Hardest game you ever beat?

Name the hardest game you've owned and beat. The one that left you sweaty, bloody and battered after hours of play. Whether it was to do with bad controls, overall difficulty or whatever, let's hear it.

For me it's gotta be Gradius 2. I know Gradius 3 arcade is harder but I cannot for the life of me beat that crystal stage. Gradius 2 though is still REALLY damn hard. I've had this game twice but I finally beat it on the PS2 Gradius collection. The gun wall killed me about 5 gajillion times, he's just BRUTAL unless you know the trick to beat him (which I did not).

Gradius

played this on GB (where it was called Nemesis for some reason). I always liked it a lot.

It falls into somewhat the same league as Major Stryker. Many of these arcade-style shooters ar epushing it: You can upgrade your guns until you're wiping out everything you see, but one wrong tur and you're back to your single-shot. And it just gets worse from there...

Oh heck, I actually haven't beaten many games, despite having a ton of them.

I'll tell you what was the hardest I've beaten, but it's for a bizarre reason. If you ever come across "Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Rings" for GBA, look for something else. Basically, it can become impossible to win due to bad design and, worse, outright game-breaking bugs. If they even had a quality control team, they were out to lunch or throwing wild parties or something.

That game is not impossible. It's just extreme trial and error.

Metroid Zero Mission 10% Hard Mode - Absolutely brutal.

To be more specific. In metroid zero mission, it's possible to beat the game with only 9 items. Morph Ball, Morph Ball Bombs, 1 Missile Tank, power grip(due to an enemy that will block your progression until you get it), Ice Beam (only because of the metroids), Varia Suit(Which gets forced on you later whether you got it or not.), Plasma Beam, Gravity Suit and Space Jump(all 3 are unknown items which must be obtained to advance).

In hard mode, energy tanks only add 50 energy as opposed to 100. Missile Tanks only give 2 missiles instead of 5. However near the end of the game there's a part with regenerating missile blocks. In hard mode, there's no way you can destroy all 3 of them. So you must either get another missile tank or a super missile tank to destroy all three. Thus 10% Hard Mode(Except the EU version, where those missile blocks are non-regenerating, making hard mode 9% possible).

To pull this off, wall jumping and horizontal / diagonal bomb jumping are absolutely required. It's very, very difficult however successful completion of the game with 15% or under item collection rating nets you a new picture of Samus on Normal and Hard. I just took the extra mile and only got the absolutely essential goods.

something like that yes, except they all used medkits too. So if the tank was mad at you you were in big trouble :P
