the most votes will die. At night, most players can use their role abilities (although some can use abilities during the day), but no voting takes place.

3)Each phase lasts 24 hours.

4) Roles will have instructions on how to use them.

5) Discuss as much as you want to and use logic!

Now, I'm changing this up from before. I've created a new game that accommodates both smaller and larger groups, so however many people are signed up at any given point will  be able to play! Each game size is color coded on the sign up sheet.

Remaining Players:

1. Hilman Numbers [SUICUNE, TOWNIE DOCTOR] (Eaten by the bugs Night 1)
2. Donutyoshi [ARCEUS, TOWNIE SAMURAI] (Eaten well done by Joltik Night 1)
3. Michael712 [MEWTWO, TOWNIE COP] (Lynched Day 3)
4. Yellow Devil
5. TheDoc
6. Game&Watcher [SHAYMIN, VANILLA TOWNIE] Eaten by the bugs Night 3)
7. Rozark [MELOETTA, TOWNIE DOUBLE ROLEBLOCKER] (Lynched Day 2)

10. Magnet Dood [SHAYMIN, VANILLA TOWNIE] (Eaten by the bugs Night 2)
11. Galactan
12. Colonel Servbot [ARTICUNO, TOWNIE SPY] (Lynched Day 1)

THE VILLAGERS HAVE BEEN DEFEATED!

Tutorial Collection / The Casual's Guide to The Skins Folder
« on: September 28, 2012, 06:49:20 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm sure some of the newer users out there know that some people use custom skins and music, and wonder how they might use them too. The answer is in this topic!

1. The Skins Folder

The most essential piece of using custom skins and music is the Skins folder. Simply create a new folder in the same directory as the Skulltag/Zandronum client (not MM8BDM.exe!) you use to run MM8BDM and name it "skins". That's all there is to it!

2. Downloading Custom Skins and Music

You'll want to mosey on over to the Skins and Bots etc., browse the skin topics, and download the files of any skins or music packs you want. Alternatively, check here for a comprehensive list of available skins, although some download links may be broken. There is no list of music packs at the time of writing.

3. Installing Custom Skins and Music

So, now you have the files but what do you do with them? Well...:

If the file is a .wad or a .pk3...

Simply move it to your skins folder. It's that simple!

If the file is NOT a .wad or a .pk3...

If it the file is a .zip that contains the .wad(s) or .pk3(s) or any other type of archive file, simply extract the file(s) into your skins folder. If it is a .zip archive that does not contain the .wad or .pk3, then simply rename the file and change it's file extension to ".pk3", then place it in your skins folder.

4. Frequently Asked Questions

What if someone is using a custom skin I don't have?

Any person using a custom skin that you don't have will appear to be using the "base" skin (in MM8BDM's case it happens to be Megaman) UNLESS you have a skin that shares the same name as that skin, in which case that is the skin you will see.

What happens if I have two skins with the same name?

This does happen on occasion, as some skins are of the same character but are slightly (or even completely) different. In this case, the skin inside the file that is later alphabetically then the other file will have the skin name change to a default skin name ("SkinNo.XX" or something like that). It won't hurt your game in any way though, so feel free to have multiple skins with the same name!

This skin/music pack doesn't have a working link! Help!

Some skins are, unfortunately, no longer maintained for whatever reason it may be. If this is the case, you may be able to ask around for someone to send you the skin, just don't bug people too much or they won't want to help you!

What if I want to require people to have certain skins/music packs on my server?

DO NOT DO THIS, THIS ONLY ANNOYS PEOPLE AND DISCOURAGES THEM FROM COMING TO YOUR SERVER!!! Just don't do it. Seriously.

Well, I hope you learned something from this tutorial, although if you've been playing for a while you should probably know all this by now. Enjoy your skins and music!

Well, I'm sure everyone's at least heard of this, but for those of you who haven't or who don't really know what it is or how to use it, this topic is for you!

What is RCON?

RCON is pretty much the admin system of Skulltag and Zandronum. It allows you to give commands to the server using a specialized client or through the game itself instead of the main server window. It's great for those who aren't near the server itself or for setting up admins of your server.

How do I use RCON?

Well, first, the server needs to set RCON up:

    Open the server window.
    Go to "Settings"-->"Configure Server..."
    Click the "Administration" tab.
Check the box "Admins can log in remotely".
In the "Password" field, type in the password that you are giving to your administrators. (WARNING: The password is case-sensitive!)
    Click "OK".

OR (thanks to Messatsu for reminding me of this method)

    Open the server window.
In the console, type "sv_rconpassword [RCONPASSWORD]", where RCONPASSWORD is the password you are giving to your admins .(Still case-sensitive!)

