Title: [FINISHED] MAPCHELLA 2012
Post by: Mendez on July 22, 2012, 03:29:07 AM
Folks.
Folks seriously.
What if-
Folks, I mean it.
What if we-

YOU LISTENING?
I'M VERY SERIOUS HERE.
JUST IMAGINE FOR A SECOND

Ok
So let's take each map pack
EACH map pack
We have a total bro host it
And we play a little of each map pack.
Let's appreciate the work of all the mappers who've made numerous maps
Appreciate the amount of hours spent by each creator to craft these sectors, implement their textures, and create their own gimmicks.
Below, in the spoiler below, is the download link for each map pack I've found so far from looking at the projects section and the maps section. I know I might be missing a couple of people's packs, but I'm trying to include as many DEATHMATCH MAP PACKS as possible. After all, this is Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch.

Just dropping by to say that I can't make it unless it's on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. I voted for NONSTOP PARTY BOAT but I might not be able to make it depending on how everyone else votes.

Nonetheless, I can't wait to see this crazy thing in action.

I wish I wasn't lazy/busy and actually fixed up the Kappak before you got this idea.

I don't expect it to be played due to crappy maps but FGDM-V1a (my DM pack) from viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3762 (http://cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3762)

Good idea though, I'll try to show up.

Alright, updated the links to account for any changes the authors have made. I hope you all begin downloading the map packs. I realize that there might be a conflict between Powered Up and Bropack, since both packs have custom weapons and objects. It is for this reason that both packs will alternate between days. Thursday and Saturday will host Bropack, while Friday and Sunday will host Powered Up.
Thanks for supporting this idea guys, means a lot that people care about maps. I am considering a schedule for this 4-day celebration, in which map packs are distributed equally between the 3 days, and then they're all thrown together on Sunday for a massive DM fest. Not sure if you'd like the idea, but it does help give fair attention to small map packs that might get lost among all the larger packs.
Quick edit: Updated Nexus pack link, since apparently that was dead too.

Post by: Gummywormz on July 22, 2012, 08:18:51 PM
Bropack crashed my server twice when I tried to host it It works now. It wouldn't cause a conflict anyway, as there appears to be no SBARINFO or WCOLORS. What will cause a conflict is the DRSG pack, as that uses uki's weapons.

Also EMP v2 and nexus pack both have spaces in their file names. So unless you like mass authentication failure, I'd remove those.

Post by: Mendez on July 22, 2012, 08:58:40 PM
Updated links again to account for EMP and Nexus pack's file name errors. Both have been uploaded to my Dropbox account and now use simple Dropbox links instead. As for DSRG and Powered Up, I can probably organize it so that those map pack are played on their own days. As for which pack will get into Sunday as we have the grand finale, I'm leaning towards Powered Up. That's unless folks object otherwise. Heck, I may make another poll on Thursday for folks to decide.
EDIT: Added Ryuga's map pack, version 4. A 6.9 MB download, you'll have to download this too before entering the servers on Thursday-Sunday.

I tried to make bropack compatible with everything! Don't play it though, it's a buggy unfinished abortion

Instead of over 10 download links, why not just make a .zip file with all of them (or at least the ones nobody probably has (assuming we can get consent from the authors))
Title: Mapchella 2012: All the maps, all the time.
Post by: Mendez on July 24, 2012, 06:57:38 PM
Alright, I've gotten the schedule figured out for this celebration, which will be tentatively titled "Mapchella 2012". Terrible name, but it's better than nothing. Also, I can sell digital merchandise for the event. In any case, the 15 map packs will be split up over the next few days, with 5-6 map packs being given their own day. This is done to give the small map packs a better chance at getting played rather than dropping all the packs onto a server and setting the playlist to random.
MAP SCHEDULE FOR MAPCHELLA 2012:
(click to show/hide)
There will be .zip files containing all the pk3's of the day, meaning people can download only what they need each day.
The servers will last all day, or as long as Kenkoru can keep the servers up.
We may have a small issue with the Nexus Pack however, since the air control and music seem to be pretty messed up. Ken has been hired to fix up errors, and may post a link to the fixed file when he's finished. If the Nexus Pack isn't fixed up by Thursday, Eon's Map Pack will take its place and we'll move Nexus to Friday or Saturday.
Quick Edit: Human Destroyer, being the total bro you should be total friends with, will help with Mapchella by recording demos and some gameplay footage while he's out there on the servers.

Post by: Mendez on July 25, 2012, 08:46:14 PM
Ken and I finally fixed up Nexus Pack for Mapchella and I've updated the links for the absolute last time. As I type, Kenkoru should be uploading the maps for day 1 of this event, which includes a new version of Nexus Pack just for the event. Kenkoru picked out most of the music and music credits are inside of the file.
You folks ready for Mapchella? Server goes up tomorrow. Hope you folks enjoy yourselves.

