MM8BDM Discussion / Server discussions
« on: April 19, 2013, 11:00:38 PM »
I've been repeatedly banned in servers because of players who have been aggressive in their attempts to annoy me. I've done nothing to merit being banned from the duel server, but it keeps happening. The people responsible for this are Bikdark and OJ (and there are folks, like Magnetman497, who can serve as witnesses of the events if needed).

I don't know what has come over you two, but your banning activities need to cease at once. If it does not, I will take up my issues with the Best Ever server moderators. Consider this your only warning on the matter.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

General Gaming Discussion / Webopoly: OJ is a beast
« on: January 13, 2013, 01:04:01 AM »
He took 3/4ths of the board against my initial 4th of the board. I engaged in massive software piracy to avoid landing on Wikipedia or Google, but was eventually put down. Oh well.

Webopoly is like monopoly, but instead of properties, there are websites that can be purchased. It's a fun little game that can be played here.

Rejected / [Suggestion] Junk Shield Counters and Notes
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:12:42 AM »
During some duels, I've encountered players on certain maps where they use junk shield exclusively. This normally wouldn't be a problem in of itself, but a few of the maps that do have junk shield on them lack an appropriate electrical counter. Where there is no counter, junk shield gets abused.

This happens in deathmatch, too. A player will use the shield to limit the damage they take, and escape to get extra life. A player who uses junk shield in this way is harder to kill, especially when there's no counter available.

I suggest that there should be at least one electrical-type weapon on every map where Junk Shield is present to discourage Junk's abuse. I don't suggest changing the weapon, since it's truer to the mm7 weapon, but a counter should be available on every map to prevent Junk from being used nearly exclusively.

I also suggest that, when Junk Shield is used, that the player's range of motion be more limited. After all, that Junk is heavy; it should hinder movement.
NOTE: I'm striking my weighted suggestion, as it would make Junk Shield much more difficult to use; it should be as easy as any other weapon to use.

2nd NOTE: Maps with Junk Shield are:
MM7BUR
MM4DUS
MM5GRA
MM8GRE
MM3HAR
MM2HEA
MM1ICE
MM7JUN
MM2MET
MM7SPR

MM8BDM Discussion / Jousting!
« on: June 10, 2011, 01:01:24 AM »
We have found a purpose for mm5wav, after all.

I am referring to when two players on jet skis grab the top spin and head straight for one another, launching their spins simultaneously. I call such attacks jousting.

Darkwing Duck, myself, CutmanMike, Red, Kenkoru, and others all had a lot of fun doing this. Beware: Darkwing Duck carries his mighty +2 jousting lance, while I carry a +1 jousting lance.

EDIT: this is my 200th post, a personal milestone; here's to the next 200 posts!

Also, players may request that servers be created for the matches on Cutstuff via this thread. Hopefully, others people on here will acknowledge the requests and fulfill them as necessary. I hope the Cutstuff community will wish to assist this tournament to a natural conclusion.

Thank you for your participation! Good luck to all!

MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Great Players
« on: April 24, 2011, 03:39:58 PM »
Since everyone is doing it, here is my top five, as well as an explanation as to why:

1) Rawk Hawk: I do have to justify this, given who is in the 2) spot. He's the last duel tourney winner, and he won the possession tournament. If we're judging this by tournaments, he's clearly No. 1. Lately, though, I've been playing him pretty closely (10:8 loss in Tailsmk4's duel league), so I don't think he's leagues beyond the other players in this list. Still the best player on the servers today.

2) Kombat Kitten (SoniaNature?): It seems like whenever I try to pet the nice kitten, she(?) shows me her retractable claws. End result: I need stitches for all the claw marks I get. I don't know if anyone can dominate a duel like she can, and I'm pretty sure on her best day she could easily defeat Rawk.

3) Orange Juice: Extremely malleable and balanced, he can change his tactics to take advantage of a given situation. There are only a few maps where he isn't so strong, and this balance makes him a difficult opponent.

