Alright, 2/10 maps are complete so far. No screenshots because when I finally release it, I want you to not know what to expect and a sort of surprise.

I'm trying to complete a map every 3 days.

Lol I saw them, but as you've probably noticed, the title is a joke. Anyway, I'm still working on the maps. I'm only going to post more screenshots when I release it.

Oh and these screenshots... Those are seriously outdated. I will post screenshots actually, but only of AMP01.
Title: Re: AMP map pack.
Post by: TERRORsphere on January 19, 2011, 11:44:53 AM
BTW, I am still working on this map pack. I've got that deadline to meet and I've only made 2 maps :p

Don't worry, these 2 maps I've been experimenting with many different themes and styles and I think I've cracked it.

Expect an update in the future.

EDIT:
You know what, I'm going to push the deadline to "when it's done". I have a life you know... Don't worry, I will TRY to get this done ASAP.

purrrtyyyyy

I must say, symmetrical maps tend to look very beautiful, and this one is no exception.

Post by: Kshakas on January 23, 2011, 07:46:07 AM
Symmetrical maps is a must in any game mode except deathmatch or roboenza, ok invasion too, but tdm or ctf needs symmetry or its not fair.

Why did i even write this, well anyways map seems very good looking, cannot wait to try it.

Good because I've collected all the music, All of which is by Fighter X (apart from a secret one they I will make replace either D_RAVE or D_TTFTW)

The file size is currently 21.2 MB. If people conplain I will trim the songs so that they are shorter. I've already made the tracks mono and .ogg.

Don't touch the music any more! 20 MB is fine, and don't destroy the precious music. I would download it if it was 50 MB.

lol, symmetry

All I see is a crapload of Flame Rails. God, I hate that weapon. You need pinpoint accuracy, or else it acts like Trollnado. Geez, it's almost as bad as to say it's Top Spin without the jump or spinning. Seriously, you have to be about six inches close to the guy to actually land a hit!

More weapons. Do it. inb4tripleblade

Also, the stage looks sort of like one of the background buildings from MM2/Deathmatch's intro. Especially with those city lights and all.

EDIT: Fixed italics. inb4fail

I give you permission to use the Flamethrower but I need to change it a bit if you wanna use it because it blocks yer view and altfire is overpowered.
Title: Re: AMP map pack. (Includes music by Fighter X with permission)
Post by: TERRORsphere on January 26, 2011, 05:53:45 PM
There are only 2 Flame Rail's in the map :/
Title: Re: AMP map pack. (Includes music by Fighter X with permission)
Post by: Hallan Parva on January 26, 2011, 08:34:45 PM
Screenshots: 1 outside, 1 inside. You say the map is symmetrical, meaning there's 4 Flame Rails, if this is true. If the map itself is symmetrical and the weapons are different, then you're right, there are 2 Flame Rails.

Still, even 1 Flame Rail is too much in my opinion (unless it was well hidden). It is YOUR map, though, so I can't really complain.

Also, @YD: Your weapon is amazing. However, I had to go in and set a key for Alt-Fire because no other weapon uses it. :| Maybe you could make the Flamethrower and the Tackle Fire Toss two different weapons? Also, you can chuck the little flame dudes while you're out of ammo, yet the Tackle Fires drain ammo when you have some left... is this intentional?
Title: Re: AMP map pack. (Includes music by Fighter X with permission)
Post by: TERRORsphere on January 26, 2011, 08:37:40 PM
That's a Flame Blast outside, not a Flame Rail. Also, the map is symmetrical, but the item placement isn't.

That's a good point actually, If someone submitted me the Mario tiles I would make a map with them. I already have Metriod tiles but I have no idea how to make them textures. Look at this:

All you need to do is cut them up using THE GIMP or Paint.net or whatever using the region select tool. Select different parts of your composite image (that you posted), make a new image of that small section and save it as a .png

Then in SLADE or Slumped or whatever just import lump from file and put it between either TX_START/ TX_END or PP_START/ PP_END lumps depending on how you plan to use it in the map's context.

It's probably a lot of "busywork" but you have it lucky nowadays that MM8BDM supports .png. As you may or may not know, back in the golden era of Doom you had to make indexed .bmp images that used a 256 color WINDOWS palette (yes, the original doom rendering engine developed on NeXT and ported to MS-DOS used this palette and it was a pain to deal with using the tools available at the time). So count your blessings you whippersnapper

It seems that DTD lacks an incentive (At the moment) to finish the maps for this potentially wonderful map pack. He has entrusted me with the map pack, which includes all the music and layouts and whatnot. In any case, I am considering uploading the 5 finished maps (Very impressive, by the way) and calling it quits at that. I am also considering simply leaking everything and providing a download link for everyone to download and test. If any of you are interested in collaborating with me on this map pack, or simply want me to just upload something, post on this topic and make your voice heard. It makes me sad to see some great maps go unreleased, so I'm hoping that you guys at least respond.

Anyways folks, since this is now my property, I have some things to show you all. As I've already told DTD, I'm currently in the process of dissecting and changing the textures to my liking, looking for different ways I can improve the map. Alas, improving greatness is a difficult task. At the moment, I've added a few slopes to improve the map's flow and changed the textures. Anyways, these are the things I want to show at the moment.

Any improvements are welcome. You can say what's wrong, but also try and say what could make it right. That way, everyone knows that you're a smart cookie and don't come off as a snobbish dick.
Testers are more than welcome at the moment. This includes Roc's Creation and possibly others. At the moment, I want to see if I can people like Rawk or OJ or Celebi to test the map, since I'm sure they'll find something. Alas, I'll take any help at all.

Let's get this necro-bump started off right.
For Tails, after his (her?) help with AMP10 bug testing, and with providing me screenshots of my errors.
I have an announcement to make: I have added to more maps to add to the pack. They are maps I've made with the spare time I've had because of summer vacation. The first map is AMP09, also known as "Cloud Brother". It's a map I've made for the mapping competition Mike had earlier.  The second map is AMP10, based mostly on a layout that SmashBroPlusB gave to me. Special thanks to Myroc for making me realize my map was too big and that I need to learn to interpret blueprints better.
As a generous offering, I've decided to give everyone AMP10, as a demo of the stuff I could potentially make. If Messatsu and that CSCM want to ask me for a map, they can give me a call and I can hopefully whip something up.
Current status of all the maps:
AMP01-04, 09-10: Completed
AMP 05-08:Needs textures, decorations, and more stuff. Layout complete.
AMP 07 is going to be retooled to like an ancient South American temple, similar to Indiana Jones. AMP08 has been handed off to Blaze, voluntarily.
AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE FEATURE PRESENTATION.

AMP MOTHERFUCKIN' 10: LAVA LAKE (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11603985/AMP10.wad)

I added in Colton and a cactus, but you think I forgot to add in a yashichi? The yashichi is near one of the corners. I think it was the corner closest to eddie. The problem is that the rocks are all impassible lines, so you really can't explore the whole map. You could probably noclip to the yashichi.

I'm making an 11th map for the pack, based on SwordBase, a map blueprint SmashBroPlusB made. I know, I should work on improving 5,6,8, and 9 (7, the biggest map ever, is most likely getting scrapped lol), but I have a lot thoughts about maps that I have to let out. Mainly with texture combinations and whatnot. Stone man steps mixed with crystal towers with a purple floor and gemini man's ceiling make a pretty decent combo, in my opinion. IF DTD WANTED TO, He could try and make 7 more complete. Right now, I'm occupied with fixing a lot of stages and I honestly don't know when I'll be done making this map, or retouching the other ones. I'm trudging along man, and I don't know how long it will be before I just come to a sudden halt.
To keep everyone company, here's a screenshot from AMP11, which I'll either name "Purple swords" or "Holland, 1945". If only I could make my own version of this topic and add a poll.
(click to show/hide)
And now, a cheap advert.

