The Christmas Season, a time for togetherness, friendship, and spending time with your family. Also. to beat up other friends and families? This tournament, organized as a formal sacrifice to usher in Zandronum 3.0 for early in the new year, and thus interrupt the tournament, will see you teaming up with one other player and will include CBM. However, you'll be leaving your comfort zone as your opponents will be picking one of your classes!

Win one map and your team will earn the Cutstuff Enthusiast Medal!

Matches will proceed as thus:
When each team signs up, they will BLOCK and BAN 5 classes each for the entire tournament. These are freely changeable until their first match happens.

Final Arbitration: Block - Ban - Map - Nemesis - Pick

Teams are not obligated to play as classes they block. Ergo, they should BLOCK classes they do not wish to play.
Neither team may plan any class banned by either team. Ergo, teams should BAN classes they do not wish to play against.

When a match begins, teams will block another 5 then ban another 5 classes, alternating each pick. This happens before each MATCH.

Once all blocks and bans are in place, both teams must deliberate among themselves as to their NEMESIS PICK. This is a class that the opposing team must play as, but the team playing the class selects which player will use it. Both teams' Nemesis Picks will be stated at the same time and may not be changed once announced. Recall no banned classes or classes blocked by the opponent are valid Nemesis Picks. Nemesis and Self Picks are done every MAP.

In case it wasn't obvious, you can't ban a class that was already selected in the Nemesis Pick.

Once the Nemesis Picks are complete, each team will select a class for their other player to use in the map. They do not need to announce what this class is before the match begins or who is using which class. Remember that no banned class is valid for this pick- you may use a class your team blocked if you so wish.

Each match is comprised of a best-of-3 maps. Maps are selected as most tournaments before: one team selects a map, the other team selects the second map, and both teams must agree on the third map if applicable.

Matches will take place in TLMS with 6 respawns per player that are NOT shared. If one player loses their respawns, their teammate is on their own!

Double Elimination Bracket.

MM7CLO MM8CLO MM5WAV MM5GYR, CTF and custom maps legal on mutual agreement only.
MM7STR is BANNED.

Unlike prior tournaments, players are allowed to use the same class if desired. Please note this implies you want another dose of what the opposing team is serving you, of course!

Footnote: Remember that since this is TLMS, copyweps will be given a selection of weapons. As a discount deal, you can spend TWO of your bans or blocks, either permenant or per-match, on the full Copywep package:

Rules: No Weaknesses - Buckshot On - Fraglimit 7 - Any self-destructs are considered added to the opponent's frags instead of costing your own - Best 2/3 [player 1 picks map, player 2 picks map, mutual agreed map - Any custom or CTF maps or MM5WAV and MM5GYR must be mutually agreed upon] - Double Elimination
A config file will be provided as soon as available...

Tired as all hell of classes like Joe, Slashman, Woodman, or Original Duo? Don't want to wait around for long drafts or try and organize a 6 player match? Don't trust global banlists to be fair? In this tourney, we give you the power and fully expect you to apply it very liberally! In your signup, please list 45 classes to ban throughout your entire tournament career. When two players go up against one another, any class on either player's banlist is off the table. You must pick a legal class (no need to announce it- just show up with it in-game) and use it for the entirety of that game (you can switch in between games).

Also I shouldn't need to specify this but this is YD classes

MM8BDM Discussion / MM8BDM Full Game Speedrun in 8:05:25.75 [WR]

Note that the notion of No Shark has carried and as such he doesn't appear in this speedrun. The only other decision to be made now is that if an MMK fight is failed, should you be allowed to immediately exit to lab, retry, and finish the chapter from the middle? This allows you to use the weapon in the remainder of the chapter.

Tutorial Collection / A somewhat centralized MM8BDM Install Guide
« on: December 06, 2015, 03:16:03 AM »
Posting this here because previous guides have been buried or point to now outdated servers or addons.

