For my sick and morbid curiosity, I'd like to know folks' top and bottom 5 favorite deathmatch vanilla maps.

Why? It may not point out the "best" made map in vanilla, but it really helps to find "popular picks" and might show correlation with certain design choices with their popularity.

While ya pick yar tops and bottoms, ya don't need to order yar choices or need to explain why for simplicity's sake. I also encourage ya to try and consider the map with weapon, item, and health layouts but when ya choose yar maps it's ultimately base'd on yar own criteria.

IMPORTANT RULE: This is all folks' OPINION. Do NOT under any circumstance attack anyone for their choices of their top and bottom 5 favorites. Also, keep the discussions clean too.

I will eventually tally the results, so please try to fill yar picks with 5 choices.
Thanks and have fun!

My Tops:
MM2DW1
MM5DAR
MM8SWO
MM8SEA
MM8DW1

My Bots:
MM2BUB
MM2CRA
MM4DIV
MM5WAV

W.I.P Forum / The Idea(s) Topic
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:05:42 PM »
Ever got a project idea that yar not too sure that it'll work? Or maybe ya have a brilliant idea, but no work has been done at all? Here's a good place to dump stuff into, and hopefully mature into a topic worthy of bein' a WIP topic. And, of course, ultimately into a full fledged project!

Rejected / Linedef fixes
« on: November 18, 2011, 03:36:49 PM »
As I have already scanned through the IX Pack and AMP. I might as well do the same to the main pk3 for maps that have linedefs that lack the block monster property where its needed.

MM1FIR: They can get stuck in the fire trap areas, but addin' block monsters there shouldn't hurt.
MM2QUI: Although it has no pits, I suggest that ya add block monster so that bots won't run into the beams.
MM3TOP: Spike pit area.
MM4TOA: Waterfall to the pit area.
MM4BRI: One step on the side pit of the map.
MM4DUS: All bots can be crushed. Maybe a linedef on the crusher area wouldn't hurt.
MM6YAM: Conveyer belt sides.
MM6MRX: The outside buildin' with Gyro Attack, one of the side that's close to the main buildin'.
MM7SHA: Spiral staircase area.

I gotta say, I'm surprised to find this many mistakes, but ratio wise this is pk3 that has the least amount of problems. Also I noticed somethin' odd. There's a clank sound whenever the main Freeze Cracker breaks, but I never heard it online.

Last thin', a little shout out to my weapons and items tweak topic. I changed the polls and I want folks that voted to vote again for changes on weapons and such.

Help & Editing / Rippers, How do they work?
« on: October 21, 2011, 05:38:46 PM »
It's been a long time since I've had this question, but due to bein' quite lazy, I've never have found the answer at the moment.
Let's take Metal Blade and Ice Slasher for a moment.

Metal Blade:
Code: [Select]
actor MetalBlade
{
PROJECTILE
scale 2.5
+RIPPER
+DONTBLAST
Speed 40
Radius 3
Height 4
Damage (14)
States
{
Spawn:
METL AB 3
loop
}
}

Ice Slasher:
Code: [Select]
actor IceSlasher
{
PROJECTILE
Radius 5
Height 5
scale 2.5
damagetype "Ice2"
damage (11)
+RIPPER
speed 22
States
{
Spawn:
ICES AB 3
loop
}
}

A player is 16 in radius and 52? in height. For each tic, when the porjectile is in the target's body it deals damage. My problem is how much damage is calculated when the projectile is half-way into the target's body.
For instance, If an attacker is 40 units away from a dummy and threw a Metal Blade and in 1 tic the Metal Blade would have 3 of its radius inside the target and the other stickin' out. Now how much damage would that be?

MM8BDM Discussion / Weapons Damage per Second Chart
« on: September 07, 2011, 09:30:04 PM »
Well as a few folks might have seen my experiments, I am currently workin' on gatherin' information on how much damage weapons will do in either a minute or a second. I have found a way to find a good testin' conditions so I can eliminate as much outside variables as I can. They will be in the spoilers below.

