So it wasn't just me then? Huh.
Steam was completely killing my internet whenever I logged on. I had to reset everything after closing it entirely.

It went fine but it say's steam cannot connect to the servers.

Doesn't it always take that long? It's so bad that I would have to close it and reopen it to actually get anywhere. Even if it looks like it's getting various files, it's really not doing anything some times.

The recent patch's download speed is weird.  It was taking forever for me at the beginning, then suddenly completed both parts almost instantly.  I don't know what caused it.

I had the same problem a few weeks back. All I remember doing was spamming log in and it eventually worked.

If the person in question was talking smack before, then clammed up when they got called out on it, that could still qualify as "banning someone because they wouldn't say something" and they probably deserved it. Or it could be someone who showed up to a server and remained silent the entire time, and was kicked unfairly.

This guy Winter X was getting mad because I didn't know how to correctly host SH, and I wouldn't tell him because of that, so he banned me.

Well I mean, if he's the one that's running the server, it's within his right to ban you, even if it is hosted by BE.