This is a guide for Windows. If you have a Mac and don't have any better way to run Windows programs, look here... but no promises, sorry.
STEP 1: Download the game.
Go to <!-- m -->http://cutstuff.net/mm8bdm/<!-- m --> and click the prominent download button. Easy as that!
STEP 2: Install the game.
Extract the downloaded ZIP file wherever you want it. If you don't know a good place, just extract it to a folder on your Desktop.
STEP 3: Install Doomseeker, a server browser.
Click this link to download Doomseeker: <!-- m -->http://doomseeker.drdteam.org/files/doo ... indows.zip<!-- m -->
Install it much the same as you did MM8BDM; I recommend another directory inside of your MM8BDM folder.
STEP 4: Configure Doomseeker.
Run Doomseeker.exe to open Doomseeker. Ensure the following settings are set:
• In the "Query" dropdown tab, ensure the only option enabled is "Zandronum".
• In the "Options" dropdown tab, open "Configure".
- Under Engines, select Zandronum. Click the three dots next to the "Path to Executable" field and navigate to the directory you extracted MM8BDM to. Select "Zandronum.exe"
*Note: If you finish these steps and selecting a server in Doomseeker causes the single player launcher to appear, you selected MM8BDM.exe instead of Zandronum.exe- Ensure you have the latter in this field.
- In the same Zandronum tab, ENSURE your "Masterserver address" is set to master.zandronum.com:15300 and "Testing Releases" is UNCHECKED.
- In the configure window, locate "File Paths". Select the folder that contains MM8BDM.exe and Zandronum.exe (along with a number of other files).
- Under WadSeeker, select General. For "Directory WadSeeker will put WADs into", select the same directory that you selected for File Paths.
- Under WadSeeker, select Sites. If the website <!-- m -->https://static.painkiller.allfearthesentinel.net/wads<!-- m --> is not listed, add it. This site holds the vast majority of mods you will need to use to connect to servers.
If you're not interested in other games (Doom 2, Hexen, CHEX 3D etc.) click the funnel icon near the top of the window. In the WADs field, type the following: megagame
STEP 5: You're done!
Double click on a server to connect to it. Chances are you'll have to download some extra files before you can connect- allow Wadseeker to download them (the thing we configured earlier) and it'll grab all the mods for you automatically (handy!). If it doesn't find a mod file, chances are it's not publically available (in beta, made for certain people, etc etc.). If you're having issues, sign up here on the forums and post in the Help&Editing section.

STEP 6: Future Proofing
If you open up Doomseeker and see that your "MM8BDM-v##.pk3" (i.e. MM8BDM-v4a.pk3 or MM8BDM-v5d.pk3) is not the most up-to-date version of the game, redownload from the original mm8bdm download site. If you copy over your Zandronum-[username].ini file and all your mod files, all your settings will be intact for your fresh install!

Of more importance is the fact that Zandronum updates at a different schedule than MM8BDM. If you try connecting to a server and it says your version of Zandronum is out of date, go to Zandronum.com and download the newest release package. Just get the zip file- you can just extract that into your MM8BDM folder, overwriting the old files. Of course, making a backup never hurts...

FAQ:
No servers are popping up, and there's a message saying I'm banned from the Zandronum Master Server! Why?
Sometimes, the Zandronum Staff needs to ban a range of IPs to keep a known cheater or troll out of the servers. Sometimes, players get caught up in these ranges and are banned before they can even play. If that happens to you, follow these instructions and you'll be unbanned.

Disclaimer: This tournament is powered by clean, renewable energy, obtained by stealing thunder from King Dumb.

With the enormous popularity of the CBM project as of its latest expansion release, now's the best time to throw the new and changed classes into the fray and see what comes out!

Important Info about each setup:
Weaknesses will be disabled.
Ideally the tournament will be Double Elimination but may be Round Robin if too few teams sign up. Each match will be Best of 3.
TLMS will be played with 8 shared lives (plus starting lives) and classes will be determined via Draft Pick* method (to be done every map)
TDM will be blind pick (anything not hard-banned goes) but may NOT change classes mid-map. Teams may not use the same class more than once per map.
TDM will be first to 20 frags for 2v2, 30 frags for 3v3
Certain classes may be banned outright, put up to a vote by community. (lists are not final and may include more, other suspects can be added by popular opinion)
---Universal suspects include Flashman and Woodman. Copyweps will be banned except for Rockman (who will himself be up to vote).
---TLMS Suspect List Voting: http://strawpoll.me/4964253 AND http://strawpoll.me/5030838 AND This post
---TDM-only suspects include Sniper Joe.