Well I did a quick run through the maps, HEX from Nexus pack has incorrect air control. And I'd just remove the CTF maps out of it to help the fact that they won't be played and have no music.

Cool, though. I would be up for it if the usual ones weren't present. I mean CSCM, IX-Pack and Powered Up. They get enough attention as it is.

This definitely has my seal of approval.

Also it means that it's the first time Rocpack has been hosted outside a Deathwind's server since that one roboenza server back in april, so that's neat. (http://i45.tinypic.com/b67eaf.png)

Thanks to everyone who participated in day one of Mapchella. Please bare with me for the following download link though. Some people just don't compress music properly. I've written a tutorial which you can find right here (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3332), but it seems that either folks enjoy super long tracks or they really don't bother trying to compress their music and make it easier on others to download their work. Pity. I won't say who the worst culprits are. You'll know it when you download it. I mean, if me and Ken can add in 8 tracks into the Nexus Pack and still keep the file size under 6 MB, it baffles me to see map packs with no more than 10 maps long but with an overall file size of 10-20 MB. Honestly.

Don't worry BlueBrawl, I just wanted to say, there is at least one more guy in CutStuff than you think who knows how to correctly compress music files.
You're looking right at him. Even though I've never made an OGG file, I know quite well how to make an MP3 file.

I hope to show this very soon if I can manage to get my secret project off the ground...   ;)

By the way, sorry if I've now gotten off-topic too much...

I haven't found a link to Fyone's map pack, just like I haven't found a link to OZX. Whereas the other map packs just had dead links that I restored, I haven't really tried to restore the links of FMP or OZX. If you folks want it though, I can try to squeeze FMP into Saturday. All I need is a link in the next 9 hours.

If any of you folks downloaded Rozark's Pack, FGDM, or the map set for Day Three of Mapchella, you may have to re-download them all again. As it turns out, FGG and Rozark have both updated their map packs in anticipation for Saturday, which shows these folks really want people to enjoy their work. The links on the front page have been updated, and hopefully a link to the updated set of maps for Day Three will be posted soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. Enjoy Mapchella.

Well folks, it's been a fun few days, hasn't it? Mapchella closes out tomorrow with a good old fashioned fragfest with every map pack thrown into the mix for the hell of it. I've considered cherry-picking the best maps from each pack, although Ken's considered putting that idea in the form of a community vote. Either way, expect to play on loads of fun maps tomorrow, and make sure you've downloaded each map pack pack or each individual map pack for tomorrow.
I've gotten a link for OZX from two different people, although I don't know if I should include it tomorrow. On one hand, it means I'm showing true equality by allowing all map packs to enter, but on the other hand... OZX's maps are really out there. In any case,
OZXPACKV1A.wad (http://www.mediafire.com/?a3czc5ynv450p2u)
This MAY or MAY NOT be on the final server for tomorrow.
Hope you folks enjoyed playing on these obscure maps with lots of folks. Tomorrow is gearing up to be the biggest day of them all, and I hope you can all join. In about a month, I might make a new event. But we'll see if I can get all the needed maps for that event first...

First off, here's some slightly fitting music for you to listen to:

Thanks to everyone who took part in Mapchella, whether it was enjoying yourself on the servers or just downloading the works of other mappers. It felt great to just mess around in some maps or really play on other maps. Thanks to Ken for hosting all 4 days and for choosing 7/8 of the tracks for Nexus Pack (I chose NEXMUS2), Messatsu for hosting a backup on day 1, Kapus for sending me demos, and HD for getting demos on the last day of playing. Thanks to all the map creators for taking the time to go into doombuilder and create what your imagination provokes you to build. Thanks to all the musicians who make good chiptune music, because Ken found some really good artists that I can check out.
The links will still stay on, and I'm not sure I'll update these links ever again, so make sure to look at the original topics for any sort of updates.
Oh, by the way, I'll be making a similar event in late August. The plan is to have a two-day event in which folks play on CTF maps from JC, Knux, or other mappers who were in the CTF competition. Just as well, folks might get a sneak peek at the improved versions of the CTF maps that got into the core, such as Capeside Clamor and Aeration Sun. I'll have to check with folks about that though, but I can guarantee a slightly newer version of Aeration Sun will be included in Capchella. Best case scenario is that I get all 8 folks who are getting into the core to improve their maps and have the whole community join in on this slight sneak peek into the MM8 expansion. Fingers crossed.
Mods, please lock this topic. It's been fun, folks. It really has. Now, if you excuse me, I have two covers to cash in.
