Help with combat in Pillars of Eternity

I am rather new to Pillars of Eternity and am still a bit perplexed with the combat system. I know that, in combat, there is a balance of hit points and endurance with my characters, but I don’t understand how the two (hit points and endurance) come into play. How does the combat system revolve around them? And how does magic come into play? I don’t really understand how magic works in the game as well. I guess I have so much to learn, but I am eager to find out!!! Can someone please provide some guidance on how all this works? And advice about combat strategy would really help too. Thanks so, so much!
