Note, despite being a moba, it's not your typical league/dota style gameplay. It's a different style all in its own. Watch the trailer ;)

General Gaming Discussion / Youtube Copyright Controversy.
« on: December 18, 2013, 05:57:42 PM »
Many of you have probably heard of Youtube cracking down again on copyrights, mostly affecting gaming channels, network based and non networked based. Most disturbingly, this change allows any copyright enforcement company to automatically search videos for content, then flag the video for a copyright claim if it "violates" a copyright by using content without permission. Even if it's a few seconds of a clip of something, it can and will result in a claim. This, of course, is leading to trouble. Many gaming channels suddenly found themselves with copyright claims that were automatically claimed by Google and other 3rd parties. Angry Joe found himself with over 60 claims on some of his most viewed videos immediately after the copyright changes went into effect, and on his claims, it shows what copyright it violates, and it got quite ridiculous. His live interview with Tomb Raider got a copyright claim for using content from Tomb Raider, even though the people from tomb raider were fine with it. The penalty for these copyright claims are to pay a fine to the copyright holders, then carry on as if nothing happened.

This topic has been all over Kotaku, Youtube, and other sites, and I must say, I really think Youtube is starting to take a turn for the worst. I opened this topic up for discussion on the subject, so feel free to state your opinions here.

Anything Goes / The Comment Box: An internet documentary by Jman
« on: November 14, 2013, 03:56:59 PM »
Here is where I screenshot and report on the comment boxes of various websites, and share the glorious quality and insight of what people have to say about the works of young artists and video makers on sites such as youtube and deviantart. This thread will update sporadically, for geniuses need time to think on their sophisticated and well-formulated comments that will further success those that read them. Enjoy, my fine chaps.

Events / [Livestream] J's thursday streams
« on: June 17, 2013, 01:43:18 AM »
Howdy ho! I'd like to announce my new streaming channel on twitch. Others are getting into the whole streaming thing, so this is kind of a test. I'll play games here and there of all sorts. My first stream is going to be a (speed) run of portal, then maybe a few small things afterwards if people are still watching. My streams will be on thursdays around 8 PM, Central US time when available, but I'll let you know if it's different.

Here is the URL, for great justice!

Current Schedule:
June 20 - 8:00 PM (may be subject to delay) ; I'll be playing portal! <this was cancelled due to nobody coming>
June 27 - 9:00 PM ; I'm going to play SCP Containment breach... yeah I don't know how this'll turn out.

General Gaming Discussion / Cubeworld! A minecraft style action game?
« on: June 13, 2013, 06:13:08 PM »
I'm here to bring up a rather interesting looking game known as cubeworld. It has elements of a lot of different games, most notably minecraft, and has a very unique look and feel to it. Take a look for yourselves!

Personally, I think that the world generation in this game looks amazing.

General Gaming Discussion / Age of Empires II HD - Steam
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:31:39 AM »
Just a heads up for a remake of one of the greatest RTS games of all time. Those of you retro pc gamers definitely know this game. Its graphics are going to be revamped (but not drastically changed), the multiplayer will be revived with a master server from steam (meaning you won't have to use an annoying 3rd party matchmaker), and it will be compatible with windows 7!

General Gaming Discussion / State of the Gaming Industry - Discuss
« on: February 22, 2013, 08:24:35 PM »
So... what do you think about the gaming industry so far? On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the majority of games made today? Anything you like/dislike about modern games in particular? If you wanted games to change in the future, how would you want them? That's what this topic is for. Just opinions here and there (non-controversial please, I don't want any flame wars).

Honestly, I like a lot of games made from Nintendo as of now. I didn't like the wii games very much, but the 3DS and Wii U are making a great comeback. My main issue is that games don't seem very challenging anymore. It may be that I'm just a well seasoned gamer, but it literally feels as though many games, rated E and M alike, practically hold your hand through tutorials, puzzles, boss fights, and more. It's as if the gaming companies think that I as a gamer have absolutely no thought processes and can't function while playing a game. My second complaint is the huge emphasis on online play. As much as I love dominating noobs online in pvp games, many games with online pvp often have mediocre single player modes with bland storylines, and I do like to play by myself every now and then. My third complaint is the overall difficulty of games (as stated earlier). A lot of games just seem too easy now. Sure, there are games with adjustable difficulties, but only a few games are able to have that feature without completely ruining the effect of the game itself. Take Kid Icarus Uprising and Call of Duty for example. Kid Icarus Uprising has a difficulty system that gradually urges you to try higher difficulties, but you can set it exactly to what you want it to be. 9.0 is brutal, but possible if you try hard enough. As with Call of Duty, the difficulty only comes in several increments on the single player mode. The highest difficulty is complete lunacy, for it simply makes the game completely unplayable. The AI's do everything they possibly can to kill you, and kill you very quickly. This doesn't really work in a game where you can't dodge enemy attacks or devise a strategy to take them down before they kill you.
All this set aside, though. I'm starting to notice a rise in independent game development. After playing games like Super Meat Boy and Cave story, I see that games not made for mass media seem to still cling to the traditional elements of game development, despite the game makers having extremely limited resources. This gives me hope that games in the future may be what I'm looking for.

Anything Goes / A little spritin'
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:50:40 AM »
inb4 someone makes an anyone's sprite thread

I've taken yet another interest recently in spriting, and I'm quite pleased with how some of it is turning out! I plan to make a simple game called "netplay", where the main character, Zeke, has to save the internet from a deadly virus. Here's what I've got so far.

Anything Goes / A little something I'm working on
« on: October 15, 2012, 03:34:17 AM »
There's a short novel I'm working on that I may make into an action-adventure game in the future if I go into game development. Feedback is appreciated! I'll gladly take suggestions as to where the novel will go in direction if I get stuck in writing.

A well done online yugioh card game simulator, fanmade of course.

Note: Due to how complicated the rules of yugioh are, everything in the game is manual, so you have to know the rules before you play.

The WWW board / Jman's Touhou Playthrough! Touhou 7 in progress
« on: July 09, 2012, 04:24:20 PM »
I made a channel on youtube for my touhou videos. I plan to playthrough all of the windows series games (and maybe the pc-98 games if i can get them to work) on hard mode, as well as clear all of the extra stages. I'm making good progress so far. I've beaten every one of them on hard except MoF and UFO, the real challenge now is just beating hard mode with style, not cheesing my way through it with bombs. So enjoy!