Well, what do my admins do now?

Well, if your admin is doing everything from in-game:

    Connect to the server.
In the console, type "send_password [RCONPassword]", where RCONPassword is the password the server host set.
If the console displays "RCON Access Granted", you're in! If not, make sure you are using the right password and that you remember the password is case-sensitive.

On the other hand, if your admin is using an RCON client:

Well, firstly, I'll mention that this client used to come bundled with Skulltag if you downloaded it from the website, but as far as I can tell, there is no up to date one for Zandronum, pretty much making this null and void. I'll mention it anyway for anyone who has one but doesn't know how to use it.
Open up the RCON Utility client found in the Skulltag/Tools folder.
Put the server IP in the "Server" text field and put the RCON password set by the server host in the "Password" field.
A simplified server window will appear with a console field if you did this correctly. You're in!

So...what do I do with RCON?

Well, RCON lets you manipulate server variables, kick and ban other users, change the music serverwide, and more. To do this (assuming you are doing this in-game) simply put "rcon" before the command and it will recognize it as a valid command; otherwise it'll give some sort of message along the lines of "Only the server host can do this!"

A list of server variables can be found at http://wiki.zandronum.com/Server_Variables
A list of flags manipulatable via RCON can be found at http://wiki.zandronum.com/DMFlags
A list of console commands can be found at http://wiki.zandronum.com/Console_Commands
Some other console variables can be found at http://wiki.zandronum.com/Console_Variables

What is the Admin List?

(Thanks to Messatsu for clarifying some things for me)

The admin list is something I find quite interesting. If your IP is specified on this list (contained in a text file) then you:

Can join the server when it is full.
    Cannot be votekicked

If you want to set an existing text file as an admin list, just type  "sv_adminlistfile [DIRECTORY]" into the console, where DIRECTORY is where you want the file to be read from and what the file's name is.

Well, that's all for now! If I missed anything that you think I should add, let me know! I hope this helps!

Mandatory Credits:

Myself for composing the tutorial.
Messatsu for a minor addition and for clarification on the admin list.

Events / [TF2] Wynaut: The Highlander Adventure
« on: September 08, 2012, 12:30:40 PM »
Dates: Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 8:00 PM EST
Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 8:00 PM EST
Saturday, October 5, 2012 at 8:00 PM EST

So I tried to host a TF2 server and ended up finding out that it worked, so I decided to host this event because I could.

So pretty much, I thought we should all play some 9v9 Highlander matches just for the hell of it.

RULES AND SHTUFF (That I didn't actually make up so don't blame me)

-9 players per team (hence "9v9")

-Each team is limited to one of each class

-This is a Best of 3 match.

-The following weapons and items are BANNED from the match:

(click to show/hide)

-The following item sets are BANNED from the match:

    Saharan Spy
    Croc-o-Style

-The way maps will work is that each person is to suggest 3 maps. The 3 maps that get the most votes will be the three that are played on.

-A sign up template is provided here:

Steam Name:
Team: (RED or BLU)
Class: (ONLY 1 OF EACH PER TEAM)
3 Map Picks:

Note that you don't need to confirm loadouts, since the server will automatically enforce item bans.

Enjoy!

DAT SIGNUP LIST (Italics means that the player needs a replacement for the upcoming game, green means that player is confirmed to be attending):

Well I was like, I want to do a screenshot LP but I don't want to do Pokemon

So I decided, okay, it's FINAL FANTASY TIME!

Yeah, we had one a while ago, but it kinda died, so here we are!

Rules and stuff:

All battles will be fought on the latest version of Pokemon Online. (v 2.0.05)
You must use the same team for the whole tourney.
You cannot have two Pokemon with the same National Pokedex number on a team.
You lose if, at the end of your turn, two of your opponent's Pokemon were put to sleep by a move you used but were not forced into, and neither have had their sleep removed since then.
A Pokemon may not have the moves Double Team or Minimize in its moveset, or hold the items Brightpowder or Lax Incense.
A Pokemon may not have the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold in its moveset.
A team cannot have a Pokemon with the ability Moody.
Using both a Pokemon with Drizzle and a Pokemon with Swift Swim on the same team is banned.
You may not use any Pokemon on the banlist below.

Failure to comply with these rules will disqualify you from the tournament.

This tournament will be organized using the group system that's been popular in tournaments as of recently.

If we have 8 people, there will be 2 groups of 4.
If we have 16 people, there will be 4 groups of 4.
If we have 32 people, there will be 8 groups of 4.

Note that this only serves as your seeding for the tournament. EVERYONE WILL MAKE IT TO THE BRACKET. This will only determine who you fight!