IF YOU FIND A BETTER MAP AT A BETTER PRICE, I'LL KICK A PUPPY (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1008) AND PUNCH A KITTEN (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1004). JUST FOR YOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
EDIT: Ice-IX, where is that review of those maps I sent you, hmmm? Why haven't you sent me any feedback, hmmmm? Do you feel that nothing is wrong, or do you feel like listing everything wrong? Seriously man, come at me with something interesting, bro.

I'll work on my computer again tonight (as of now no Skulltag or anything) to try and get it up again. When we last talked about the maps, you said that AMP01-04 were completely done so I assumed you weren't going to change them, and 05-08 you had the changes you wanted to do in mind. My bad! @_@ When I get ST running again I'll look at the maps again. For now, here's some things I can remember well:

AMP01 - Layout is fine even if a bit small. You could remove some of the weapon energy on the ground floor (or expand that area and redistribute them). Even in duel, I thought enough small W.E. in one place to refill a weapon looked silly.

AMP02 - E-tank, M-tank, and Saku are all in odd spots. M-tank is high up but still easier to get than E-tank; iirc Sakugarne would fit in the M-tank spot real nicely. As for the E-tank area - next to the tank are a bunch of odd-elevation changes that go no where (no items or anything), so I'd suggest a filler item like Tango, Treble, etc. which seem mostly absent. Saku's spawn is such an odd place I'd just scrap that spawn point entirely. (on a floor in a random spot along a wall)

AMP03 - Could use less Hyper Bomb spawns; you covered most of the additions already. Definitely an interesting map.

AMP04 - Not a huge fan of some of the weapons here (replacing Freeze Cracker with Blizzard Attack makes much more sense, for example). Like AMP01 you could also expand it, although I'd say expand the inside rather than the outside(which is what I would do for 01, if necessary). On the inside there's not a whole lot of interesting fighting elements. Given a little height variation/expansion you could possibly reduce weapon spawn duplications and make it a little more interesting to walk-through. I'll steal -Ran's quote that was "a good duel map should be Skull Man(/MAP01) size". It's more of a potential issue in 01, but I feel both these maps would provide so little cover that it'd be easy to spawn-kill.

But like you said, they are done and it shows. Layout I had no gripes with (except one spot in 02). 05-08 I would really need skulltag to be able to talk about, so I'll work on that (and you axed 7, anyway). The new maps I haven't seen at all for the same reason, although I'd be glad to when I have it running again. (man, no ST is really killing my writeup skills) But rest easy - 01-04 aren't in any desperate needs of changes, but I'll offer my suggestions where I feel useful. Summary:
01: Add
02: Change
03: Leave as-is (I'll look at this again to be sure)
04: Add

All left to your discretion, of course. After all, I'm not "someone who's experienced"; the other reason why I strayed from this project a bit.

Progress bump for the night. Floor and Ceiling textures are going to be dark so that the whole map doesn't blind everyone with it's brightness. Some tricky skybox issues, but I can hopefully maneuver past them.In any case, I just wanted to get an update for the night to show that I have some work going into this damn thing. I'll be spending the next few days making a website for a friend, so I won't have any time to work on the pack. Blaze has been given clearance to edit AMP08: Indiada Jodes. AMP07, the giga-stage, is still up in the air. Me and Blaze may have to tackle it together and hope we can make something interesting from it. For now, I bring a small update to AMP11: Holland, 1945.

More progress made on AMP11, to the point I actually believe I can make it a saturday release. Still some sections to cover and some scripts to implement, but all the needed textures are already in the stage. I'll also talk to DTD about doing something on Sunday, but I don't think he'll agree. Oh well...
*sends DTD a PM*
I got permission from Danooct1 and kevvviiinnn to use a song in the pack, although I probably won't implement it until later on. It's a song Danooct1 made for a 1000th subscriber special, which was basically a cover of one of Kevvviiinnn's RPG songs.
Tomorrow is a tricky day. I gotta send some e-mails, duel Muzaru, make a website, and finish AMP11. Hopefully everyone will love the maps DTD, Blaze, and I have created and that it actually gets hosted, preferrably by Messatsu. Only time will tell if we get the approval, let alone stay on the servers for very long.

AMP Map-Pack will not be released on Saturday. Come back Sunday, when I will have compiled something that I'm sure everyone will be able to enjoy. DTD knows what it is. Once AMP11 is completed, we will finally go over the previous maps and begin to touch every map up. This process will take a month at most, meaning you can expect a mid-august release for this map pack. If I go and rush through all the maps, DTD minds fixing up AMP07 for us, and Blaze gets done with AMP08, you could expect a Late-July release instead. Thank you for being patient with us throughout the production of what we hope will go down as the greatest MM8BDM map pack of all time. OF ALL TIME. OF ALLLLLLLL TIIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. MARK MY WORDS I-PACK V3, WE WILL SURPASS YOU. I'LL MAKE DAMN SURE OF IT HAPPENING OR ELSE MY NAME ISN'T JUAN ALEJANDRO MONTOYA SANCHEZ.

This isn't a competition. This is just me trying to set high standards for myself so that I don't end up churning out some half-assed map pack. By half-assed, I mean that 1/2 is DTD's amazing work, while the other 1/2 is the crap I've gone and made. Still, competition is always a good incentive for creators to produce more interesting maps. Well, in my opinion, all one needs to make a good map is a good layout and the skills to implement it into DB2.

And logical weapon/item placement.

Send me AMP07 and I'll see what I can do.

Can you make sure AMP04, the symmetrical map uses the right music?...
It should use "Track_3", and AMP03 should use "Track_4"...

Ladies and gents, I have good news, slightly bad news, and some more good news.
Good news: Beta compiled, have fun tomorrow.
Slightly bad news: Due to Scott Pilgrim music being illegal to use, (http://www.cutstuff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3015) I have removed my scott pilgrim songs from AMP10.
Some more good news: They will be replaced by music brought to you by none other than....

Being the total bro, he has given me a music pack and given me the ability to implement some tracks into the maps. All of the maps I've made (AMP 09-11) will now include custom music brought to you by your friendly neighborhood bro.
And now, an audio plea by yours truly.

Ladies and gentlemen, today is the day. What we are about to display is something that you will hopefully enjoy. I don't want to make a long speech about all this. I'll just release it.
PRESENTING... IN ASSOCIATION WITH BB STUDIOS.... A DTD PRODUCTION.

AMP-MAP-PACK : PUBLIC BETA. (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11603985/AMP-Beta.pk3)
Now please, don't post "ZOMFG COOOOL". It's not like we were gonna get those posts to begin with, but I just wanted to make sure. For now, just post any errors and suggestions for the map pack that we could include. If you want a theme to go with a map, hit me up and I'll see what I can do. If you spotted a texture glitch that annoys you, post in this topic ASAP. Enjoy the maps, and have fun.

Revision of every AMP map is now in progress. Seeing as how 1-4 are mostly complete, I'll leave those alone until the final stages of revision. For now, I've made it a priority to improve map 05. Here's an example to show how much I can butcher overdo disgrace make a map seem slightly uglier prettier.

OH boy DTD, I got myself in a little doozy. See, I was working on making pillars for AMP05, when I went and tested the whole thing. It turns out you can shoot through said pillars. Now here's the thing: Should I remove the mid texture and find another way to make the pillar, or is there a way to fix it? Here's the current settings:

Why not just delete the sector they're on, making them into walls? Then you could texture them as such.

After going through the public beta testing with Saviorsword, I would like to say the following.
FUCK. CRITICS.
Now that that's out of my system, I've listened to Savior on some things and have made the necessary changes. AMP01 no longer has the dining table, although I didn't expand it. It's tricky to expand a stage that has a lot of detail put into it. I'm just too afraid to relocate any part of it without making it look skewed.
AMP02 has been changed a lot. Ok, the only thing I changed was that a lot of the sections have been widened. That way, people like Savior don't have a tough time navigating and don't fall every 20 seconds. Weapon energy has been reluctantly removed.
AMP03 is probably the easiest to change, since it mainly involves the relocation of some weapons. Also, I have to go and spread all the weapon energy out, rather than have 4 capsules accompany every weapon. Version 2 of the beta will be released tomorrow, with all the changes implemented into. PLAY THE BETA! ENJOY THE MAPS! HAVE FUN!