(click to show/hide)

For folks who want to contribute to this "project", use the above settin's and post yar data below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Old data found from MM3SHA lab.
(click to show/hide)

[*]Since there are many variables for this weapon, I will not test the damage.
[**]All AoE weapons are done at point blank and with other weapons as well.
[***] All weapon damage is gathered through a 2 minute trial with the given conditions on the spoiler above.[/spoiler]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update:
I've made a map that suits my needs for further weapons testin'. Here's a few screenshots for what it looks like.
There are 2 versions, one for single-player and the other is for multiplayer. For Single player version to work, the map must be opened from DoomBuilder.

Multi: http://www.mediafire.com/?2248nq671n2aijb

I fear that there might be some differences between my lab and MM3SHA so I'll post my test results from the lab here and the above results from MM3SHA. Same test conditions apply here in my lab as well, such as the 2 minute rule, point blank rule with certain weapon, and everythin' else.

Help & Editing / BUGGER MY SERVER!!!
« on: August 18, 2011, 08:30:03 PM »
Recently I'm havin' problems where I can NOT host my server what-so-ever.
I have my port forwarded correctly, however it still will not show up on Doomseeker.
I do have it to broadcast to the server list.

I'm stumped, and I can not figure out any other way to fight this bugger...

Help & Editing / Text Glitch
« on: June 16, 2011, 04:00:43 AM »
Now this problem has haunted me for quite a while, so now would be a good time to solve this problem.
This thin' what I call the "Text Glitch" happens VERY randomly. Sometimes I will get a slight client lag, and then the glitch happens. For some reason, my keyboard loses the ability to type in English characters and SkullTag will not recognize what I'm tryin' to type in. Strange thin' is that it will almost always know whenever I press my chat button "t" and Esc, but nothin' else. So I can't try to talk to others that I have the Text Glitch, since it won't read my "Enter" command. If I try to type, I will get some non-sense characters. If I type very fast, the game will start givin' me beepin' sounds. This beep is from the game, not my computer. The only way to "fix" this glitch is for me to close the game and reopen it.

I tried to get screenshots, but the glitch won't pick up the screenshot button input.

Why does this happen?
How do I fix it if I get it?

Thanks for anyone who helps!

Help & Editing / Host IP change
« on: June 12, 2011, 03:57:51 AM »
About 2 weeks ago, I got to host for the 1st time with my new router. After 2 days, the IP of my server changed (strangely), so I had to reconfigure the router to get the server to show up. Here's the catch though.

The 1st few times when I hosted, I could host my server and get DoomSeeker to reload servers, browse the internet, and whatnot. But now if I host, I could not do any of the said thin's. Is there a way to make sure ya can change yar server's IP address, so I won't be locked down to only hostin' my server? Other that hostin' another server... which means I must configure the router for THAT server alone. :

MM8BDM Discussion / Fantasy Match-Ups
« on: June 01, 2011, 05:34:14 AM »
As all of us know, not everyone who plays MM8BDM plays anymore. However, those who do not play anymore are still remembered and whatever they left behind for the community will be eternal for those who remember.

Some play to have fun, to win, to compete, or just to improve. We can't always play, and we watch what we can't play. Sometimes we can't watch what we always want to watch, so in this topic, I'd like to hear out what match-ups ya fantasize, and would wish to see. Ya may discuss about other people's fantasies, but please keep it civil.
While makin' yar post, please have the required information.

Fantasy Match-Up Mode:
Players:
Map(s):
Limits:
Flags and conditions:
Any other special conditions: (Usually stuff that SkullTag can't keep track of, like use one weapon only for any mode or Best of 5 for duels)

Here's an example

Without further a due, here's my fantasies.

Flags and conditions: Crouching enabled, No Autoaim, and Enable ChaseCam

Fantasy Match-Up Mode: Duel

Map(s): MM3HAR, MM3TOP, MM5NAP

NOTE: This topic's purpose is not to bring these people to fight for yar enjoyment! It is only here for people to LIST who they would wish to see to fight. Whether people actually bring fantasy games to reality are up to the combatants (listed here by the posters) if they really want to fight or not.

