Maybe because the spriter wanted them red?

It doesn't have to be Omega Zero.

Also, on the subject of Z3, it's probably more accurate to drop the "Zero" and leave it as "Omega".

To be honest, Omega in his Zero form is probably the most disappointing final boss in the whole franchise.

It was an easy ass boss that made no sense from the beginning.
