Remember those 8-bit-ish Mario sprites?

Now there's Bowser, a Pianta, Sonic, and Pac-Man!

Not everything has to be blacklined...

Maybe I'm too used to the simpler style of Mario spriting, or maybe too used to not seeing that many black on MM-styled NES spriting.

But not everything IS blacklined. If it were, the Pianta's skirt...thing would look a lot more awkward.

That Koopa Troopa is giving me major Paper Mario vibes.

Could you do Mega Man X sprites in 8-bit?Not the Xtreme-style sprites, but in the style of the keychain sprite.

Someone on Skype talked to me as if I was the one in my avatar, so I made this edit of my character

(Plus helmetless Centy)
I'll probably make it a skin, even if it's just to see if making class skins for Centaur Man would work the same as other classes.

I don't think Centaurman can have skins because of the TNT1A0/PLAYA0 at the beginning of his class file.
I'm not entirely sure on that one, but I think it's the case.

Hmm, you may be right.
(And actually, the second bit is CENT, which that kind of name is present in every class, so I suppose it doesn't really matter)

Oddly, it seems that all the classes that have the TNT1A0 thing at the start are seemingly random ones.
The ones that do are Hard Man (he's got two of those!), Toad Man, Pharaoh Man, Dive Man, Dust Man, Stone Man, Charge Man, Wave Man, all four Dark Men, everybody from 6 except Knight Man, everybody from 7 except Freeze Man and Burst Man, everybody from 8 except Grenade Man Search Man and Duo, and Enker.

So those are all the ones that seem to be unable to use skins.

(I wonder what the TNT1A0 thing even does? Most of those Robot Masters chosen seem to be large, although Pharaoh, Wave, and a few others seem to contradict that)

The TNT1A0 is because of the sizing of some of the sprites. If you've ever seen a "The size of sprite [blargh] exceeds the limits!," it's because of that.

Specifically, the ratio between the height and width of the sprite isn't very fantastic, so it doesn't want to work. To fix that, you simply add a smaller sprite as its first sprite. A lot of things use Megaman's skin for that, Classes just uses TNT1, which is invisible.

Another way to fix that is to make the sprites themselves have more empty space so the ratio between their height and width is changed, and you can properly apply skins to them.
I believe GVHBDM was trying to do something like that to Creeper.

Ah, okay

So all I'd have to do is make the custom skin have extra empty space? Or the original skin have empty space?

And I hope that said method would NOT cause sprite resizing or anything, right?

You'd need to change the code in the game to replace TNT1A0/PLAYA0 with your increased size skins, but yes, you'd be able to get it working with enough fiddling.
Compatibility is another issue altogether, though.

« Reply #269 on: August 20, 2014, 03:11:07 PM »
Oh.

So, in other words, it'd be very hard.

ah well

Well, since I was editing Centy already, may as well make things that people might actually USE

JUMPING SPRITES!
A SLIGHTLY MODIFIED DAMAGE SPRITE!
HELMETLESS!
AND A WALKING-WHILE-SHOOTING SPRITE THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO EXIST IN MM6???

Also, if you noticed, rather than using Rozark's hair for Centy, I made my own based on my current avatar (and all Centy drawings made by that person).