4) Lonewolf: Even without his "full canceling powers", he's still a dangerous opponent who can choose the right weapon in nearly any given situation. His only problem is he isn't quite as balanced as OJ is, and has trouble with a greater number of maps than OJ does. Given the right map though, he can beat anyone.

5) CutmanMike: It seems like whenever I play him, it's always a one frag difference between the two of us. The end result is I look forward to playing him because all the duels we have are exciting. While not the most skilled opponent, he might be the most balanced, and can win on nearly any map.

Also on the top 5 radar (in no particular order): SaviorSword, Tornado, Celebi, rTist, Kapus, BlueBrawl, FireStorm, Jack Corvus, Muzaru, Korby, -RanRan, and Yellow Devil.

It'd be interesting to see who really is the best by having a league with all of these folks; it'd produce some memorable games to be sure. Too bad I doubt everyone on this list would be interested.

Of course, I typically end all debate by proclaiming myself on the servers to be the greatest mm8bdm player of all time, even if it is just for the lolz.

Mega Man Discussion / Mm8bdm Mega Man Game
« on: April 08, 2011, 03:05:36 AM »
Plot: After CutmanMike created mm8bdm, -RanRan started dominating the server network! He's taken over the other moderators and forced them to do their bidding! CutmanMike is uncertain as to what to do about -RanRan. Rawk, with a strong sense of justice, asks to be turned into a fighting robot. Thus, Rawk Hawk is born.

Eight mm8bdm personalities have taken the eight medals that will open the Moderator's castle, which will allow Rawk Hawk to complete his task!

CutmanMike as Dr. Light-type character
Rawk Hawk as Mega Man-type character
Rose as Roll-type character
Celebi as Proto Man-type character
Lonewolf as Bass-type character
-RanRan as Dr. Wily-type character
Godot as Auto-type character
lol as Beat-type character

Robot Masters:
rTist = You get rTistic Motion
Orange Juice = You get Orange Punch
King Yamato = You get King Crusher
SicksadWorld = You get Depressing Downer
Kapus = You get Net Kapture
Roc's Creations = You get Creative Force
StoneFunk = You get Rock Hard
Saviorsword = You get Savior Aura

Dragoon en Regalia's Fortress (and bosses):
Korby (stage 1 boss)
Ivory (stage 2 boss)
Mr. X (stage 3 boss)
Dragoon en Regalia (stage 4 "boss")
(Lonewolf v.1) (the fight with Dragoon is cut short as Lonewolf dispatches him in the middle of the fight with a single strike! Rawk Hawk challenges Lonewolf, who decides to run off after taking a bit of punishment. Rawk Hawk is led by Lonewolf to -RanRan's Castle!)

-RanRan's Castle (and bosses):
Yellow Devil (Stage 1 boss)
Ashley (Stage 2 boss)
(Lonewolf v.2) (Stage 3 miniboss: Lonewolf challenges Rawk Hawk again, and after taking more punishment, runs off again).
Tsukiyomaru (Stage 3 boss)
Randemz (Stage 4 boss)
Robot Master Teleporters (Stage 5)
(Lonewolf v.3) (Stage 5 boss: Lonewolf tries to use his full canceling powers against Rawk Hawk, but is finally defeated)
-RanRan as the final boss.

Upon defeating -RanRan, the servers are set free for all mm8bdm players to enjoy once more!

Fight, Rawk Hawk, for everlasting peace!

MM8BDM Discussion / New Tournament??
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:22:11 PM »
I'm thinking of hosting a new tournament, but I'm having trouble deciding what kind of tournament would be popular with folks. Please give me some idea as to what you folks would like to play.

After two weeks of this poll, I'll consider hosting the chosen tourney (EDIT: probably starting the first week of May).

So what'll it be?

Also, if you choose Other, please elaborate.

