Through the trials and challanges of MM8BDM, many have lost their cool in matches.
But now, there is help (If you have absolutely no self-respect).

Anything Goes / Protoman's Message
« on: July 07, 2011, 08:10:11 PM »
Hey all, it's Sean Nelson!

Protoman asked me to post a topic stating that he is having a great deal of internet issues right now, and that his future with MM8BDM after an update is threatened as a result. Especially since his parents won't help repair it.

He wanted you all to know that the Cutstuff / Unfaded Community have always acted as friends to him, and that he is very impressed and appreciative of that.

So, I'm hoping the computer thing blows over, but you never know with these things.

Anywho, if you are so inclined, give a shout-out here.

Edit: Guess the problem has been fixed.
A bit premature, yes.

MM8BDM Discussion / Naming Names
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:09:02 AM »
Hey, it's everyone's favorite in real life name player, Sean Nelson here!
And I'm taking this opportunity to ask a question that has been on my mind since I began MM8BDM.
My question bears upon the psychological trends of the internet itself.

I feel comfortable saying that I am everyone's favorite IRL named player because, to the best of my knowledge, there is no other person playing MM8BDM or registered on the forums who uses their real name (If so, I've never met them and that's saying a lot). With over 1,000 members here, and undoubtedly even more who have played MM8BDM, it is odd that all of the others conceal their names.

I encourage all players who are willing to do so to adopt their real names as their MM8BDM names from now on. It has never stirred me wrong.

For those who prefer an alias, I'm eager to know why.
I'm new to online gaming, and this is my first and only forum, so I have little experience with this issue.

The WWW board / KQRS Morning Show
« on: June 28, 2011, 05:39:29 AM »
I've been following this show on MP3 for over two years now. It is great for someone who uses an iPod all the time and hates the news.

The KQ Morning Show is based in Minnesota, and is the highest rated Morning Show in America, so popular that Howard Stern had to leave Minnesota because he didn't make enough. It has a Worldwide audience thanks to podcasts and MP3 downloads.

Basically, the cast reads (usually already funny) local, national, and international news stories and they make banter about them. Celebrity and sports news are included. In the last half, they usually conduct an interview with a celebrity or stand-up comedian. And about once a week, they hold a game show.

Anywho, just thought I'd throw up the link.

Mega Man Discussion / Favorite Mega Man Ending
« on: June 16, 2011, 01:41:15 AM »
Inspired by the newest expansion, I just finished playing Mega Man 7 again.
Personally, I always thought that Mega Man 7 had the best ending in the series.
This got me to wondering which ones others prefer.

So, what's you favorite Mega Man ending and why?
You can include X, BN, Zero, and Star Force if you want.

I liked Mega Man 7's ending the best because it was very reminiscent of The Empire Strikes Back.
Mega Man 6 ended on a high note, Wily had been captured and sent to jail.
In MM7, Wily escapes and Mega Man is forced to take care of a whole new set of robot masters with his new ally, Bass.
However, Bass viciously betrays Mega Man by not only decimating Dr. Light's Laboratory, but stealing the enhancement parts that would have made Mega Man a total badass.
After making it through the fortress, and fighting two difficult battles with Bass, Mega Man defeats a quite difficult (in my opinion) Wily Capsule.
Mega Man is so frustrated that he is still forced to clean up Wily's messes that he is prepared to kill Dr. Wily, until Bass rescues him while mocking Mega Man and ensuring him that he would return.
It cuts to Mega Man making the long walk home from Wily's burning fortress.
The whole walk, he either looks sad or frowns.
When he gets back, a picture is taken with the others, and no one looks all too happy.
It seems Mega Man has finally realized the gravity of his situation.
He'll be fighting until the day he dies, and the everlasting peace he was working towards will most likely never be achieved.
He knows that despite how hard he had worked, he's all the way back to square one.

MM8BDM Discussion / Penalizing Tournament Killers
« on: May 10, 2011, 04:43:19 AM »
Since this is a constant problem, I think it should be addressed and discussed.
There are many tournaments here on Cutstuff, and very few of them reach a conclusion.
This is because of two reasons (depending on the specific case)
(1) The Tournament Holder cancels because they weren't serious, or postpones indefinitely because they can't commit.
and/or
(2) Participants drop out or simply don't participate. This is far more common.