I'll make sure to change that, DTD. Right now, I'm focusing on completing AMP05, which will be the LAST map to be made from near-scratch. I feel like making it into a sort of nightclub perched alongside some volcanoes, but I'm sure that wouldn't look too amazing. Oh well, it's what I'm doing anyways.

Would the real Robert Seaton please stand up? I repeat, would the real Robert Seaton please stand up? Alright, we got a problem here. So Darkaura gave me another music pack to use. This time, it's from a cancelled Megaman fan game, known as Megaman Returns (http://www.seatonweb.com/mmr/) (From Elysium after the end of MML2. Too bad they cancelled MML3, meaning he's stuck there FOREVER). Some of the tracks are made from a man named Robert Paulson, which include the tracks I want to use from AMP05. In any case, should I try and contact him for permission, or should I just include his tracks in the map and give him credit? Here's the tracks if anyone wants to listen to them.
MMRBOSS (Robot Master Battle Theme) - Robert Seaton (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11603985/MMRBOSS.ogg)
SOUNMUS (Sound Man's Theme) - Robert Seaton (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11603985/SOUNMUS.ogg)
Fun fact: I went to a nightclub once in my entire life. I wasn't allowed back in.
EDIT: HOW HELPFUL CAN ONE PERSON BE. Darkaura found the composer's youtube page. I've sent him a message asking to use his music. Hopefully, I get the permission.

Uh i found something in AMP03 that i think was not intended

Where the W tank is, the walls are using air man textures.

Since Air Man is ugly, and they are the default textures, i doubt that was intentional

DTD, is it okay if I get rid of the Transfer heights action? I feel like making a bridge instead of using of that action. Also, it conflicts with the design of the map, which is about 40% finished. Also, here's some name suggestions for the map. I'm sure none of them are good, but I feel like throwing them out there. I'm currently waiting on a disco ball and some custom floor textures.

Hmmm... Starlight Zone's slow pace and catchy rhythm, or Sound Man's fast pace and repetitively hypnotic beat? It's a tough call for me. Do I go for a disco, or a rave? Since most of AMP's maps uses adrenaline-inducing music, I could go with Sound Man to keep it that way. But Starlight Zone sounds like something I could jam to all day....
*tosses a coin* Heads, it's Starlight Zone. Tails, it's Sound Man. I'm still using the MMRBOSS music.

I may go with Saturday night fever as the title, although I also have a strong preference for "music sounds better with you". In either case, the whole map layout has been cpmpleted now and you can expect a new version of the beta on monday. You know what this means, right guys?

The current plan so far;
Sunday: touch up AMP05 and 09. Compile the final version of the beta.
Monday: release the beta and touch up AMP 2, 6, 9, and 11.
Thursday : check with DTD about the maps, discuss AMP08.
Friday: Hand over the maps to DTD for final review.
Someday: AMP map pack is released

Welp, AMP Beta V3 is being compiled now. It's been a pain in the ass to get the rain to activate (lol, I suck at scripts) but I got it to work. However, it may lag some people. That's if you have a crappy pc, of course. Or you don't have a great graphics card, like mine lol. This will be the last version of the beta that will be released, unless there's some serious problems with AMP 05 and 09. I could believe someone if they said 09 was meh, but 05 seems to be a solid piece of work. Oy, this map pack is becoming a big piece of work.

Play this first plox

Ok, now that you're listening to music and getting comfy, let me tell you a little story about AMP and this whole damn process that we've gone through. So I was in this duel server one day minding my own business. The map was Mr.X, if I recall correctly. DTD / TerrorSphere connects to the server and mentions his AMP map pack that's been in development. He says that he's tired of detailing every section of the map and making everything over a long time. He tells me that YD hates his themes, and then the rest of the conversation is kind of blurry in my memory. I ask if I could actually make the rest of the map pack, which he simply agrees to. I originally was going to just leak the maps and then call it a day, but I saw some of the incomplete maps he had and they looked pretty amazing.
Anyways, I get to work on it using Doombuilder 1. I had no idea why the weapons won't show up, but I ignored that little bit and just looked at the sections. The one change I actually made was to the slopes on AMP06, and that was because Blaze had to tell me which action did it. Oh wait, it wasn't blaze. I actually had to look at another map to see how to do it. Anyways, I play a little with AMP06 and then post mediocre screenshots of what I've done. Everything is going good. At least, that's what I kept telling to myself as I tried to add some parts to the map and remove other parts. In the end, I basically get confused at how to work in Doombuilder and abandon the map as it is. This was back in about May.
It's mid-June, and summer vacation kicked in. I'm bored out of my frickin' mind, when Cutmanmike's little map competition is started. I think "Hey, why not" and actually get Doombuilder 2 to work on the maps. I basically gather every mapping tutorial I could gather from Cutstuff and begin studying each one so that I actually know what I'm doing when I begin mapping. I could remember working for an hour straight on the bridges and also on the texture choices. This would soon become my first map ever made, also known as Cloud Brother. I talk to SSW about how I make certain parts of my map work, as well as question what the other maps look like. He sends me his map, and I'm completely dumbstruck by what I'm seeing. I remember feeling my heart sink a little at how amazing his map is compared to mine. Eventually, we talk about how he makes maps and he shows me a little link that leads to a webpage covering the basic principles of Architecture. To this day, I still have the page bookmarked. (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.03/play.html) This was the first of two huge conversations I would have with the mapping master, with the second one leading to a conversation about being alpha, Nu, Sonia, and some other people I couldn't quite remember.
At this point, I'm looking for more ideas for maps after my first taste with Cloud Brother. Enter SmashBroPlus, who has these blueprints that people have completely forgotten about. I begin work on the first map, while Myroc also catches whiff of the blueprints and  begins work on his own version. I'm going to admit: The Lava Lake you see and love today wouldn't be that way if it weren't for Myroc. I talked with Myroc after he said it was alright if we collaborated and compared layouts. I show him my huge map, and he shows me his nearly-finished map. My map has a bunch of missing textures and looks like crap. He has textures from specific stages and nothing more. He tells me that my map is too big, so I basically redo the map from scratch. It looks similiar to Myroc's, and some could suspect that I simply went and modified his map to my liking. This is not true at all. I spent days looking at textures and began finding which textures could go with which section. My map turns out to be a little of everthing, with textures from nearly every stage imaginable. That's when I remember something.
Amp-map-pack. The abandoned little piece of potential that was left out in the cold and left in my amateur hands. Feeling confident, I say that I've gained enough experience to begin really working on AMP. That's when I make the AMP10 post, and where we start our current journey.
Oh good, the map pack finished uploading a while ago. Anyways, this is the AMP-Map-Pack Beta. Version 3.

Behind the scenes, many of my music choices aren't made by me. Instead, I get solid advice from my friendly neighborhood bro, Darkaura. It seems however that I've got a tad bit of a conflict. Mainly, this regards the music choices of AMP05 and 09. With Darkaura's original Fissure Man theme being used for Cloud Brother, Darkaura thought it would be a better suggestion to use this song instead.

I honestly don't know whether to keep the theme or use this one instead. Another thing I have a bit of trouble with is implementing Fighter X music into the maps. Originally, only the maps made purely by DTD would have that music. After listening to everything by Fighter X, however, I feel like using this track for AMP05.

I kinda need help figuring it out. In any case, no real progress made on AMP today. I got a little bored of relocating and replacing items, so I've given myself a mini-vacation. Come back on Sunday or something for more updates.

