Bubbles in MM1DW2
« on: May 28, 2017, 09:23:05 PM »
I know this map isn't even in the campaign, but I think this might be also worth a try but, in this map there's a bubble that will lead you to a platform with Hyper Bomb, the issue here is, there aren't bubbles in the 3rd or 4th castle of MM1, well there's that Bubble Boss in the 3rd castle, but this doesn't count, I think...

(click to show/hide)

This could be replaced by Guts' Blocks or maybe even better, you could remove the bubbles, there's that MM4 grapple/hook thing in this stage, theorically, the only use of this hook in this stage is to get the tank close to the ceiling, but if you remove the bubble the grapple could be more useful here, and it would also make Hyper Bomb "harder" to get.

Relying on wire to reach an important location of the map is bad design for modes outside of (T)DM. People are unable to reach up there through conventional means in those modes. Although sorted on a case by case basis, the area where ETank is does not intrude on normal gameplay and is fine, whereas the area with HyperBomb would be a huge flow adjustment if the bubbles were cut out.  GutsBlocks wouldn't work there because the ledge is so high up; no combination of viable patterns for the GutsBlocks would exist. Bubbles are a different flavor of jump pad (and deemed "universal" enough that they can work in almost any map regardless of aesthetic) that works well with the map and improves pacing from the otherwise slow climb of a GutsBlock formation.

Hum... Idk too much about bad designs or good designs, but since you've done a lot of maps you should be right.Since there's no way to remove or replace the bubbles, I think this topic can be closed then.

JohnVyttalRay, by your logic, the "Dr. W" logos in this map should be removed as well, since they weren't in the first game at all.