This makes tournaments an unacceptably poor crapshoot. I can personally attest to this, as I have enlisted in four individual tournaments, each with no results thus far. I know I am not alone in this sentiment. Not only is this an extremely selfish action, but it ruins the hard-work and anticipations of others. In the end, many people suffer for the callous apathy of a few choice people.

So here's my idea: Since one must be a member of Cutstuff to create or sign up for a tournament, introduce punishments for backing out. They need not be ban-worthy actions for a first-time offender, but it would discourage people who are not serious about finishing.

So, what do you think about it?

Help & Editing / V1d snes_spc.dll problem
« on: March 25, 2011, 01:29:22 AM »
This may be a dumb question, but it regards a problem I need resolved.

I downloaded v1d and every time I press start on the launcher, it tells me that the application failed to start because snes_spc.dll was not found.
I tried reinstalling it, but it didn't help.

This did not happen with previous versions, what can I do to fix this?

Help & Editing / These multiple .PK3s
« on: February 22, 2011, 08:03:03 AM »
Hey, this is a rather noobish question, but I've tried everything I know about and can't figure it out.
Multiple servers recently, including Savior's server, require both the V1C .PK3 and something called CS_CMP_V1A.PK3.
I tried downloading V1A again, but I can't figure this one out.
I am aware that one can put more than one file in the command line (in this case, I-Pack V2 Wad and this V1A.PK3, but this does not seem to work.

General Gaming Discussion / Duke Nukem
« on: February 12, 2011, 05:33:54 PM »
I just played Duke Nukem 3D for the first time by purchasing it on XBL.
After finishing it, I have to say that it was a fantastic game.
So, I put it to you:
Which do you prefer, DOOM or Duke?
Also, is Duke Nukem very modable?

MM8BDM Discussion / Unfaded?
« on: January 26, 2011, 04:29:53 AM »
Does anyone know anything about this new phenomenon regarding putting the word, 'unfaded' in front of player names in MM8BDM?

It seems like more and more people are doing this, and it would be beneficial for everyone to know why.

MM8BDM Discussion / Regarding The Future
« on: December 31, 2010, 08:55:09 PM »
It seems as if it has been getting more and more difficult to find online servers for MM 8bit DM. There are so many servers that either cheat, require passwords, or require special WADs that finding a regular DM game has become very rare. CTF games are practically nonexistent anymore. I do not appreciate servers that are not open to the general public, and I feel as if this game cannot afford them. I've been playing this game since it came out, and the only thing I have been able to play for weeks has been Roboenza.
How is this game going to attract new people if even I can't find an accessible map? It used to be that private servers were something of a rarity, now they are all too common.
The question that I ask is this: Are the private servers worth it?
I for one have never found the appeal. Playing with the same people is boring as hell.
Frankly, this separation of servers will ruin this game.
I love this game, and I am thinking about deleting it because I just can't play it online anymore.
This needs to change if you have any intent of keeping this game alive.

Mega Man Discussion / Mega Man Battle Network 4
« on: December 29, 2010, 08:00:16 PM »
To those of you who played Mega Man Battle Network 4: what did you think? Here are some of my own thoughts on the matter:

(click to show/hide)

I wish I had better things to say about this game, but I don't. I tried to like it, I really tried. But there are simply no redeeming qualities about this game whatsoever. It was worse than 1-3 in every way imaginable.
Story: 5/10 Not good. The generic dark vs. light theme that games go to when they can't think of anything good. But somehow, this game makes it seem even lamer.
Music: 8/10 It was okay. Not nearly as good as previous games, but these usually have good music.
Gameplay: 8/10 It is hard to mess up the fast-paced action of the series. But the lack of chip space in battles, along with the crappy soul mixture thing really dragged it down.
Replay value: 1/10 If you are truly psychotic, you may want to collect everything from all three difficulties and do every little thing there is to do. However, you will not want to unless you are indeed psychotic. :(

This is a video of a woman throwing puppies into a fast moving river.
Before anyone asks, this is a guaranteed authentic video.
It is not for the faint of heart.
