I've been having tons, I repeat, TONS of crashes/issues since I've changed my PC from Vista to XP, I always thought having XP would STOP crashes not ADD  more of 'em.  :?

Here's some of those:

-My PC randomly shuts down when I'm playing some games. (Onimusha 3, Serious Sam - The Second Encounter, etc.)

-My speakers went boom, now voices/sounds are chipmunked, forcing me to use headphones to listen to something properly.

-Games that doesn't require a good PC at all lag for me, while I could run them just fine, at 60 FPS when I had a Vista.

-And, of course, the Skulltag 97E/98A crashes.

I might just sell this piece of shit, along with some other stuff and buy another PC (not an laptop, hopefully).

All of my crashes have been hardware related.. Lol just kidding.

Ermm... Why the hell would you try after you get it to work? Of course it's gunna be the last thing you try :P

Sorry what I meant was like "Okay if this doesn't work I'm giving up" last straw kinda thing because it's so unlikely to work, and boom it works.

I bought a new laptop and it had windows 7 on it. "Fuck that shit" I thought and formatted without hesitation. Turns out that these new HP laptops are designed to NOT have XP on them and will BSOD anyone who dares try to install any other OS than windows 7 on. Seems there's little you can do but succumb to the big 7.

Thankfully Windows 7 isn't THAT bad. Just a bit of a resource hog.

Oh hell yeah.
When I had it installed, my cpu usage never went to 0 for more that 1/2 second. And the free RAM was much lower.
I would like to say that XP is the best windows made.
But I still like using ubuntu

While playing Kingdom of Loathing, me and my clan were doing a raid.  For those who have played, it was in Hobopolis against Uberhodgman trying to acquire the Imaginary Hamster (it's... a weird game), and it was maybe three minutes until rollover (nightly maintenance where they boot everyone from the game for a half hour).  I was the only one high enough level to fight Uberhodgman.  About 90 seconds from rollover now and right before the killing blow, my fucking computer AUTOMATICALLY REBOOTED ITSELF.  Like someone had walked by and pressed the reset button.

When I came back, after clicking away the "Your computer has recovered from a serious error" message, rollover had just begun.  That crash cost my clan the whole raid.  That was the only time in my life I turned violent with hardware: I smacked my monitor so hard it flipped through the air and smashed against the wall. Surprisingly, the tough little flat panel survived without a dent; it serves me well to this day.

By the way I found what caused the crash (it happened two more times): Avast!.... lousy anti-viruses causing more grief than any worm or trojan...

Then I would have smacked my head across the room instead of my monitor! :)

I just failed to get Skulltag to run in Ubuntu so I'm having the... shall we say, opposite feeling of that right about now. Heh.
Well, okay I got it to run after futzing around with libraries for an hour, but after that it kept crashing when I tried to change sound and display settings (full screen + dual-monitors = frantically stabbing the Reset button), but same thing really.  Sigh, I'll just resort to booting into windows when I need my Doom fix like I've always done.

Run the Windows build under wine, but it won't work in fullscreen.
Or, try installing timidity++

Also, try this...

When my new GPU (XFX HD 5870 XXX - yes, I recently got a new PC. I couldn't play on my Pentium anymore) arrived, it didn't work. It would crash. I was like "OMGWTFBBQ why doesn't this gay fucking bullshit fucking work *sniff*, MADOMGBSZOMG jesus christ why isn't this happening to some lil' rich asshole who can't appreciate shit. Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyy GOD? WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY FUCKING ME? There are 7 billion people on this shitty planet, why are you so down on me? SHIT! I was saving money for 3 years and when I finally got the damn thing, it wouldn't work!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! ..." and so on (I apologize for swearing, but that's how it really happened).

I wouldn't have been pissed off so much if haven't previously had to wait 2 weeks for the computer. It was later OK, but I had to wait a month for those assholes to replace the *beep*ing thing (insert a mixture of laughing and crying here).
