Mighty Number Nine: Inafune Strikes Back
« on: September 01, 2013, 12:55:10 AM »
There's been a lot of talk about where Mega Man is going lately, and the general consensus seems to be "nowhere fast."  With his recent inclusion in Smash4, unsureness has stirred up once more.  Regardless of whether or not CapCom can be trusted, however, I think it would be in everyone's best interest to know:  Inafune has not abandoned us.

The video explains it best, but basically, Mega Man's back—just under a brand new face.  There's a Kickstarter going on right now for the new game, and it's got a bit of a price tag associated with it, so I felt it would be a good idea to spread it as quickly as possible.  Are you excited to hear about this?

I've been trying to think of something clever to say but my own thoughts keep lapping around themselves and I don't really know how to express the joy I'm feeling right about now.

I guess I could start with "Welcome back."

I'm so ecstatic about hearing that something like this is in production and I cannot wait to hear more about it.

For me, its a big troll (its pretty LIKE megaman games), Inafune CAN do it, but the problem is: If capcom doesnt make any Megaman games soon, it can be ugly for us.

Inafune is not the problem, he can do it (his own c.right) but it's maybe bad for megaman? I feel that like a "official" rival game or competitor.....

The game looks cool too, need to see the soundtrack but i will be always with megaman (i hope). :p

It looks awesum.
It was cool to see some of the redesigned forms of some of the characters.
And as Emmanuel said, this might it's own competitor.

THIS PROJECT WILL NOT FAIL!!!

2015 seems like a long wait, but still, the concept art is quite lovely. I'm rooting for the success of this project.

I find heavy irony in this Kickstarter project. Why?
IT'S A MEGAMAN RIPOFF, CREATED BY THE CREATOR OF MEGAMAN!

Honestly, i hope this bland ripoff never sees the light of day.

I find it as much of a ripoff as Rokko-chan. But I don't see any way to judge how bland it is right now.

Do you know what that word means?

Excuse me?

It's the creator of the franchise taking back the glory that he earned.

It's not him creating a "rival" franchise, it's him giving back to the fans what they trusted him for. Many broken dreams were established with Legends 3's cancellation, and he's basically apologizing to everyone for Capcom's ignorance. He's doing this by giving a similar claim to fame with Legends 3 in which the fans had a lot of close ties to the establishment of the game itself. If anything this game should be treated as a new Mega Man series rather than an alien bootleg made to draw in Mega Man fans.

If it's made by the creator, how exactly is it a "ripoff"? It's meant to be a spiritual successor, as Capcom is doing little with the series at the moment.

EDIT: Llama beat me to it. Oh well.

I find it interesting that instead of just changing colors with new weapons, Beck's entire body morphs into different shapes. Apparently he can also get little powerups from his enemies. Kinda like Kirby, perhaps?

Some concept art for "Call", which is basically this game's incarnation of Roll. Boy does it show! Look at the one at the upper left!

I hope they go with something that isn't TOO similar to roll, but still looks good.

I'm really looking forward to this game, though this possibly breaks the chances of Megaman 11.

This looks sort of silly to me but that's probably because I don't see this as being akin to Mega Man. I won't really decide what I think of it until I see more of it.

I'm gonna say it once, and I'm gonna say it once:

This is Mega Man Universe. This is it, but without two key things: the Mega Man franchise AND the DLC rentability model (for the time being, as it's barely a comceptual project right now). The dream game Inafune talked about in the introduction video is NOT Mega Man Legends 3: it's Mega Man Universe. Ask yourself what was Mega Man Universe as gameplay and comcept you're concerned, and then compare to the key aspect of the Mighty No. 9 overarching gameplay comcept.

I certainly hope this thing is successfull. It kinda shows that game franchises are nothing by themselves, but rather it is the well-spirited fan support and the artistic aspect of development that keeps them alive. Without 'em, they're as alive as an emotion-less golem.

This is as much of a Mega Man ripoff as Jax & Daxter are a ripoff of Crash Bandicoot. BREOCK AND CRAOLL. CONETOOLS. BARIAVLE BODY SYSTEM. DOCTOR RONG. MIGHTY KID. AEROLL: those are some of the things that rushed in my mind as Mighty No. 9 was presented to me. This is a spiritual sequel to the Mega Man franchise. Not the classic Mega Man series, but the franchise overall.

This is the phrase "if it was the same game but a different robot, it would ___" turned into a real thing.

Also fucking Manami Matsumae is helping with the soundtrack. Also Inti Creates and Comcept are both working on this thing, so they're also funding it.

Capcom is waaaay toooo dumb to apologize so the creator takes it upon himself to regain forgiveness.
I feel sorry for Inafune.