MM8BDM Discussion / Advertising
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:13:53 PM »
After a few thoughts and such, I want to know somethin'. I come around servers stealin' people to come to my server through my...

SHAMELESS PROMOTION AND ADVERTISING!!!

Whether I come to advertise for Bot Apocalypse or anythin' else or to promote a mode that's not well known, I want to know how people feels about it.
I could host servers and popularize new (as my server is rather popular), however there comes some ethics problem when I advertise. Again, I would like to hear yar opinions about this.

Do ya like it?
Do ya hate it?
Do ya not care?

Give a reason why ya think so. I do not want to hurt anyone's feelin's here, so please take no offense when ya read this topic.

On a brighter note, my 200th post! Yay :D!!!

MM8BDM Discussion / Your Favorite Players
« on: April 28, 2011, 10:13:27 PM »
Off the top of the bat, yes this is more or less a popularity contest.

Over the past few topics of “Who’s the Best Player?”, all of them unintentionally transformed into a popularity contests. It derides the meanin’ of the original post, so I though why not make one that’s actually made for the purpose of comparing popularity?

In this contest, people will be chosen not by skill, but by whether ya like the person or not. Ya may like the person for what ever reason. I just care that if ya like a certain person in the MM8BDM community or not.
The rules are simple and those who do not follow them will not have their vote counted towards the final scores.

1. You may pick up to 5 people to vote for (in no order); no more but can be less. If someone does order their picks, they all still get one point regardless.
2. You may not vote for yarself.
3. Don't say anyone that ya don't like.
4. Not really a rule, but I highly discourage namin’ reasons why ya pick certain people over others. This prevents (more or less) potential flame wars, and people whinin’ against each other. Yes I know 5 people is not a lot of votes, but that is the point.
5. Not really a rule again, but please keep this civil and sane.

With that all said and done, I’ll cast my vote

MM8BDM Discussion / Bot Apocalypse
« on: March 31, 2011, 06:12:39 PM »
Yesterday, I've discovered a rather interesting mode that people should look into. It's not an official mode with wad mods or any of those fancy stuff. What it is, is a TLMS done in a certain fashion. I call it Bot Apocalypse, but some people call it Humans vs Bots (this is totally not a Ghouls vs Humans ripoff and I have not played Ghouls vs Humans myself). Here's the setup for this mode. One downside is that a player must monitor the server all the time.

Step 1: Set TLMS with team selection on.

Step 2: When setting up teams, the first game must have an imbalanced team. Anywhere from 2v3 to 1v8 to 4v6 works, but I find that 1v(insert handful of player number) works best.

Step 3: This is where the server host must come in to do this part. When the game starts, the team with lesser amount of players cannot die or this step will be messed up. The play who controls the server adds in many many bots (around 16 bots usually). The bots will all go into the team with lesser amount of players the next game.

Step 4: The TLMS plays like usual till the win limit is hit. Yes, I know things will get laggy, but that's outta almost everyone's control.

Step 5: After the game is over, all bots must be removed for the next game and the process is repeated all over.

Now with the setup out of the way, here's a "tradition" that most of the Bot Apocalypse games do. Once there are around 6+ players in the server player, one player will be a "leader" in the bot team. If there is less than the said number of players, there usually does not have a bot leader for the game. That play style with the bot leader is optional, but remember that if too many human players are in the bot team or if the bots are evenly spread throughout the teams then it will defeat the purpose of Bot Apocalypse. With that all said and done, I'd like to hear what people would say on how they feel or think about this mode.

MM8BDM Discussion / Unofficial Weapon Tiers (Updated!)
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:28:42 AM »
First of all this is what the title says, this list is completely unofficial. This list is based off of opinions of others and my thoughts and opinion. Weapons will be placed in a tier list (in no particular order within same rank), and the tier is based off of usage of the weapons in DUELS. Exploits do not count forward toward the tiers. Also note that both duelist have the same range of ping and lag.

Any thoughts are appreciated, so the tier list can be more and more “accurate”.
