[Maps] xCFx's Pile of Really Old Maps
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:34:55 PM »
After looking through the wiki, I've decided to make a topic for all my ridiculously old maps so some people might actually take a look at them.

Volcanic Mines
For a scrapped map pack. Ironically, my personal favorite original map.

Corrupted Drain
For a scrapped map pack. This place is huge and a bit tricky to get around, but it could be useful for something.

Scrap Metal Refinery
For a scrapped map pack. Probably my least favorite map; I got really lazy with the "upstairs" section...

Block Fort
A perfect re-creation of Block Fort from Mario Kart 64. Complete with randomized weaponry!

Simple Grifball Court
The precursor to Wager Matches. One Flag CTF at its silliest.
Note: Top Spin should not be used on people about to pick up the flag. Apparently that breaks things.

Tell me what you guys think about these and I might end up making more.

waitwaitwaitwaitwait WHAT

YOU'RE the one who made Block Fort? AND you did Grifball!?

Holy mother of Cosmos I remember playing those maps back in the day! I even persuaded an old pal of mine to host them on the campus server! Man those were good times.

I'm already impressed so I'm downloading the other three by default. :ugeek:

I'm going to be blunt.

The second and third maps suck.

The second is just a ton of squares, with lava pillars and oil pits randomly thrown in, while the third is a clusterfuck of gimmicks thrown together in a rectangle covered in head to toe in Metal Man textures. Not to mention you put GRAVITY HOLD for whatever reason in a reasonably easy to reach place where there's a high bridge over you.

The third would be great for a tutorial map on how the conveyor belts, fire traps, crushers and quickbeams work, but otherwise they're just awful. Though these are old, so I guess I can allow some leeway.

I suggest trying again.

Already noted. See their descriptions.

The second map was me being unable to come up with a good, interesting layout for a sewer. The third was me trying to come up with something that looked interesting, but ultimately ended up as a load of scrap.

The third would be great for a tutorial map on how the conveyor belts, fire traps, crushers and quickbeams work, but otherwise they're just awful. Though these are old, so I guess I can allow some leeway.

I'd definitely consider making some more actually halfway-decent maps at some point in the future. That is, assuming I can come up with a layout.

...I might actually make The Cage 2.0. Looks simple enough and interesting.

I still have some CSCC to finish up anyways.
