Final Fantasy VII is Buggy
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:34:14 AM »
I've been playing Final Fantasy VII again for the last week.
I have to say that it loses polish for me every year.
It's one of very few games that I actually like less as time goes on.
This is despite the fact that it was my very first RPG.

I'm not making a thread to talk about FFVII like I did with FFIX.
This is because:
- FFIX is my favorite.
- I don't have much to say about FFVII.

Fact of the matter is, I don't find FFVII half as interesting or compelling as FFIX.

Anywho, there are a lot of errors, bugs, and glitches in Final Fantasy VII.
However, I just learned of one yesterday.
It's called the Magic Defense Bug.

The Spirit stat governs a character's defense against Magic Attacks.
The player's overall Magic Defense was intended to be a sum of the character's Spirit stat and the MDef value of their armor, but due to a bug in the coding, the MDef value is not used and Spirit alone determines the character's Magic Defense.

In a nutshell, this bug prevents the Magic Defense stat of any armor equipped from being added to a character's Spirit stat, effectively making the Magic Defense of all armor completely worthless.

Yeah...
So, if you find yourself playing FFVII, just remember:
MDef doesn't mean a single thing.

Not as buggy as Final Fantasy VI (Evasion bug, Sketch bug, etc.). Over 200 bugs have been found for that game.

NO GUISE FFVII IS ONE THE MOST CLASSIC-EST GAMES EVAR CREATED IT'S UP THERE WITH OOT AND IT'S AMAAAAAAAAAAAZING!!!!1111111111

Yeah, I don't see why FFVII is so hyped these days...I mean, I think the later ones (VIII, IX, X) and even some of the older ones (VI and IV) way outdo it in both gameplay and maybe even storyline...I dunno, I just don't like how people say it's one of the best games ever made when I could easily think of better RPGs made by SQ.

While Final Fantasy VII is a good game, I find other Final Fantasy games better.

Also just in case some of you don't know a few spoilers by now... (Spoilers for FFV and VII)

I couldn't agree more about Galuf > Aeris.
I thought they handled it better in FFV too.
Instead of a character sheet thrown to the wolves, it just transferred.

I thought FFVII was, like, the game to end all games when I first played it.
This was when I was in Junior High (many Eons ago...), and 3D video games were new.
Not only was it the first RPG for many, many people at that time (thanks to the very small amount of RPGs for the Sega Genesis), but it was one of the first 3D titles too.

So, FFVII, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, and Goldeneye 007 gained MASSIVE celebrity status back then, and a lot of it carries to this day.
The fact that we went from 2D to 3D was simply mesmerizing at the time.

So, I guess FFVII is a good RPG, but I would say that IX, V, and IV were more enjoyable.
The game still beats every single FF title after Final Fantasy X, imo.

Since I own a physical copy of FFIX I decided to get FFVII on my PSP and play through it for no reason.

I finished Disc 1 and got to see the cutscene that proves that Cloud Strife is, in fact, Jesus.

Only sharing this because, come on.
Who doesn't know that Aeris dies?
Hint Hint: Samus is a woman under the armor...