General Gaming Discussion / Pokemon Battle Factory: Gaiden
« on: July 10, 2015, 09:42:03 PM »
This is a project I've been working solo on mostly unannounced- It's akin to Battle Factory in prior Pokemon games, but with a few other elements ala battle pike or pyramid. The player moves through a series of rooms, picking one of three randomly generated Pokemon, items, or moves per room (If you've played Hearthstone's arena mode, it'll be familiar). A large focus has been made on giving players the choices they want, such as playing with more or less Pokemon in the team, with or without certain types of items, and perhaps in the future special challenge modes. The good news? The majority of the technical work is already done- all that's left is making Pokemon movesets and trainers, the latter point I need some help on. However, to make this simple to implement, there are going to be some guidelines:

Need-to-know information:

General Gaming Discussion / Pokemon Grassroots - Quest to show up KD
« on: March 13, 2015, 02:15:46 AM »
Current gameplan: Don't pull a DonutYoshi

Pokemon Grassroots is will be a Pokeymans game made in RPGMakerXP. Groundbreaking.

The story opens with the player, the champion of a different region, visiting an underdeveloped region with no league presence. Your job is to explore the area as a new trainer would and recruit the sparse local trainers as gym leaders. However, there are some people not so accepting of a central government in the region...

Current progress includes a map of the region (to be posted on Monday once I have access to a computer with the file) and a storyboard including the events of most cities throughout the game.

Anything Goes / How to Classes
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:20:05 AM »
This was a project that started probably six months ago that was just rekindled after looking for a picture of Mike Tyson with tootsie rolls for a hand, and for that reason I have Fyone and Bikdark to curse thank. As of right now it contains over 40 depictions of the actual 100% true essence of classes (based on Jaxof YD's mod). Considering how many are left to go and the fact I barely play anymore, I'm demanding you people finish it open sourcing the project- repeats are, of course, welcome. General Gaming Discussion / Terraria Succession
« on: June 11, 2014, 01:53:07 AM »
Dwarf Fortress Succession had plenty of hype, but nobody knew how to play it! Thus, we're starting a game of Terraria Succession.

The rules in short:
1. When it's your turn, you will receive a map and a character- extract these to your save locations to play as them.
2. No bringing the succession character to other maps or other characters to the succession map.
3. No malicious destruction (eg punching out a wall for expansion/remodeling/"reimagining" is fine- it's succession, after all, they have a saved copy if they're attached to their creation)
4. No mods, hacks, or inveditors, obviously
5. Pass the game on after Three hours of in-game time (with a grace period of ten minutes or so to wrap up battles, prepare for the next player, etc), or five (real) days of your turn beginning.
6. Screenshot/Video logs are encouraged!
7. General text logs of what you accomplished/devastated required when ending your turn

Misc. Info:
- Softcore character
- Terraria v1.2.4.1 or most recent version in case of update
- Large world

With that said, I'll volunteer to take the first turn (unless somebody else really likes the early game):

« on: December 25, 2013, 05:33:02 AM »
You want it, we've got it! It's been the most played mode for over a year, so we're bringing it to the tournament scene!

Saxton Hale!

This tournament will require 16 players. The players will be split into four groups of four players. One player from each match will advance to the final, which will be comprised of the four winners of the other matches. Matches will consist of three rounds. The Hale mod used will be the most recent stable version. Report the following data from each match:
- Player selected as Hale, and which Hale they were
- Who died per match
- Did Hale die, Did hale win (in either case, state who was the last survivor if applicable)
- Total frag count at the end of the match (all three rounds)

General Gaming Discussion / Cutstuff Showdown League
« on: December 10, 2013, 12:29:21 AM »
Well, people wanted it, so...

Challenger Paste: Under Construction
League Channel: Under Consideration

What is a Showdown League?
Leagues on Showdown are player run, unofficial groups that pose a challenge akin to those in the main series games. Most (including ours) are Monotype, mirroring the games further. And hey, if you win, you might just find yourself as champion of that league.

