Closed / Single Player Mode Save and Boss bugs
« on: August 26, 2016, 10:43:14 AM »
It has been WAY too long since I've been on here. Years, actually.

Anyway

While playing through Single Player, the game ended up not responding a couple of times and forced me to close out of it. When I re-launched it, all progress from the game was lost and I was forced to start over.

Also, a minor bug, but a bug nonetheless, when playing through the game I fought all three of the Mega Man Killers and lost to each of them. When I was supposed to go and fight the boss, it made me fight the Mega Man Killers again and go back into the loop. Thankfully, all I had to do was go back into Single Player from the main menu and I was able to fight the bosses as intended

Why is Mega Man a bad guy?

... most of the villains, Mega Man, Samus Aran, etc. ...

Mega Man isn't a villain. He's just going to be tough to find sprites for, apparently.

Thank you for clearing that up Cold. But yeah, finding sprites for Mega Man's gonna be tough. I think that I can get his easily from another site full of Mega Man sprites and maybe it's sister site for the Simon Belmont Sprites, but everything else'll be tough.

I'm under the summoner name "Joe the Brutal" if anyone wants to friend me. Yes I use the american servers. I use Annie as my main.

P.S. If this counts as Bumping the topic I don't mean too. At least the last post was made on Saturday.

Ok, I see what you're trying to do. And if you want to make a game using a lot of different game characters. DON'T TAKE SPRITES FROM THEIR GAMES! Let's say I need a Mario sprite. So I take Mario from Mario and Luigi. And I also need a Link one. The Link sprite will not match the style of the Mario one. And the game will look kinda ugly. So you need to stick to one style, which means you're going to have to make a crap ton of sprites.

Oh I know that. I'm planning on making it 16-bit since I know one site that does have a good ammount of 16-bit sprites I need (since it does some Final Fantasy spriting, which I'll need those.) It has a Pikachu and Link Sprite set as well. But there's gonna be some I'll have trouble with, such as most of the villains, Mega Man, Samus Aran, etc. The villains will especially be tough since I'll need a much larger sprite. Like for Ridley. I'll need a sprite for him in there as a boss. Hence why I need Spriters.

Gotta start somewhere! At the very least, maybe there's an already existing picture or piece of art that kind of conveys a similar idea for what you wanna do (like if I wanted to make a game where you play as dinosaurs, I'd post a shot from Jurassic Park).

Well...that's where the challenge comes in. Basically, it's a bunch of characters from a bunch of different franchises I like coming together to try and save the world through typical RPG fashion

I'm curious, how do you plan to make a game when you lack sprites, and a program that you can actually make the game with.
Ideas are great and all, but you should at least get your program so it would be easier to give advice and such.

Well PressStart sent me a program. For sprites, there are some I can get from other sites considering what it is I'm doing the RPG based off of, but for everything else, I'd need a spriter for.

http://www.byond.com/

Byond is one free alternative for making an RPG game. Byond games are kind of slow and clunky, but it'll let you do online play real easy like if you wanted to.

edit: Also, can you draw or sprite? If you post something visual, I'm sure more people would come to your aid.

Thanks for the link. And no, I have no clue how to do drawings or sprites. I can attempt, but that'll probably just end in horriffic failure

I don't care what you're doing, even a silly little whatever is going to take SOME time unless you're fine with it looking like garbage.

If you're not willing to invest some time in the project then it's not going to turn out nicely, end of story.

And you just saying what I already know isn't helping

Making an RPG isn't just some thing you can do on a weekend. No, it requires a lot of time, energy, and dedication for your poorly cobbled-together shamble of dungeons to even see the light of day as a mere BETA, let alone a full release. Heaven help you if you don't stick with an RPG Maker engine from Enterbrain, since that also means you'll be doing a lot of the background "gruntwork" like sprite collision, damage calculation, stat databases, and battle systems from scratch.

If you thought this was going to be easy I suggest you stop while you still can, but if you're really THAT determined then I'm all for it, more power to you. Trust me, I should know, what with MY game still not even HALF finished after three years...

It wasn't gonna be an actual game release. Just some fan release for fun.

That's the first problem I have. I don't know which program to use. Not to mention, I want one that's gonna allow the imput of other sprites since some of the characters will not be humanoid.

Mega Man Discussion / Re: Where do you start first in each game?
« on: January 01, 2012, 04:56:34 PM »
Mega Man 1: Bomb so I can get the Super Arm to get the Magnet Beam in Elec Man's stage without needing to backtrack

Mega Man 2: Metal so I can get the Flash Stopper after I get the Metal Blades and go after Quick Man ASAP

Mega Man 3: Top Man (easiest)

Mega Man 4: Toad Man (easiest again)

Mega Man 5: Gravity Man because his stage is fun

Mega Man 6: Flame Man so I can get the Rush Power Adaptor first, then pick up the Jet Adaptor later so I don't have to backtrack to get the BEAT parts. (Sorry Llama Hombre)

Mega Man 7: Junk Man because he's the easiest of the four without their weaknesses.

Mega Man 8: Tengu Man since he's the easiest without his weakness.

Mega Man 9: Splash Woman (easiest)

Mega Man 10: Sheep Man (easiest)

Mega Man Discussion / Re: ALL CLASSES + BONUS - Mega Fortress 2
« on: January 01, 2012, 04:48:14 PM »
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a few others.

Scout = Quick Man for obvious reasons.

Soldier = Proto Man since his charge blast is pretty powerfuk

Pyro = Fire Man because Fire Man likes burning things

Demo = Napalm Man because Napalm Man like blowing things the hell up (Cool Guys don't look at Explosions   )

Heavy = Mega Man since Mega's a tough robot having had to destroy a lot of robots and sustain a lot of damage

Engineer = Bright Man since Bright Man's intelligent

Medic = Toad Man because Toad Man's rain was originally meant to help plant life

Sniper = Bass since Bass is the only one of the three playable robot masters that can actually aim his buster.

Spy = Shadow Man because he's a ninja that (according to the Classes Mod) can turn invisible
