The Ghoul's Forest / Re: New Ghoul, Crackels! Custom made by me ENTIRELY! :)

"A long block of text which half of us probably did not read"... Another suggestion, don't put that down unless it's because the person put down unreadable gibberish. I put down that text as criticism for you to learn off of, not for you to quote me in a way which can sound disrespectful to others. Trust me, while I know better, others take this offense much harder and will slander you for it.

-----

Anyway... Yes, I know you can do better as shown from your access denied mod. However, if you think you are improving which does not seem like improving to others, there are many different ways to improve. I'm not putting this criticism down just for the ghouls, but anything you make in particular. Apply it to everything else on out if you find it useful, but don't just blow it off or you may only hurt yourself. I doubt you will have, because I have faith in you.

Improving in the same style which people find not working for someone, yet they continue to do so anyway, will sow seeds of doubt because the person who has yet to improve refuses to do it any other way. Consider learning through alternative methods, explore other people's wads (except for the crappy ghoul's forest 4 fanmade edition, he just copy/pasted a shitload of trees and ripped a bunch of ghouls off, AND failed to put spawning variety) and even go outside the box. Look at other action wads that have enemy replacements.

The criticism I gave earlier was also based around only trying to help you, mate. Again, just keep your head up. If you don't want to work on the ghoul or something, then just keep the criticism in mind for everything else you make so you know just what to avoid and what will be awesome. While I am quite busy, you should understand that I am quite capable of taking criticism while under heavy pressure, because it CAN help me learn how to take a load off my shoulders. Sure it's risky during those times but then I can move faster and get it done sooner, so then I can relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor.

You're a promising person dude. Its just sometimes it will benefit you if you read the valid arguments, acknowledge that you read them and understand what we are trying to get at, and then you can put down your reasoning. Like my dad used to say, "Shut up and listen, THEN you can argue."

And yes, I know I sound like an English professor or a history instructor that most would blow off, but it's how I get the pointers across to some folks who are in need of the most core-driving changes which will help make their fruits better.

Funny thing is... We all need to post videos to prove that one is a champion. Otherwise I'm beginning to think this is a thread for the biggest lies I've ever heard like Pucy's 1hp claims.

Then again I'm a narcissistic bastard who doesn't believe in anything without proof, and assumes everything is shit unless proved and certified otherwise.  :ugeek:

To repeat what I said earlier... This applies to the ancient ghoul that was first made in real life, although they are myths.

Quote from: "Major Cooke"
Okay... The first ghoul (and real ghoul) is based around an arabian myth of a hyena-ish creature that has a name similar to "iblis", meaning Satan's children. They attack and eat other animals along with preying on small children and weaker beasts, and live in the deserts. It was merely a myth to scare children as a bad bedtime story.

Cutman's versions are similar, only they are represented by spirits who desire revenge against humankind. They aren't like lions, tigers, and bears (OH MY!). They have human-like shapes instead of hyenas, and have different ways of killing people.

Lets not forget, they were reincarnated spirits put into physical objects that represented something which can frighten people easily... and kill them even easier if they have a panic attack, which is the case for newcomers since they are trying to recover.

The real-world ancient ghouls don't attempt to devour souls though, just flesh.

Okay. I'm not going to go very easy. I'm going to deliver it straight to you on what I think. This is the only way you're going to learn about what hard-core constructive criticism can do and how it makes people into true men. This is how I learned it, so you can try taking my advice or you can ignore it, either way it's up to you.

But first, some pointers on what you should not say when submitting something:

Quote
"Go easy, it's my first <name-of-project-or-wip-here>"

If you say this, you'll often have people look at it and question whether they really want to download it or not. It did for me and I wasn't surprised at seeing something which some people here have call a ripoff of the jitterskull. Instead, just do something simple like "let me know what you think" or clearly state it's incomplete or something so we know about it, so therefore we can go easy.

Quote
"First "off" ghoul. This kinda shit is being voted away for that reason."

I agree with Wartorn here. If you personally feel inclined to think that it's something special, don't say so if the rest feel the opposite way, unless you acknowledge the reasons. Just nod your head and be on your way, otherwise you'll be considered a stubborn one.

Title: "...Custom made by me ENTIRELY-"

You are only lying to yourself at this point. Whether you really knew it or not when you first uploaded it I cannot tell, for I am not you, but I'm sure you know that by now it's not going to pass. Plus, you let others down when they see it, and the grin on their faces is suddenly smacked off so hard, blistering scars of disappointment and anger cover the lips like cold sores.

-----

Now... About the ghoul itself...

I can partially see what your trying to do, but like much of the bandwagon it's just too much like the jitterskull. You need to make it more unique, something FAR away in terms of distance from any of the first three ghouls. I'm making a ghoul, and it does stuff that has a few bits of which some of the ghouls can perform in GvH (jitterskull charging, just to name one), but it's far different than the rest. In fact, it's a death angel, not a ghoul at all. But anway... Uniqueness needs to be worked on, and should be almost completely revamped.

I'm sorry if this sounds offensive but you do seem slightly resistant to the other folks, and your friends constructive criticism by repeatedly stating for them to go easy on you. Doing so is just like flinging shit on their rooftops and their windows. They'll only get harder. I for one am being hard because it does appear that you need some good advice, and you need it badly.

I had some more criticism but unfortunately I don't remember what I was going to say since it's midnight here, and I'm tired. If I remember it, I'll post it here. Don't take offense to it, it's only constructive criticism that's trying to help you out. To quote Ben Yahtzee:

Quote
...Instead of crucifying the game, like I usually do, I figured that I would make Turok 2 as an example of what game developers should NOT do.

Take it all with spirit, and work towards making a better edition. Then, you can feel the pride thumping in your heart for all the hard work you've done and be amazed at just how well people will react when you reform it.

To me, the trolls/flamers play the ghouls because... well, they want to be assholes to other people.

I will admit that servers not occasionally swapping out for some fresh air is the server owners faults, and they are to blame for the congestion of GvH. It's not Cutman's fault at all. Cutman, you made a really good wad. It's just some people over-exaggerate the dominance of GvH over other wads...

What the fuckery? No! I love GVH. It's the only thing I ever play these days, besides armageddon invasion when I get bored of testing AEoD.

It won't happen in my opinion.

Note to self: Provide pictures or a video to ensure credibility is correct.

Um...

I made an offline skirmish pure DM server for fun, loaded it with 8 humans and 8 ghouls... I ended up at the top of the list before I stopped because I was getting bored. The jitterskulls were just underneath me, lucky bastards.

Or just add Leonard from Redneck Rampage. Give him a chicken launcher, and everyone will have fun with him for hours. Even the ghouls will find him playful enough NOT to eat him at first sight! :P