A minor setback today in the world of AMP. It seems that blaze has relinquished AMP08 to me. He has decided to continue work on his RNC wood man map and dedicate his time to other projects. Here's wishing Blaze and the RNC crew good luck with their project! And now, a small rant...
The x-pack. A wonderfully crafted map pack that was actually the first major map pack to have a release. With it's humble beginnings in the SGC demo, to version 2b today, it's been one man's heart and soul put into one meticulously crafted map pack that serves as one of my greatest inspirations today. It has implemented some amazing concepts that I believe have been unfairly ignored, and it has many details put into each map, being easy on the eyes while still drawing attention. While my maps can catch a user's attention, some have noted brightness issues (lol, software users) that put a small strain on their eyes. The Mr.X map pack is honestly my favorite map pack and I try my hardest to emulate it's attention to detail.
Here's what I'm angry about: looking over all the servers today, none of them seem to have the x-pack included. Why do people ignore this map pack? Why ignore the brilliant work one man put into each of his maps, in favor of okay-good maps made by a bunch of people who share talks over skype? Is this map pack going to suffer the same fate? Will all my work be put to nothing, left in the background while weakly designed maps get the attention? Now, I'm not aiming this at CSCM. OK, I'm aiming some of my anger at CSCM, but I'm more angered by the hosts who ignore the Mr.X map pack. You're already required to have 4 different wads to enter one server, so why not add one more?
Again, no progress made on AMP today. Still going through my mini-vacation. For now, I plan to dedicate time to putting together AMP08 and then begin revision (again) of the rest of the amp maps. Special shout-outs to Metal Manu, Nuy and Lag Man for spotting some issues with my maps. You guys rock!

Keep in mind, the X Pack uses Triple Blade as a custom weapon. Which eliminates some compatibility with any Map Pack that uses custom weapons. Otherwise. Yes, I agree. I do miss the X-Pack.

Part of the reason I believe this is because there seems to be this idea of quantity vs quality floating around. In sense, MM8BDM spoils us by having a large amounts of quality maps when compared to other FPS games which tend to have 10-15 by approximation. When it comes to CSCM and everything connected to it, it has like what, over 30-40 maps or so? Well it's a lot more additional maps to play. Which doesn't make much sense when there are many other mappacks out there that don't use custom weapons, thus could be hosted as well.

However, you are wrong about one thing. The X-Pack wasn't the first Mappack. He had one of the first maps ever released, but it wasn't actually a map pack. I released the first major map pack, Mr X didn't actually make the X-Pack until later.

The original AMP02 has been revised, leaving amp 6,8,9, and 11 to look upon. 8 will have to be built from near-scratch (again) because blaze didn't finish the map originally. I've been given permission to use ground man textures, and I plan to use them alongside pharaoh textures to achieve the desired look. Looking at Mr.x's "Sand Sea", I notice he has an accompanying color to go along along with all the orange. I will most likely throw in shades of yellow and brown, with small details all along the ground and ceiling to make it look deteriorated. Here's hoping I don't overdo the bright colors like I did with AMP05, but still stick to a unique design.
Last thing I want to say: Darkaura gave one last suggestion for AMP09. Yes, or no?

DTD YOU LIE It's alright if you can't finish it in the next week or so. I have AMP08 on my plate, which means I'll be busy figuring out which textures I should work with. Maybe we can actually collaborate on this one? over skype or some other IM?
Thanks to all the people showing texture errors left and right. It really helps to know that when this map pack is finished, I won't be releasing a buggy set of maps. So far, we've found a teleporter texture glitch in AMP01. We've also found a skybox error in AMP05, as well as some imperfect walls. If you've noticed these errors, please do not report them again. These errors have been fixed. And now, some thoughts...
Textures. Over the production of this map pack, I have tried my hardest to stray away from using textures from a set amount of stages. People say it makes sense to just use all the textures from a couple of stages. There would be no point in me actually looking for other combinations of textures if I managed to stick to a couple stages worth of textures. It's what you see in the x-pack, the i-pack, and basically every other map pack at the moment. I guess I try to be different by playing with textures by color rather than stage. Simply put, being my first map pack (partially), I want to explore what textures can actually go together and try to make interesting designs out of the 1000+ textures at my disposal. Has it worked? Somewhat. People are requesting I tone down the amount of textures that I use, arguing that while everything fits together, it comes off as a huge cluster of details. It's something that I'll have to learn in the long run. For now, it's a matter of getting this map pack out to the public soon.
Progress? Ummmm, AMP08 is still in its early stages. I'll finish revising amp06 tonight and then improve amp09.

Been playing shitty in duel today. 3-5 all day erry day olo. Anyways, here's the current update on the progress.
AMP06 seems finished, meaning that all that's left to do is AMP08,09, and 11. For AMP09, towers will be added in the middle to give people a place to plant Treble Sentry. These will also count as weapon spawns, to make the match go a little faster. Most likely, these weapon spawns will have metal blade and thunder bolt on opposing sides, with thunder beam in the middle.
AMP11 will need to have its teleporters fixed, since one of them doesn't seem to want to actually function. I have no idea why. Anyways AMP11 will be the last stage(?) in the map pack, assuming SSW's ctf map isn't completed by then. Review copies of AMP06 have been sent out to gather feedback. AMP09 will be completely revised (again, lol) tonight. And now, because people looooove progress, here's a screenshot of AMP11: Adjective Location. No seriously, that's what I'm calling it. I'm so sick of seeing people name their maps like this. Dust Bowl, Strange Castle, underwater cave or some bs like that. Most people don't get annoyed by that. I do just because.

For the new map you sent me bb, the stairs leading to top spin should be walkable, dive missile is borderline useless in there, and so is treble. Speaking of treble, its too much effort to get him. And the music is... eh

@ Savior:
Most of them shouldn't disappoint you. You might still dislike 01 for still being too small and 09 for the giant middle pathways. Just don't call my maps "outright terrible". The last time you said that, I wanted to rip your head off.
@ Nu: Not every weapon should be incredibly easy to get. Top Spin is a powerful weapon, you know. I agree about Dive, and you can use one of the two rush coils hidden in the map to acquire the sentry. I added placeholder music so that you would hear something while playing. It's one of those maps where I really can't claim it has a theme, so I just add a song that sounds good.

For AMP, item placement will begin on 11, while 09 will get some final tune-ups. After testing the final version of 09, the rain seems to cause mondo lag with everyone. Gummy never said anything about his PC or any server errors, so I assumed it was just a little too much for gummy's little server to handle. Nu handles it fine, so I'm most likely going to remove rain in some spots that aren't needed. As for AMP10, Lava Lake, I'll switch to a three-color scheme throughout. I'm going to switch the red and blue sections with something different, and most of the stage will stick to a needleman theme. That way, I can tone down the amount of textures without having everything look clustered together. I honestly didn't like Nu's advice too much, but he was right about textures. Then again, it never hurts to experiment with different textures.
AMP08 and 07 are still incomplete as fuck. I don't think we'll finish those for another week. But when we do....
We'll still have to configure the map pack to work with the mm7 expansion. Adding a new weapon is a lot harder than one might think, so DTD will have to do some magic and get the flame rail working again. That's all for now.

A couple of mistakes.

1.) You ignored me the entire time, never saying a word.
2.) I asked you if you were angry with me about said loss.

I felt very uncomfortable with your presence, since you obviously were cross with me in some fashion.
I shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable on my own server, so I banned you for two hours so you might cool off.
It's nothing personal, and I don't think it was at all unwarranted.

However, I am sad that that happened.
So, let's kiss make up, eh?
Mutual apologies?

You banned him, yet he did not say a word. You banned him because your feelings were altered (you were made uncomfortable), you most likely would not have banned anyone else in the same scenario, and you were also "sad" that you banned him. Claiming that it was "not personal" contradicts those previous statements. I wouldn't expect BlueBrawl to apologize, nor do I think he needs to.

Just a suggestion, of course. Nothing personal.

Anyways AMP11 will be the last stage(?) in the map pack, assuming SSW's ctf map isn't completed by then.

Hmm. If you're serious about adding CTF maps (this is a sudden shift), can you attempt to get the CTF maps from DTD's unreleased CTF map packs? He started a 4-team CTF map pack and possibly a 2-team CTF map pack(this one I'm not sure about). If you can, this pack would be a great place to implement them, and people would have more incentive to host it in CTF servers (one map isn't much. Even two maps did the trick for X-Pack).