Where do we fall into this?
People wanted to try it out, so here we are. We'll need a plethora of leaders and E4 members, so even if you're not sure how well you'll do, give it a shot! Once we get established, I'll look into getting an official channel on the Frost server. If we do end up getting one, Leaders and E4 will be expected to at least idle there and check for challengers occasionally.

The Deviation has been changed as sub 100 deviation requires upwards of ~20-25 matches, which is currently not viable on the limited Gen 5 OU Monotype ladder. These rankings will be accepted if they are on your alt account. If you feel you are more fit for the position, please make it known.]:

General Gaming Discussion / Pokemon Showdown Tournament
« on: November 23, 2013, 05:50:48 AM »
The tournament is ready to begin!
Click here to view the bracket.
The format for the tournament will be Pokebank OU.
Post results here and, if possible, replay links. I realize that Showdown's replay service is rather shifty at the moment.

Remember that this is Double Elimination- you can lose once and keep going, but two losses and it's over!

---------------
With the recent hype of Pokemon X and Y starting to slow down, now seems like a good time as ever to bring back the Cutstuff Pokemon Tournaments. There's four major tiers for now (because there's no UU/RU/etc for Gen 6 yet), but if you have another favorite, feel free to post it. The tournament will be held in the tier that wins the poll, which closes in 10 days (or earlier if we start the tournament).

Only major rule is that your team may not change any species- moves, EVs, formes, items, etc are all fair game.
Additionally, please click "save replay" and save the link once you finish a match. It'll serve as proof in case there's ever a conflict.

The tournament will be held on Pokemon Showdown (Direct link to the client). To sign up, just post your PS! name and your times available. If we can get an even 8 players, we'll do a Double Elimination Bracket (through Challonge if possible).

MM8BDM Discussion / State of the Servers
« on: October 14, 2013, 04:28:04 AM »
I was going to post this in Musashi's Saxton Hale thread, but that ended up being locked in its own gold-plating, so oh well. Anyways, I'd like to draw your attention to one detail here. Please look over the people in Musashi's thread. In fact, look over the vast majority of people who you consider core to Cutstuff, however you may define it. Now, over the next couple of days, please see who frequents the Saxton Hale server. Personally, I see very little overlap between the two groups. What does this mean, you ask? It means that posts on Cutstuff are not going to be a forum of rectification, instead, it's going to be one group of people looking down on another group of people. Not because they have any disdain or ill will for them, mind you, but because they're doing something they don't like. Anyways, on to my second point. Let's say, hypothetically, that you agree that Cutstuff long-timers or otherwise active members have little overlap with Saxton Hale servers.

Now, let's say you Magically filtered out all of those Saxton Hale servers, and Saxton Hale and its players were gone in the blink of an eye. As an aside, my observations have led me to beleive that this is what most Zandronum players do to MM8BDM as a whole (as if we came full circle), but I digress.

Now that your magic filter is on, what do you see on your server browser? Nobody?

Strange. The "core members of Cutstuff" don't seem to be playing MM8BDM, even if Saxton Hale isn't around.

It's almost as if Saxton Hale wasn't a cause for decay in MM8BDM play, but a result of MM8BDM decay.

Huh. Maybe we could just ignore that result and go back to what we were doing before Saxton "took over."

Just food for thought.

General Gaming Discussion / Pokemon Showdown!
« on: October 10, 2013, 04:46:46 AM »
Because X and Y isn't relevant and Pokemon Online is dead.

Pokemon Showdown is a site where you can instantly build Pokemon teams and find battles with friends or random people. It runs off of Smogon's tiers, so if you don't want to see rain teams or fight thousands of Keldeos or just really want to use Liepard, there's a tier for that.

You can download the client (if you're lame) or play through the website (way better) and there's a number of servers available for play. The main server has a highly active ladder if you feel like testing yourself against the general public, and there's a tournaments channel for player-hosted tournaments that run almost constantly.

And to start the #shotsfired, PS! is pretty much better than PO. PS! has animations, is faster, has a superior teambuilder, and is generally more user friendly.

Anyways, if you've got logs, a favorite set, want to find other players that play your favorite tier, or pretty much anything else, go ahead and post it here.

Personally, I'm quite fond of this OU-Monotype set that brought me up to 2.3k+ rating (provisional, but whatever):
