Best Ever vs Regular Servers
«

For quite some time now I've been suspicious of the servers running under "Best Ever" that appear in Doomseeker's server list. It feels like any server that doesn't host in BE is doomed to have a very low number of players at one time or none at all.
Personally, I never used BE, primarily for the sole fault I find it to have, aside from an over-the-top account setup process: The random automated "Server" announcements that are dumped out.

You're suspicious? Do you think Best Ever is illegally accumulating players somehow?
Best Ever servers are rather stable and reliable, and are pretty much always available. It's not really any surprise that they're popular.
Also worth noting that BE regularly hosts saxton hale, which is currently the most popular game mode.

I have to use BE because I cannot host normally. That's really the only reason I started using BE in the first place. A BE server is almost like a dedicated server.

Hmm, looks like I'll have to host a BE server myself and see what happens.
Anyone got a tutorial?

First of all, you're going to need an IRC client- Doomseeker has one bundled in. As for Best-Ever's own requirements,
I'm not really sure where you could find them.

Where would I find the IRC client in Doomseeker and where I type "/msg nickserv register <password> <email>"?
P.S. Just to get this out of the way: with BE is it possible to add in every map that all active WADs provide into the playlist so they don't have to be added by hand?

It's the green and blue bubble near the top of the Doomseeker window. As for the server, you'll need to make a custom config. Not certain on that part myself.

Create a file in Notepad with all the configurations you want (in the format of lines you'd enter into the console). When you save the file, save it as a .cfg file. Then upload this to the Best-Ever website. Load it as the config parameter in the IRC host line.
