MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM v5 - Weapon Tuning (Leaf Shield)
« on: June 08, 2016, 10:56:25 AM »
Gotta be honest, I have no feedback or suggestions for current Leaf Shield. I've never had a problem with the weapon, and it's always seemed like one of the better shield weapons in both uniqueness and usability.

Just throwin' this out there. It's odd that this one is being considered as opposed to certain other weapons.

Though I will say that it's worth checking up on what weapons are in the maps that have Leaf Shield. That's a key part of what can make the weapon balanced or not.

Fucking love that new Brightman update! That suddenly looks so much better now!

I've never noticed anything odd about MM4DIV's colours somehow. Then again map colours isn't something I ever focus on so eh.
Really looking forward to playing some of these new maps, especially MM4DIV!

It's been nearly 3 weeks since the weapon tuning thread has been active and it really should be up and running again.

I'm saying here because I don't want to double post, neither do I want to look like too much like a pushy prick.

Rejected / Re: [Suggestion] Indicate time left for assist items

I second this.

Treble Sentry, Tango Roll and Reggae might not be in need of it, but the others would definitely benefit from this. Now that you mention it, it's surprising that Item-1 doesn't already have the blink before it disappears.

Could probably be used in a custom map or custom expansion someday, just as long as it calls for enemies as decorations or things to interact with.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Did you know??? MM8BDM
« on: May 30, 2016, 10:14:14 AM »
Did you know that the current sound effect for Leaf Shield is a version of the sound that is looped once? In Megaman 2, Lead Shield would repeatedly play a short sound, but in MM8BDM this sound plays twice each time it is used. Presumably done to provide better playback during gameplay, especially online.

Did you know that certain Doom creatures can be summoned while having their appearances be that of a Robot Master? For example, typing "Summon centaur" in the console, will summon a Centaur from Doom, but with the appearance of Centaurman from MM6.

Did you know that the Instagib Metal Blade uses sound differently to most other weapons? Rather than having the player make the firing sound, the Instagib Metal Blade has the high speed projectile play the sound, to create a more intense effect for when a player almost gets hit by one.

Did you know that you shouldn't type "Summon ammo" into the console?

Not saying I like the design, but it isn't my main issue with this. I feel like the whole Classic series Megaman mixed with new schoolkid robot doesn't really work too well. Almost seems like it could be it's own thing.

Not going to pass final judgement yet though.

Doubt I'd even be able to watch it. It'll be on Cartoon Network right? It's been years since I've set foot on those channels.

Seems like they're going with classic series and....well, this won't appeal to those who loved the games.

As it stands, I have a feeling the Ruby Spears cartoon would be more worth watching. I can't believe I actually just said that.

Just going to throw this out there.

Therapy is definitely worth considering when dealing with depression. I don't think I ever mentioned it here before, but I was dealing with depression last year and to be honest, I never fully recovered. Since it's causing a lot of procrastination getting in the way of my online courses and productive hobbies, I've finally taken up therapy, specifically an online one where the people there have PHDs and whatnot.

It took me so long because about 80% of people that I mentioned my depression to replied saying "have you seen a doctor about it?". I never did see one because I knew they couldn't help out the thing that was causing my depression (not being socially satisfied. College ruined me in that aspect). Anti-depressants were not the way forward. Since everyone mentioned doctor, I didn't realize there would have been other options. Don't go down that same path as me.

If you're in need of help because of depression, see a therapist about it. Not only do they want to help you, but they're qualified to help you!

I completely understand that Dr. Cossacks's tie is green, but I do still feel like Cossack's team should remain orange. Though since King's team kinda goes better as Gold than purple, mostly for the sake of King himself.

Essentially:

Cossack's team: Orange
King's team: Gold

Sounds slightly dumb, but the idea should at least be played around a little.

Stardroids purple or dark blue I guess. Depends if they are truly led by Sunstar or not.

MM8BDM Discussion / Still not sure how I feel about the 128 radius.

Protoshield won't block explosions -- this is something the player will learn very quickly. It's not bad game design, just a little miscommunicated for the first 10 seconds it happens.
It makes sense for the shield to not block explosions. The bad game design that I'm mentioning is the fact that the lack of explosion indicator (no effects or MM4 version exploding) causes confusion for those who try to block the attack.

It's similar to other games where you try to block an attack that looks blockable, only to fail at it. You feel confused, and took damage due to something that doesn't feel like your fault.

Though this issue is probably going to get fixed up anyway at the moment.

It's not so much the layout itself that bothers me. It's more to do with how said layout doesn't go too well with the texture set and sky.

For awhile I've been in favour of changing the base skin, as it just seems silly to have loads of Megamans running around in online matches, which ends up happening a lot. It's also degrading for Megaman, as he's the main hero of the series and makes an appearance in the game, not being the player character.

While I've liked the idea of the base skin being Sniper Joe, due to them being mass produced, I'm starting to like Maestro more. Makes more sense for Dr. Light to make a robot like Maestro, especially since he probably stopped making Joe robots.

I say change the bass skin to Maestro. If not, Sniper Joe. It really is about time the base skin stopped being Megaman. Just make it clear at the start of the game that the player currently has their appearance-changing-thing disabled. Do so through Dr. Light's introduction thing.

Keep Cossack.

I know it's beyond our control, but having 6 teams available with only 4 of them playing at once sounds good. Adds more team variety and options.

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: MM8BDM v5 - Weapon Tuning (Pharaoh Shot)

Pharaoh Shot's explosion radius has a 128 unit radius.
What.

Okay seriously, that's too much. I don't mind the idea of an AoE effect for this weapon, however:
-128 radius sounds too high, especially compared to Drill Bomb.
-There's no clear indicator that it explodes. This causes confusion to unaware players when they take damage from a near miss, and when they take damage after blocking the attack with Proto Shield. This is an example of bad game design.

The above needs to be fixed up. I've also never liked how the fully charged shot overshadows the uncharged and mid-charged shot. Not certain on how to go about this. Maybe speed up the less charged shots?

Quote from: "MusashiAA"
If a time limit is used as Pharaoh Shot's charge holding penalty, then maybe a larger span like 6 or 10 seconds should be more fitting to an offensive weapon like it, and for the giant compressed heat ball to dissipate. I wouldn't advise it, though: it feels like an awful idea in execution.
I actually kinda like the idea of the projectile being weaker if held up for too long. Similar to what the Huntsman did in Team Fortress 2, where if at the ready for too long it looses accuracy and critical hit chance, a fully charged Pharaoh shot could be slightly less powerful (~10 damage less) and lose its explosion effect. Of course, clear indicators would need to be in place. This would still let players hold a fully charged shot, but discourage them from always having it at the ready.
