MM8BDM Discussion / Re: Did you know??? MM8BDM
« on: December 19, 2020, 06:35:48 AM »
The mail box outside Dr. Light's lab actually has two unused actor states in the curretly released version. These states are interally named "Cossack" and "CossackSnowy".

I know this is an old post, but I only just noticed this one. For those of you who love random game dev trivia, I can actually shed some light on that. The concept of Dr. Cossack and CO being campaign buddies was in the works as early as v4. Originally if you walked to the road, right before you hit the invisible wall (between the fences at Dr. Light's lab) Auto would show up to give you a lift. You then would go to Cossack's Citadel where... yeah, that's kind of why it never panned out. There wasn't a practical purpose for Cossack's Citadel so it never materialized.

Anyways, that mailbox was meant for Dr. Cossack's Citadel and it's the only evidence of that whole idea still existing in the core today. Although I might still have the map prototype floating around somewhere, and maybe even the version of Dr. Light's labs that has the transition.

Been a long time since I posted something, but I suppose it's a fitting time now.

To a lot of people, V6 is this super cool closure to a game that has been in development for the last 10 years. For me, it's been something else entirely. Even though the final product definitely had some great ideas from a lot of different people, it puts a smile on my face knowing that the general script I came up with for MM8BDM's Evil Energy arc years and years ago has come to a closure. The dev team has done wonders expanding on the script and bringing it to the product you experienced in V6. While my own contributions weren't nearly as major as my time with the game in V3/V4, I'm still honoured to be apart of the dev team and still be able to do the odd map or two for this game.

But as far as that script went, I didn't write anything for past MMV (since you know, MM11 wasn't even a thing back then.) MM11 and anything beyond is being written by a new generation.

There is your random trivia from a semi-retired MM8BDM developer.

Honestly the MM1 Health/Energy were pretty ugly anyways.

I thought Beat Call and Beat Support would have been the most direct comparison, but those examples work too.

I think that was something Ivory was planning but never happened? I forgot about that to be honest.

Actually, it's more of a joke that got left in the code as I recall. Proto Man is DLN000 and in the coding, he occupies Case 0. Proto is too cool to hang out in a family oriented lab after all.

Did you know that the only reason Light Labs was overhauled into its current state was because I just finished my semester in college, had a week until I moved back home and nothing better to do with v3 other than nitpicking stuff?

In other words, it happened because I got bored and had way too much time on my hands.

Hey there all you Mega Man fans!

Just popping by to say that I absolutely loved what I have experienced. The story mode escalation that has been underway since v3 hasn't ceased to amaze me, even if it does make V1 bosses and story pretty bland now in comparison. We have gone from fighting giant peace keeping robots of mass destruction to an evil robot in space to having a three on one with the Genesis Unit to a shmup battle or road chase? Along with the ever scaling difficulty  :ugeek:  :ugeek:  :ugeek:

The new maps are top notch and I am delighted to see that MM7FRE and MM9MAG are relatively the way I left them. Some of the plot elements I came up with did see use, in ways I wouldn't even have planned to use them. I just plain love it.

I can just feel how much fun the dev team had making this content through playing it alone and I can't wait to see just how much things are going to escalate again in v6.

Props to everyone on the dev team for their hard work in bringing this expansion to life, and to the community who never stopped believing in them or criticizing them, or whatever else motivates people to get stuff done for this game.

And personally from me to them, props to the dev team for picking up on all the half-done stuff I left behind when I abruptly upped and left. I feel like I failed them for not being able to see my commitments through, but I also feel a lot better now that I had time to get away and clear my head for a few months. Seriously, you guys are amazing and Light's Lab is a lot better than what I had planned for it.

Anything Goes / Re: General Offtopic Discussion

It was my birthday the day after Kappy's (Mar 6th) and no one posted anything about it on the forums. It wasn't just this year either, of the 6 1/2 years I have been on these forums, I probably only got birthday wishes in this thread like once or twice.

I'm also Ivory, ex-Lead Dev and one of the few members of the old old guard of Cutstuff, predating MM8BDM. So it's not like I'm a nobody no one knows about. Yet, despite all of this, I never made a scene about no one bothering to wish me a happy birthday in a thread. End of the day, does it really matter? Not really. If the people who truly matter to you remember your birthday, that's way more important.

A very happy birthday to my super mapping bro too. Have a picture of a really bad Tails motivator.

Funfact: Wave Burner's underwater obit is a nod to the fact that Burner Man's beta name was Blast Man. Which is why we used blast.

The MM3NEE textures aren't unused, they are used in MMCTF10 - All Out Assault.

In any case, I don't think having the background randomly changing is a good thing. For example, MM4SKU is very purple, which makes the red sky stand out a lot more than the blue one. If you need an example as to why, just check out IX-Pack map number whatever the skullman one was.

A 28th anniversary isn't really that big of a milestone anyways. Now, a 30th anniversary on the other hand...