Unrelated, just wanted to say I can't give map feedback until my computer's back (likely this weekend). Didn't intend to leave ye hangin'.

Item placement for AMP11 is still in progress, although I feel I will end up widening up a couple of sections. Touring the map, I feel a few sections could be widened up so that players don't end up feeling like the map is linear. Considering the weapons that are actually going into the map, I think players will appreciate the extra space. Review copies of the original amp02 will go out later tonight so that some folks have something to do while I'm gone. I won't make any sort of update tomorrow due to the fact I'm going to a sweet 15 (Quinceañera). While I'm gone, I hope Roc and Savior can give out their reviews of the beta. After their reviews are in, I'll make the necessary changes.

BB & DTD - Another Medal Please map pack Beta
8.8/10
[Breakout maps/First maps]
A madman comes into a server one day, disgruntled from working so hard. He meets a naive, innocent, young boy who's seen his work before. They get into a conversation, and the rest is history. Following a hiatus and some drawbacks, BB and DTD have still managed to complete a portion of their maps and release them to the public to give them a taste of their work. The taste is mostly sweet, with a small hint of sour.

AMP01 - Welcome to the AMP show
A welcoming title to a powerful first map. Right off the bat, DTD does his best to impress the player with a solid layout, incredible detail, and a soundtrack that stands out from the music we've heard before. After a while, however, the size of the whole map leaves players gasping for space. It's size is it's only real flaw, and it really comes off as a beautiful map.

AMP02 - Lava Lake
The naive little boy wanted to try to copy his master's style, and it's somewhat successful in this map. The layout of the map is convenient to navigate, although the width of some of the sections can make the players a little scared of the lava below. The weapon selection feels solid, although it feels like the weapons are a little too weak to work with. The energy placement is good, although the w-tanks could be held back a bit. For the boy's second map, this is far from bad.

AMP03 - Pseudo Symmetry
Refraining from detailing every nook and cranny of the map, and deciding to give the people a smooth look that's easy on the eyes, DTD's next map feels incredibly fun, with a layout that's seemingly symmetrical and a weapon selection that feels a little balanced, despite having different weapons on either side. The hard knuckle and Crash bombs compete with the air shooter and ice slasher, while plant barrier and metal blade are thrown near the middle to give the player some variety. The underwater section feels like a penis joke, with two bubble leads on opposite sides and water wave at the tip. Still, it feels balanced enough to not warrant many complaints. The eddie spawn, however, could use a relocation.

AMP05 - Musique
When DTD sent the little boy the layout of this map, the boy felt he could make something amazing from the layout given to him. Generating his own detailed sections and pseudo-nightclub theme, this map stands as, quite possibly, the boy's greatest map to date. The three-color scheme of pink, blue, and purple culminate in an unbelievably eye-catching map that feels somewhat clustered together. With so many textures in so many places, it feels like we're looking at too much at one time. Otherwise, it's become a personal favorite for the boy and feels like it's a few texture replacements away from a good map.

AMP09 - Cloud Brother
The boy had to start somewhere, and it seems like he started with a cloud-themed map. Seen as possibly the worst map of the whole pack (which is saying something) this map's layout feels like it could drag the match out too long. The glass bridge feels excessive, with a lack of weapons on it to improve the flow of the whole map. While one section of the map provides incredible detail, the rest of the map feels scrapped together at the last second to provide a larger map. The secret skull barrier also feels a tad bit unnecessary, as does the colton decoration. Finally, the music of the map doesn't really go together with the theme of this map. For the boy's first map, this is acceptable.

Overall, this map pack feels like it packs a solid punch, although it feels weak in some spots. If they can take care of their mistakes, they'll definitely compete with the I-pack and X-pack for the greatest map pack of all time. 8.8/10

- Bluebrawl, August 9, 2011
For AMP progress, I should be finished with item placement for 11 tonight. That doesn't mean the map is complete, however. I still have to fix the teleporters and add music that suits the map. Then, if Rawk or Turbo have the time, maybe he can help record a highlight reel of the map pack and send me the clips to compile an amazing video. Rawk is a total bro once you get to know him, and has 65 records in SRB2. Freakin' madman.

AMP09: Not too bad! Couple of spots to look at:
-Rush Coil spawn on the floor; the area with the junk shield/ceiling teleport destination. One, the side of the slope going up the Ballade Cracker has a solid green wall... Yikes. Fabricate some textures if you have to, just do something to make it consistent with the other colored slopes (which have textures). Also, I would make this slope go up AND down, from:

____-

to:

/ -

and the Rush Coil would be moved somewhere else. (you would add a slope where the Rush Coil spawn is currently, so you can walk up from either side) Additionally, the top of the slope could be a little longer or wider. That slope(s) leads us onto the narrow pathway we take to get Ballade Cracker. The high-rise we walk along to get to Ballade is... unappealing from the sides. The wall textures here just don't look like they should loop. As for Ballade Cracker... it's kind of a meager reward, isn't it? You mentioned worry about weapon set, and there's a good reason for doing so. Generally, as maps get larger, you want a strong weapon you can carry around that packs a punch for whoever you find first. Atomic Fire makes the most sense to me, Noise Crush does the job a little less. Blizzurr and Mangets definitely take advantage of the open areas. Tomahawk and Air are similar trajectory weapons and Tomahawk doesn't really "fit" the map's theme so much. If you want power weapons, Power Stone and Yamato Spear give you a good punch, and Quick Boomerangs would fit nicely when you catch your enemy up close. The lightning guns/drill bombs just aren't nearly as effective at chasing.

Also slowing down the map is TWO shield weapons! Junk Shield just slows down things horrifically, ESPECIALLY when you lack a ripper weapon (e.g. Atomic as stated above). I don't like Skull Barrier here because it has no gimmick to use in a wide open area; you can't walk in any of the deathpits because they're so deep. If you want a cool "reward" item, Super Adaptor / Mirror Buster are my first choices, Sakugarne being the "lol" option. The m-tank is a bit unnecessarily hidden, giving a huge advantage to auto-mappers etc. against people seeing the map the first time / unaware, whereas Adapt/Mirror just gives them a hidden trump card. Junk Shield also encourages W-Tank farming, to the point I'd say putting the two in the same map is bad. The two shield weapons can go, really.

At the 2nd Rush Coil spawn (across wtank, up the slope) there's no window in the window-hole. Seems like a consistency oversight, not sure. When we walk out of that area, there's this empty corner next to Silver Tomahawk... a weapon could go here. (preferably one of the powerful sort) In the thunder bolt room next to the 3 "Cloud Brothers", the impassible linedef could be pushed back so that players can stand on the window. If you're worried about map size (I'm not from what I've seen, it's fairly easy to get around) you can always give turbosphere give SR50 scorch wheel move the main building-areas closer together and shrink the size of the bridge. I think weapon choices is what would slow the map down most, though - for a map this size, you really lack the hard-hitters, and you've definitely got spots for more weapons. I like it! You made this map for a competition not knowing what you were going up against, and I think it turned out nicely.

Just an aesthetic suggestion - why not replace yashichis with Colton? He's your trademark character; he could serve the same role. Besides, the yash in the dull corner isn't too interesting to begin with. Take away yashs, give Colton some love.

AMP02 (Holland): Still think the W-tank / flame man / "danger" area is a bit awkward-ish.

I'll return to the rest of the maps, most of my ideas right now are for Cloud Brother so I'll share them here. You got it, brother. boy where's the other completed duel map?

Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland is the greatest donut shop of all time. Everything else is opinionated bullshit.
For AMP, I've done absolutely nothing lol. Starting tomorrow though, me and DTD should start going into "crunch time". What this means is that we really start putting some effort into this map pack and focus on really getting this map pack out at soon as possible. Summer vacation is nearly over, and god forbid this gets a september release. Anyways, I'll have most of the 90% maps cleared tomorrow and begin focusing on AMP08. I may invite a special guest to collaborate with me on this map, so that they can begin gaining good experience with mapping. That way, if they were start an expansion of their own, which they have been thinking of, they can start off on the right foot. Of course, they can reject the invite and let me fly solo. Again.
FFFFFFF DTD YOU BETTER MAKE AMP07 THE GREATEST MAP OF ALL TIME OR SOUL HELP ME.
Also, regarding Ken's request... I'll make a secret duck that plays that music. It could work as boss music for AMP09 though. Speaking of 09, I got permission to use the music Tails once requested. This means this map pack just got 20% less horrible! huzzah.

