BEan's Server (DOWN)
« on: July 15, 2010, 02:24:27 AM »
I got a server going, everything updated.
using the mm8bdm offical launcher

Title: BEan's MM8BDM
Ip:  goodbean.dyndns.info
Location: St. Louis area USA
Random map rotation
It is showing up on the server list

send me a PM if there is any problems
also I may change the name of the server or move the server, If I can convince my clan to pick it up for me. I would only shut it down if It causes problems for me.

BTW could somebody tell me if they see my server on any doom server list program like doomseeker or ide.

For some reason my server is not showing up in the skulltag server list. Is there something I need to set up or check?

also how do I save a config file?

First, make sure you have port 10666 open. Secondly, they won't show up in the server list because of this: http://cutstuff.net/blog/?p=2234

Try having someone connect to your IP. If that works, then your ports are open fine and you either need to tell everyone to connect via IP or upgrade to 98c final.

Port is open, using the latest skulltag .98c-r2840, and I have had a few friends and some guy named "smooth" (said he got the info from the forums)  connect last night. When I asked my friend to do a filtered search through doomseeker my server won't show up.

The title of my server should say "BEan's MM8BDM"

Ah sheeet I just noticed something which I completely forgot about. I need to add this to the guide.

On the server window click settings. In the server information tap there's a checkbox for "visible to public". Doh!

That is what I missed, thanks. Could somebody tell me if they can see the server or not.

I have another theory, peerblock my be stopping the signal. What is the ip address of the skulltag listing server?

Nevermind I got everything working now. I still would like to know skulltag's master list server ip address so that I can put it in my white list.

I am going to take my server down, until the update or I can find somebody else to host it. The main reason being is that nobody uses and its starting to cause some interference on other programs an such.  I have been looking at my rCon and logs and noticing that its just been wrong version or random people would connect, realize its empty, and then leave.  I have set up the QOS settings for my router to give a high priority to my mm8bdm server and had to made some adjustments to other services. I simply wanted to make sure I have done everything right, For the last week when ever I play a different game, use xbox live, or whatever I have have thought of "this may be screwing up my server". If I was able to notice the lag and interference, there is a chance that my family might find out and start asking questions.  The last thing is that I don't want my isp to come down on me for running this server, considering its likely against the TOS I have with charter. I wouldn't want any of those "you have a virus", "you have a server cut it out", "you have suspicous activity", or "you have a server, we are going to bump you up to a higher rate" letters. Even though I never heard of My ISP doing that, I am not going to chance it anymore. I know what you thinking, and your wrong, ISP's have done this before. Remeber when modern Warefare 2 came out with the P2P IW.net.

I am going to try to convince the Ruca clan to host a server, but It may be a difficult until the final version and since there is no TCadmin like compatability with a webpage to start, stop, and restart the server.

Screw that.

I just figured out my main problem, a computer on my network was infected and started to suck up my bandwidth. I have decided that sometime this week I will bring my server back online, the main difference is that I will try something a bit different. I have an idea for an experiment that could make things a bit more interesting on the server side.

I might keep the server up after my experiment.