MM8BDM Discussion / Improving V1D
« on: March 27, 2011, 01:51:52 AM »
There's an argument over if V1D is an improvement over V1C. I know that V1D does fix some problems (gyro canceling, nerfing some weapons, changes in weapon behavior, etc), but there are still some "changes" that I feel make the game worse. Here are some examples:

1) Power Stone: The original characteristics of Mega Man 5 weapon are that the three stones circle outward from mega man for a slight area effect. The old V1C weapon fired similar to this on a 2d horizontal plane. Now, it fires in three straight lines. I think the previous V1C weapon is better and should be restored.

2) Gravity Hold: The V1C weapon would take a little damage while knocking the opponent about. The V1D weapon hits a certain area without any knock. The V1D version of this weapon is also quite powerful, while eating lots of ammo. I like the new characteristics of this weapon, but I'm not sure it should do as much damage as it does.

3) E-Tanks, M-Tanks, and Eddie has been removed: I know that the old V1C version would allow for these items to be hoarded, but the correct way to fix this would be to just make them take a long time to re-spawn. If these items took 5 minutes each to re-spawn, it would help prevent camping abuse since there wouldn't always be another tank present to immediately replace the old one. Also, Eddie abuse would be fixed also.

4) Eddie behavior: It can't be judged in V1D since he has been removed (and perhaps being fixed as we speak) but Eddie shouldn't be dropping weapons that break the maps. Time Stopper and Skull Barrier should be prohibited drops.

5) Wind Man's Stage: The Leaf Shield still breaks this map, even more so now that Eddie isn't available to help break the shield with his array of weapons. For every leaf shield should be at least two weapons that can cut or burn its way through the shield.

I will add to this as I explore V1D, but these are my initial impressions that need to be fixed. Anyone else have thoughts to add?

MM8BDM Discussion / Skulltag V0.98D-Alpha...?
« on: March 19, 2011, 11:45:49 PM »
I noticed that the new version of Skulltag is V0.98D. Yet, everyone who plays mm8bdm uses V0.98D-Alpha. Why is that?

MM8BDM Discussion / The best single kill during any game of MM8BDM....
« on: March 12, 2011, 03:17:37 AM »
As an (a)rtist, I enjoy trying to push the envelope a bit during heady deathmatches and team deathmatches. To me, it's during those moments that some amazing kills can take place.

For me, perhaps the best single kill I ever got was during a team deathmatch on mm6mrx. I had gotten the atomic fire and went to the teleporter that leads to the water wave. I didn't enter it, because I noticed a player (whom out of respect I will not name) running towards the bridge to get the magnet missiles. Having previously charged my fire up (and knowing that the magnet spot there is ideal for camping) I fired a blast at the magnet missile spot. I suppose the opposing player was straferunning looking away from my lookout point because if he had seen the blast, he would have avoided the magnets for a moment so the fire would have passed, but he didn't see the blast approaching. After he ran across the bridge, he got the magnets. At the same time, the atomic fire blast hit the magnet spot, roasting the player.

Lots of luck in that shot, but it was a brilliant piece of timing and foresight.

So guys, what is your single best kill during any game of mm8bdm?

MM8BDM Discussion / Player Power Rankings
« on: February 27, 2011, 06:09:40 AM »
I was thinking of hosting another tournament sometime later on in the year, in an attempt to provide some amusement for the players on this forum. What kind of tournament, we shall see. Either a duel tourney or a 2-man team tournament, but we shall see.

But my question, for the purposes of seeding (if it's a KO tournament) is who are the top 10 players here? You can use any rationale you want in determining the list, but I'm curious who we all think is the best.

Since I haven't seen everyone on here play, I'm not sure if it's prudent for me to give an opinion, but I'd appreciate it if I could have something to go on for when OJ is done with his new Brossession tournament.

Also, I might use results from the current duel tournament for determining overall player strength.

So, who all do you think the top 10 are?