Instead of working on AMP08 like I was supposed to, I decided to put that aside (again) and work on looping the music for this map pack. An issue that was reported by some folks was that the music didn't loop at all. I took about a half-hour today editing the songs and making them loop-friendly. At least, that's what I think I did. Honestly, all I did was just cut the first .2 seconds off each track, then head to the end of the track and cut it off where I felt it would loop best. 8 Fighter X tracks all ready for inserting, clocking in at a slightly hefty 16.1 MB. At least that means there are basically only two maps remaining in the map pack. We still need to make some weapon fixes, but I think that will be saved for later.

The weapons have been sent to DTD for fixing. I assume he's mostly done with AMP07 at this point, so I can hopefully cross that off the list. Right now, I'm in the process of rushing through AMP08 and making sure that the product released to the public isn't some half-assed piece of crap. Major texture choices seem complete for the most part. There's still one section to design, and then there is the annoying process of adding more detail and then adding items. I'll look for a good temple theme tonight and then see what I come up with. Anyways, here's a screenshot of AMP08: Indiada Jodes.

At the end of the day, this is what I feel the project will end up like. Some obscure map pack that's only appreciated by hipsters and will be disregarded by the general public because lolnotheme. Afterwards, the band splits up and their lead singer ends up having nervous breakdowns.
Anyways, back to updates. The music for AMP will be about 24 MB big, and that's just the music alone. Expect another 2.5 MB for the maps themselves and you have quite the large map pack. In either case, music credits and credits have been updated, so I don't think I have to write anything for the rest of the map pack. I also put a little "Dedications" section at the bottom in case DTD wanted to give any sort of special shoutout to anyone. AMP08 has also been handed off to someone in case they wanted to make edits. I'll probably end up finishing the map on my own and copying whatever they put into my version. Hope you guys enjoyed the beta.rest of the map pack. With the new skulltag and 3d floor option, I decided to toy around with it and think about the number of things we could make. Right off the bat, I'm thinking about new concepts for maps like AMP09. For now, I'm focused on implementing it in maps like AMP08. Here's a little taste of what I mean.
(click to show/hide)
Of course, I have noticed a little drawback with the whole thing.
(click to show/hide)
Most of the major design choices for AMP08 have been completed. At this point, it's about adding more detail to the map and making sure my scripts don't get jumbled with each other. Expect an oil pit, a sand pit, and some wobbly floors.Hopefully, these choices don't interfere with Darkaura's current design. Oh right. I forgot to mention that Darkaura, your friendly neighborhood bro (who has a pretty kickass avatar right now), is gonna try to help me with this map. Seeing as how Darkaura is already based enough to tinker around with Doombuilder, I figured I would give him a bigger challenge. I say he's more than up to it, so we'll see what this impressive mapper has up his sleeves. Expect my version of AMP08 to be completed over the weekend. DTD, if you're reading this, can you just send me the finished weapon and AMP07? I don't want to have to send Over 24 MB of looped music and maps to you, since I figure it would be much faster for you to just upload less than 1MB of stuff to me. I'll send you a PM tonight asking for some stuff not related to those two items.

I've been playing with scripts and I've gotten it so that I can have an oil pit and a sand floor. Now to begin the slightly tedious process of adding details to every section of the map. Might also have to add more to the grass, thanks to YD's reccomendations. The map itself uses textures from Pharaoh Man, although other maps are applied. Mostly maps that have brown or orange textures. I've made the decision to remove to remove the 3D floor from the map, in the very case we switch versions of Skulltag. Quite unlucky timing to release a map pack, am I right?

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGREEN

The bar thing is simple: Copypasta v2c's SBARINFO into the SBARINFO of the mappack. Then add the new bars in.

Ammo is adding the MM7 weapons to the script

Just keep in mind Bluebrawl, this is the draw back of having custom weapons. You are going to have to update the sbar info and w-colors every single time MM8BDM updates one or the other. There's also the matter of losing compatibility with other content that uses custom weapons.

Keep it in mind, there is a reason why I took the Triple Blade out of the I-Pack.

When MM8BDM updates? Is Cutman still working on MM8BDM?
It's a risk we're willing to take.

MM8BDM shouldn't stop people from making custom weapons.

Fixed.

It was more a warning that whenever MM8BDM makes an update to the sbarinfo or w-colors, you'll have to update AMP to fix compatibility.

Weapon mods on MM8BDM somewhat remind me of DeHackEd... because you can't have 2 different weapon mods loaded on the same game.

Guys, remember when I said that the weapons were the last thing to fix? Well, I lied. AMP 02 and 07 inexplicably crash. My best guess is that these two stages have custom textures inside them, but that's just me. In any case, AMP is delayed lol. To make up for this, I added something more to the pack to keep you all company.

Another last-minute error I can't seem to fix. I can privately host these maps just fine, even switch between them too, but the second I try to join my own server with these maps, I get slapped in the face with an error.
Code: [Select]
Level Authentication failed
Please make sure you are using the same exact wad(s) as the server, and try again
First, I removed the little improv textures wad I made. Then I edit the maps to make sure they are clear of any of those unwanted custom textures. Still, nothing. The mapinfo is unchanged, and everything was working with the version with two defunct stages. I'm willing to put AMP02 as the main culprit. I'm at a standstill here folks. I honestly don't know what to do.

Well folks, I'm willing to cut a trade with all of you. If it means it's more likely to get hosted, I'll make another version (V1.1) that will remove the custom weapons from each map and still allow it to be compatible with every other expansion out there. It sucks too, because I feel that these two weapons are especially awesome, especially with Flame Rail. DTD, what do you say?
Edit: Anyone that wants to criticise this map pack are more than welcome to do so. I may feel a bit mad, but if it means that we learn some things, that's fine.

Just to let you know, I'm not responsible for fixing the weapons as the credits say. Bluebrawl used DTD's patch, which makes gravity hold acts like the old one and makes the mm7 weapons not get refilled from mtanks. It also doesn't make eddie drop flame rail or flamethrower.

I don't think most duelists hate either weapon. Slash claw is hard to ohko with, and Top spin can easily countered by running away from the guy and hitting him while's he spinning.
Regarding guard rails in AMP04.... Nah. It's not my fault you didn't see where you were going. I might implement a beat call to keep you happy though.

First person to write a full review for AMP wins all my respect forever. Otherwise, I'll have version 1.1 laying comfy in my hard drive. If hosts completely drop AMP due to compatility issues, I'll let 1.1 out. It honestly sucks seeing custom weapons being detrimental to compatibility. If Gummy makes his patch, though, we should be fine.

Anyway on amp09 in one of the corners of the map where a yamato spear is outside you can jump and land on the sky at the bottom which i think is supposed to be instant death. And on amp12 if you fly around the windows in the outer area you have the weird effect of not having a texture (where you move and it creates multiple images).

Found a few more things that are little bugged. In amp07 there is a patch of land with no texture in the room next to the lava falls that lead to the fire rail.

There is also in amp11 if you go to the crystal room near the double ladder there is animated crystals on the walls next to the ladder but the entire room in non animated crystals. Not sure if you did on purpose or just overlooked.

AMP Map Review: As reviewed by Ivory

Today, we see a mappack that was started months ago by DTD, but DTD's interest in the project died down, so he handed it off to BlueBrawl to overlook. With help from some other community members, we finally see a release. Was the wait worth it? How does this mappack fare in the eyes of one of Cutstuff's veteran mappers? Let's find out.

