"Wha... ?"

Simon the bear scratched at his nose, before rearing back and standing on his hind legs. He gave a sort of confused roar, like he was yawning instead of trying to scare something.

"Did that boy over there just bring in a bandit?" Simon adjusted his glasses. "Why did he bring in a bandit? Were they old friends from school or something?"

Simon shrugs, clambering down on all four limbs and preparing to run straight into the enemies. "Ah, no matter. It's their issue, not ours."

Simon and Finnley
Lightning Elemental
Resists Nature, Weak to Fire

Appearance/Personality: Simon is a simple bear with simple needs. He growls like a bear, he eats meat and fish like a bear, and he walks on four legs like a bear, but if he's attending a nice dinner party he might walk around on his two hind legs. He can't do it for very long and it's much more comfortable to walk on all fours, but Simon is very polite for a bear and so he tries to use good manners around guests. His left arm is a mechanical prosthetic, but Simon doesn't really like to talk about how he lost his bear arm, or how it got replaced with a rather spiffy metal arm. Perched atop his snout is a small pair of spectacles because Simon, despite being a clever bear, does not have the best eyesight in the world even by bear standards.

On his back is his best friend Finnley. He will gladly tell you that his full name is Finneus Tarche the Second, but he doesn't mind being called Finnley as it is shorter and more convenient to say in casual conversation. Finnley claims that he is a shark, even though he only appears to be a backpack in the shape of a shark, complete with a zipper mouth and button eyes. Finnley also claims that he is a scholar, scientist, and a true man of discovery, which can be at least halfway believed considering that he is a backpack capable of fluent speech. Finnley can even understand Simon, translating his grunts and roars for his less animalistic companions.

Oh. And here's a picture, if you're into that.

Playstyle: Base stats are fairly balanced, leaning towards a tanky bruiser. Accuracy is on the higher end for most attacks, thanks to Simon's glasses and Finnley's perfectionist tendencies, though Energy is on the low end, as Finnley's devices aren't very efficient, and bears do not have the greatest metabolism in the world. As for skills, they are split into two general categories. Simon's special attacks focus on locking down single targets, unleashing grizzly attacks that enemies will have a tough time bearing. Finnley's techniques, on the other hand, are more suited for dealing with crowds or helping Simon out in a pinch. Here are some examples for skills to give a general idea.

[Simon the Bear]
Bear Hug - Squeezes the target to deal damage and restrict enemy movement, improving the accuracy of allies who target the same enemy.
Overbearing - Rushes at an enemy, knocking them to the ground. The target's defense is reduced until Simon's next turn.
Grin and Bear It - Simon stands his ground. If attacked that turn, he makes a powerful counter, and survives at 1 HP if he would otherwise be KO'd.

[Finneus Tarche II]
Hammer Head - Dispenses a sturdy helmet for Simon to wear, slightly boosting defense and protecting Simon from disabling statuses (stun, silence, etc).
Tiger Shock - Fires an electrical bolt that bounces between enemies, with a chance of stunning or slowing those struck.
Great White - Fires an enormous beam of pure white energy, striking all enemies. Its wide range gives the attack impressive accuracy.

Despite being two very different creatures, Simon and Finnley are treated as one character, sharing the same turn and using the same stats. It wouldn't make much sense for a sentient talking backpack to be able to hop around on its own, now, would it?

So it's more like Etrian Odyssey or something, where weaknesses are on a per-unit basis? Like, this green slime is weak to Lightning but this blue slime is weak to Metal, despite both slimes using mainly Water attacks.

And speaking of Pokemon, I noticed there wasn't information on basic attacks, only a placeholder formula for special moves. Does this mean that all attacks are technically "special moves", like in Pokemon?

This... actually doesn't look half-bad. Consider me surprised.

It sounds like the elements have a fixed weakness order, like in Pokemon or Mega Man Battle Network. If that is indeed the case, how does the order go?
Also, can a player/enemy unit have no element? (Mettaurs, Cannon battlechips, etc. are "Null" element, which takes neutral damage from everything.)

the fact that he has a pet blader is incredible

why do I love this

hi I'm going through a lot of these threads now so excuse the bump

Gut reaction is "wow, this actually sounds like a good idea" but then the attached picture makes it... not so much. There's a lot of clutter on the minimap, an area where most players really don't want a lot of clutter. Having weapon pickups and inventory items (assists, tanks, etc.) on the map seems sound, but including every health and ammo pickup on the entire map really seems like overkill.

  f i r s t

Maybe "intense" could be used in core during Team LMS or a Duel? Say, there's only one player left on each team for TLMS, or in Duel both players are just one frag away from winning. Those two modes seem perfect for an "intense" situation in my opinion.

Still, this looks cool as figs. Can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on it.

With the change to Centaur Flash, any chance of that being re-enabled as a possible Base Weapon?