AMP01: This map was originally a duel map for the first cutstuff mapping competition. I'm glad to see that DTD did pick up on some of the feedback. The layout was excellent, but it was hampered by poor weapon choices. Top Spin is no longer here, which is a great plus. However, the map is suffering. Weapons like Star Crash and Super Arm are easily accessible, sitting out in the open. Seeing how narrow the level is, Super Arm and Star Crash will end up being over dominate. On the other hand, the weapon that is the most out of the way is Search Snake. Which lacks much usefulness on this map.

AMP02: One of the biggest things I have to ask is why am I climbing up a ladder, to jump to a bunch of danger boxes to get a big health unit and a W Tank? It's in a dead end. Unless I'm missing something, it's not worth the trouble. Especially when the other W Tanks are so easy to get. Otherwise, a good map. Good size, good distance, easy to navigate.

AMP03: Interesting map. I like the idea of it, but it suffers from one major problem. There is far too much distance. Now, before I go further, I want to make it clear. Size =/= Distance. While I believe Savior coined the term "Ivory Big" to describe big maps, it isn't accurate. You can have large maps and have them play perfectly fine, so long as the distance isn't huge. The distance in this map is the result of the long, long runs. Straight up and down. It makes the map feel far, far larger than it really is.

The Waterpit feels tacked on. It just kinda adds to the size and distance of the level. Not to mention getting out of the water pit from the pool side involves jumping against a specific section of wall, otherwise you can't get out. It's an annoyance when being chased.

AMP04: Simple size, simple level. Also introduces one of DTD's new weapons. I can't say much on the weapon due to not testing it online yet. The map feels like your standard 4 way symmetrical map. I suggest removing the blizzard spikes. Players consider blizzard spikes as a sign of a hazard, which in this level they aren't. Don't mix up what players understand. The pits may be a hindrance, as it's easy to fall back into them.

AMP05: I like the concept of this level. The layout is good and interesting. Top Spin is rather easy to obtain. I don't have much to say on this one.

AMP06: Ballade Cracker, Rolling Cutter, and Top Spin are all easily accessible? All 3 are powerful weapons, they shouldn't be that simple to get. Combined with the size and narrowness of the rooms, it allows all 3 to be powerful without too much work from the user's end.
The layout is easy to transverse, and being stuck on the bottom floor doesn't look like a death sentence, which can be a problem for a lot of maps like this.

AMP07: Ah, AMP07. Easily my most disliked map of the pack. Now why is this?
It's massive, I compared it to the size of my biggest I-Pack map. While mine was slightly bigger, this map had far more distance in it. There were more large open areas, more places to run, and the weapon layout is horrid. Powerful weapons like Centaur Flash, G-Hold, Mirror Buster, Ballade Cracker, Etc. sit out in the open, easy for anyone to grab. The proximity of the weapons is also a problem. Having one or two close is fine, but having Mirror Buster, Leaf Shield and G Hold all in a row is not. It feels as if you tried to have every single weapon in a level. Super Adapter will laugh at everyone as it allows anyone to get away - and get lost - in this massive maze of a level.

Ultimately the problem comes down to distance, and weapons being laid out with what feels like not much thought.

AMP08: Another map that loses points to distance.  It takes far, far too long to transverse from one side to another. The fact that it's pretty much one solid run forward is the problem. There are the teleporters, but they only help so much with the overall run.

Also, why is Crystal Eye under the crusher? The map is far too open for it to be of any major use. The Oil Pit is rather pointless, the only things on it are a few small pickups and flame blast. It's easy to go around it, I can't imagine too many people falling into it.

On the plus side, a lot of the more powerful weapons like Super Arm and Rolling Cutter do take some effort to get.

AMP09: Ah, I remember this map. Anyways, another map that suffers from "incredibly long run times", or distance. The middle outside section suffers from this. It takes far, far too long to run across it. Leaf Shield on this map is going to be a pain, since Metal Blade is the only weapon capable of transverse the massive distance fast. Yet it's easily dodgeable at that distance.

AMP10: I recall this map as well. Hasn't changed too too much since I last saw it. I like the layout and certainly think it's one of the stronger maps in the pack. Good weapon layout, good layout, good aesthetics, good job.

AMP11: This map is also another good one. It's size is a good point, there are no problems with distance. Getting around is easy, the weapons are laid out very well. Good work.

AMP12: I won't comment on it too much, since it's layout is supposed to be DTD's avatar. Finally, I see a Ballade Cracker somewhere that makes sense. I have to climb up all the way to get it... or use Rush Jet. Sakugarne allows for a nice fast climb, or to drop down on unsuspecting players. Top Spin is very easy to get, and I foresee players guarding the high grounds with it. Seeing as Rush Jet is the only option for getting up, I think it should be replaced with Slash Claw. Overall, the fact it's DTD's avatar makes the stage neat, so I'll overlook the way the stage is laid out.

So with that, I close off my review. Good job, I enjoyed most of the maps, a considerable amount of work has gone into detail. The main problems I found are in level distance and weapon layouts. I hope my review will be of use to you and DTD in improving this great mappack.

So, do I gain your undying respect now?

Oh well. Just pointing that out.

Ok got a few more things I just found. On amp07 you can use the rush jet in the room with the slash claw and go through the upper wall.

(click to show/hide)

In amp05 I'm not sure if its just the way the waterfall is made but at a certain distance there it disappears on me. Not sure if it happens to anyone else though.

(click to show/hide)

And last on amp03 on the window ledges in the room with the air shooter and the plant shield you can walk on the ledges and see very little grass and in this picture there is blue spot as well. The blue spot is right where I'm shooting.

Ugh I really hate to say this but I downloaded this and now I've deleted it. The reason? AMP03. Sure, the map looked alright (although it had a frustratingly hidden trap (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrialAndErrorGameplay) beneath Hard Knuckle), and it had a minor gimmick simular to MM2BUBX, but then I bothered to look at the minimap (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GettingCrapPastTheRadar).

UGH. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BrainBleach)

I know some NES games sometimes had things like this (Like Master-D saying "You damn fool." in Bionic Commando and then watching his head explode) but this is going too far. This is just so out of place in a Mega Man mod and not the place for it.

Rest assured, DTD and I will be more careful about the hidden messages we put in our maps. Also, the Hard Knuckle spot might get fixed too. Idk though, I kinda like forcing the player to get in and get out asap. Thank you for your feedback.

Okay about AMP03

I like the H. Knuckle trap as well. I just like crushers, Doom features in a Doom Engine Game, Brilliant.  The fact that map is shaped similar to a penis, doesn't bother me. Not A Penis LOL. Not sure if that is still in Amp03 but it was in the beta version. Follow mode has its uses.
Now, if the penis thing gets to you, then I don't know how you would feel about Flaming Nightlife...

Nowhere near upsetting as UAC: Military Nightmare. Not explaining that one.So getting warned for mentioning that.

Overall I like AMP just some texture glitches that are hopefully fixed by now, no complaints really. I also love the "Doom features" like the lifts and crushers. Ladders, get old after awhile. Well I don't care for the music but that is just minor. Changemus and Idmus 01 negates that. Shitty review I know, sorry about that.

Title: this is kinda late BUT SO IS THE NEW VERSION
Post by: Tesseractal on November 16, 2011, 05:03:30 AM
I haven't mentioned some of this stuff to you since you don't have a chat for it anything. (Also, you're like never on.) Since you're worried about this sucking or something, I can guess I can share some thoughts.

AMP04: Now that DTD has added his cheap visual gimmicks, it's time for you turn this epileptic baby into a map!

...Sardonicism aside, this map loses its novelty with flame rail gone. (Don't re-add it, you must remain submissive to Classes Mods!) What I mentioned the first time is effectively the same: Make the inside area interesting. You don't even have to make it asymmetrical, it's just that the map is kind of boring. Why don't you throw in some magical flashing 3D floors in characteristic DTD fashion?

amp05: You've got your nifty animations going, great! One of my old rules of thumb is "Don't put a speed boosting weapon and Top Spin in the same map." If you, you get a map like Turbo Man. (if you weren't aware, Turbo Man sucks. Don't make maps like turbo Man.) If you replace Charge Kick, you might get room for an additional weapon or two because I feel this map is missing SOMETHING. I dunno... Flame Blast? Weapons that go down stairs easily? (Snakes, Screws, waves, etc.?)

amp06: I like this map a lot.
> Ballade, Proto, in plain sight
> Pharaoh and Metal blades in harder to reach areas

Yeah, this is kind of backwards. "Ballade crackas aren't OP!!11" etc. aside, Ballade and Proto are way stronger than pharaoh and Metal. There's two Proto Spawns, which seems kind of like a mistake. Idea: Move Bass Buster spawn to where the "lower" Proto Buster spawn is; only keep the second Proto spawn. Move Ballade up to the REALLY high Pharaoh spawn (that's on fire man textures and not dive), and only keep the second Pharaoh spawn. I don't REALLY like the Treble and E-tank spots in this map... they seem a little tacked on (hell, I didn't notice the e-tank until just now! Then again, it's better than where it was in the beta lol.) But mainly I'd say you can nix the item-1. Rush Coil does the job just fine, and has more uses that DON'T involve trapping people and murdering them with crash bombs or treble. Hell, Item-1 + Treble is just evil.

amp07: Well, the weapon layout is a joke. Lots of things that don't belong here, but it's easier for you just to start from scratch rather than me telling you "don't add this". More importantly, there's a cave section between Hard Knuckle and Flash Stopper that has no items, and servers no function at all. (except pretty animated torches) Raise it up a bit, but if you can't find something interesting to put in this area just delete it entirely. It won't be missed.

amp08: New music because you promised me and Hackjack. >.>

For weapon placement, probably the best thing you can do here is remove flying falcon punch!! Hard Knuckle. There's two gimmicks in the layout I don't really like: the "pillars" surrounding the oil area; and the "cake" that the Super Arm is on top of. Both of these aren't really integrated that well into the rest of the map... There's something you can do about these areas.

amp09: You've been asking yourself "Why is this map so ugly" for a while, and part of the answer is "Cloud Man textures". The other is "you mixed sun and rain textures". I don't consider texture reworking a huge issue. Ask your conscience about it. (By that I mean zhade guy.)

amp10: This is the worst map of the bunch. Not a fact, just a precise judgment. The problem with this map (as well as Myroc's version and Oil Man PU) is that everything is just uncomfortably small. Like you have just enough room to walk across the path in a straight line; when you're walking around it feels like you're always prone to falling off. You could be lazy and just add fences, but I'd really like to see most of the areas in this map expanded so it's not so "tip toe". Most of this map you have barely enough width to fit one hitbox on, let alone two. It's wretchedly cramped. The amount of gyro fans and "island platforms" that are uncomfortably small or unleveled just adds to the amount of suicides present on this stage.

amp11: The deathpit in this stage looks like a portal. More importantly, it's a bit out of place given as there are no others, and it's fenced off.... why? The ceilings in some areas of this map are also kind of obnoxious. The ladder going up to atomic fire is frustrating; putting it next to the wall like that makes it hard to get a good grip on it. Plus it looks more natural being in the center. The teleporter next to the e-tank makes MUCH more sense being one-way (instead of two way). Because if it isn't you can just item-1 to get in from the plant barrier side.

amp12: Why isn't the sakugarne symmetrical? And why isn't Rushjet? Do that, and now BOTH players get the LOL BONUS of using Sakujet! All other weapons (save air shooter) are mostly irrelevant. You have no reason not to use sakujet.
amp13: Skipped because unlucky
AMP14: The blue fence here really bothers me. Like, a lot. It makes the upper area really campable. The lava pits are also insanely weird (and I don't know why you fenced them, since it's impossible to use the fence to get up) as it's... weird getting down from above while dodging the lava pits.

AMP15: I find this map being in the pack to be an insult to mappers I actually like. I dunno, it's pretty basic and lacking in weapon diversity. I don't really feel like talking about this because I'd rather see it axed.

AMP16: Nope. No one ever plays on this map. Can't say much about it. >.>

Post by: Ivory on November 16, 2011, 05:28:51 AM
About AMP16, I haven't played it much, but looking at the map, I can already see where the main faults are.

The map is absolutely tedious. Teleporters and staircases everywhere. You have to jump jump jump far too much and often. All the small little inclines also make Water Wave next to useless on it.

But I did find myself laughing hysterically from the song. The only reason I considered the music was because of a canned food drive at my high school, where they play the song IN ITS ENTIRITY after each class. They say it will inspire kids to drop cans and make the music stop. I say it's a brilliant trolling attempt by my school.

Here's the list of maps with faulty linedefs for block monsters. I won't list any map that doesn't have a problem.

AMP02 Outside area with Air Shooter.
AMP07 Lava area an-Every pit, lava, spike area, etc.
AMP10 The gyro fan area that's not next to the E Tank.
AMP11 That small pit.
AMP13 Pretty much all of the outside area.

Not that much to fix, but it's worth a fix!  ;)

Huge ass bump, but I definitely must ask: Is AMP01 getting expanded in some manner? The way it is now, it's really cramped. I mean, way more cramped that Gemini Man's map. Also, detailing the maps is great and all, but do you REALLY need to raise some edges? It's gets annoying when you have Bubble Lead/Water Wave, etc., and the shots stop there because of the detail. Really now? I never thought visuals would ever get in the way until I played this.

Those are my only gripes, though. The map pack is fun to play in general, and I really liked the Indiada Jodes map. Actraiser, fuck yeah!

Also, whoever made Ballade's map is a genius. Needs more Enker and Punk, too. I would, but my maps are god-awful.

Title: AMP Map Pack. Version Dos.
Post by: Mendez on March 28, 2012, 03:31:29 AM
Damnit, I wanted to be the one to make the necrobump.
LET'S GET THIS NECRO-UPDATE STARTED OFF RIGHT.
(click to show/hide)
AMP-MP 2.0 is in the works. Not much has been made, let alone tested, but what I can guarantee is that 99% of the gripes people had regarding this map pack will be looked over. The texture soup, the music, the gimmicks, and the horrible fact that some of these maps were so half-assed it wasn't even funny. The dick joke was kinda funny though, so nyeh.
No map will go untouched. No map will go unimproved. This is a promise I can make to you all, as my crack-addicted team of reviewers and comrades will make sure that everything is just right for the players. Of course, I will still have full creative control over what goes into these maps, including the music, so I won't exactly produce a map pack made purely out of spoon-fed suggestions. This is meant to be the version of AMP that I can take full pride in. Thanks to all your feedback, I have a clear idea over what the hell will get chopped and what won't.
First order of business: The following list of maps have been torn down and rebuilt from the ground up;
AMP02*
AMP05
AMP07
AMP08
AMP11*
AMP13
AMP15(?)
*The maps retain the same layout, but have been given a fresh new look that doesn't force mainstream fascist people to declare "texture soup".
Four new maps are planned for this penultimate** installment to the map pack, and E.T.A. can be anywhere from next week to July 25, 2012. As always, updates will be delivered over the new maps, but no early beta like last time. It's not like people played the beta last time, amirite?
**Penultimate, because god knows it'll have small bugs ):

Oh yeah, I downloaded this wad from somewhere. I like the maps that change the weather when you get close to the frag limit.

As long as this is up here and all fresh, I must ask. When can we expect more?

From DTD? Yeah, don't expect any more work from him. Maxine and I are getting some tiny chunks done though.

All maps (except Cloud Brother and Precipitation Sibling) - added a shiny, new music script.

I was curious so I went to check out why you omitted AMP09 and AMP13 and uhh

the logic of this script is crazy easy to implement into the current boss music script, so you could try the following instead, in addition to removing the setmusic scripts in those maps:
(click to show/hide)

The primary issue of disjointing scripts like this is that the scripts currently in these maps are only compatible with Deathmatch and take nothing into account for other modes.

As an aside, since the music messages are logged to the console now, it's recommended to only have them on OPEN.

I finally got around to updating this map pack for V6. Nothing drastic, just several quality-of-life changes to keep the maps playable. Also, I added a preview map from AMP2.
